Thank you to everyone who sold and bought tickets for this fundraiser! The winners are: 1st Prize (00): Dan Mhley 2nd Prize ($200): Mike B. 3rd Prize (0): Andrea Chabon Traditional Easter Basket Winner: Maria Spotts A Reminder All are reminded that it is our tradition to stand in prayer during the Easter season. There are two postures for prayer during the period from Easter to Pentecost - standing or sitting. We all kneel again in prayer fifty days from the Resurrection of Our Lord to the special Pentecost Kneeling Prayers. This tradition gives a visible sign of our belief that God revealed something wonderful by the Resurrection of Christ, namely that the human life is eternal and immortal because it is sharing in the life of God Himself. We stand during this period to proclaim our awareness that we are not slaves but children of the heavenly Father we are the sons and daughters of the Most High. Unlike most slaves, who in the lands of the East, had to kneel when they were in the presence of their master, we stand in the presence of our Father. We are, because of His gift of Life, His heirs. We stand in recognition of this great honor. You are also reminded that.we joyously sing the Easter Tropar (Christ is Risen from the dead) for forty days until Ascension Thursday. This Tropar should be sung with enthusiasm (it is not a funeral dirge). It should be sung with a lively and spirited pace! Deanery Delights Newsletter The Deanery Delights Newsletter is back! The monthly newsletter will be available in the vestibule of both parishes. Pick up a copy to see what is going on in our deanery. If you would like to receive a copy of Deanery Delights electronically, please email Maria Spotts at mariaspotts@yahoo.com Designer Purse Bingo Sunday, April 15 th at St. Nicholas Hall, Primrose. Doors open at 11 AM, bingo starts at 1 PM. $25 for 20 games. 16 regular games and 4 specials. Homemade food, refreshments and fun! Presale ticket holders will be entered into a special drawing. Contact the school at 570-544-2800, rectory at 570-544-4581 or Sherri at 570-527-0899. Proceeds benefit St. Nicholas School, Minersville. Easter Greeting The traditional greeting during Easter is: Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen! Christos Voskres! Voyeestinu Voskres! Tweets from His Holiness Pope Francis May Christ who conquered the darkness of sin and death, grant us peace in our days.

Let all nations rejoice. Shine in splendor, O new Jerusalem; for the glory of the Lord is risen upon you, O Sion. Sing with joy and rejoice. And you, pure Mother of God, rejoice in the resurrection of your Son. Epistle: Acts 5:12-20 Gospel: Jn 20:19-31 Sunday of Saint Thomas The Eastern Church observes the Sunday of Thomas one week following the celebration of the Sunday of Holy Pascha. The day commemorates the appearance of Christ to His disciples on the evening of the Sunday following Passover. It also commemorates the appearance of the Lord to His disciples eight days later when Thomas was present and proclaimed My Lord and my God upon seeing the hands and side of Christ. Saint Thomas the Apostle is commemorated by the Church on October 6. The events commemorated on the Sunday of Thomas are recorded in the Gospel of Saint John 20:19-29. Following the crucifixion and burial of Christ, the disciples were gathered in a room with the doors closed and locked for fear of the Jews. On the evening of the Sunday after Passover, Jesus entered the room and stood in their midst, greeting them with the words, Peace be with you. (v. 19) He showed the disciples his hands, feet, and side. (v. 20) Thomas was not present with the disciples when Jesus appeared, and he did not accept the testimony of the other disciples concerning Christ s Resurrection. He stated, Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe. (vv. 24-25) Eight days later, the disciples were gathered together again with Thomas present and the Lord appeared in the same manner. Standing in their midst he said, Peace be with you. He then spoke directly to Thomas and said, Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe. (vv. 26-27) Thomas answered, My Lord and my God! Jesus replied by saying, Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.
