You may recall that I talked about this at length a few Sundays ago. The plan is to have it completed this week, although a few details may go over to the following week. It is an exciting project. As a result of this work, daily Mass will be held in the parish hall for the week (Tuesday-Friday) at 8:15 as usual. There will be no Eucharistic Adoration on Tuesday of this week. In fact, the chapel will be closed for the entire week. Reconciliation will be held as regularly scheduled on Tuesday from 6:00 7:00 in the church. I want to thank everyone for the very positive feedback I have received concerning this project. Your support is appreciated. Just a couple other reminders. If you or anyone in your family is planning to get married at St. Bernard s in 2017, it is not too early to contact us to secure a date. The more advance planning you can do will help make the entire marriage preparation process go a lot smoother. Contact either me or Kevin Laufenberg in the parish office about scheduling a date. We are in need of more ushers at our Sunday Masses. If you are interested or have questions, contact Joy Bauman in the parish office. Lastly, save the date! Our annual parish picnic will be Sunday, September 25. More details to follow in the weeks ahead. Have a blessed week. Fr. Brian HOW ABOUT YOU? One great way to be involved in the parish is to serve as an usher at Mass. Teams serve once every 4 weeks. Our 11:00 Mass on Sunday is where our biggest need is. There is also a team at 9:00 that is short a few people. There are no special requirements - just a willingness to serve! Men, women, young, not-so-young, couples, families - all are welcome!! If you are interested, please contact Joy at the parish office at 831-6531 or joy@stbmidd.org. Lawyers don't always fare so well in popular culture. Even the television shows that exalt some aspects of the legal profession (like Law & Order or The Good Wife) also have some lawyers that are less than noble in both their personal and professional lives. Even in Shakespeare's time this ambivalence toward lawyers was evident in Henry VI, Part 2 when Dick the butcher, one of the rebels, proposes to kill all the lawyers since by their arguments they can have a man condemned as easily as freed. Still, every day people turn to lawyers seeking their help with a host of problems. The love-hate relationship continues. In the Gospel this weekend, the scholar of the law is looking for the way to life. His question is sincere. He is trying to understand what is required of him. He can quote the law, indeed, probably even lives by it. But the question of who is a neighbor is one of legal precision. The interpretation of the Mosaic law based the fact of one being a neighbor on a covenantal relationship. Those who worshipped the one God were considered as one's neighbor. In the time of Jesus this narrow interpretation was being reconsidered. Some religious scholars suggested that a more universal application was needed, while others held to the tradition that Samaritans, foreigners, and those outside the law were not neighbors under the law. Jesus makes his position clear, although by coming at it from the other direction. It is the Samaritan who shows himself to be a neighbor. Maybe that is where the argument lies for us today. We cannot define with legal precision who is going to be a neighbor to us. All we can do is decide to be neighborly toward others, that is, to show them the very love with which we love ourselves. And then rely on God's mercy that someone will be there for us as a neighbor in our time of need.

FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE & MACARONI & CHEESE DRIVE JULY 23 & 24, JULY 30 & 31 The Human Needs Commission will be collecting school supplies and boxes of macaroni and cheese to help support families in our sister parish, St. Francis of Assisi in Milwaukee. These donations relieve much of the financial burden of providing materials to get the children off to a great start for the new school year. Supplies needed include notebooks, 3 ring binders, two pocket folders, pens, pencils, glue, crayons, colored markers, rulers, erasers and pencil boxes. One of the greatest needs is for backpacks. The St. Francis of Assisi Families are very appreciative of our generosity. ROSARY REPAIR Get your rosary repaired Sunday, July 24 after the 9:00 Mass at the back entrance of church. Make sure you have all the pieces to your Rosary and that it is fixable. If in doubt, bring it. We will look at it and fix it on the spot for FREE. SUMMER WALKING PROGRAM St. Bernard s invites you to join our 2016 Summer Walking Program. Every Tuesday and Thursday, concluding August 11, we are offering an evening walking group. Kay Doll, Claudia Miska and Mary Burmeister are leading the group that meets at 6:30 PM at Orchid Heights Park and walks in the conservancy for about an hour. Please call the Parish Office to register at 831-6531 if you are interested. ST. BERNARD S VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Kids going into grades PreK-5 are invited to join us the mornings of August 1-5 for a week of fun. Learn how Jesus is the Light of the World and how he gives us hope, courage, direction, power, and love! We ll be diving into our faith through fun activities and Bible stories. High school and adult volunteers are needed to make it a success. Register for VBS live on our Parish website! Contact Jenna Ripp, jenna@stbmidd.org or call, 831-6531 x327 with any questions. JULY 10, 2016 WILD GOOSE PROGRAM The exciting Wild Goose Program which is being offered this summer at St. Bernard Parish invites you into a more profound life-giving relationship with the Holy Spirit. As you develop a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit, your faith will be invigorated, and you will come to experience a renewed relationship with God. John 4:10) a gift from God, and in turn communicates different spiritual gifts to those who welcome him. -Pope Francis OPPORTUNITY TO HELP THE NUNS WHO MAKE OUR ALTAR BREAD Dear Friends in the Faith: We need your help as we seek to re-incorporate in our monastic life small-scale animal husbandry with the aims of long-term sustainability and land-regenerative living.
