Pre-Service Devotion: 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NKJV) Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. The Order of Worship Bells - - - Opening Prayer Hymn 360 - Oh, for a Thousand Tongues to Sing Pastor: We begin our service in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. Confession and Absolution Pastor: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart, and confess our sins unto God, our Father, imploring Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Our help is in the name of the Lord! People: Who made heaven and earth. Pastor: I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord. People: And Thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Pastor: Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer, we poor sinners confess unto Thee that we are by nature sinful and unclean and that we have sinned against Thee by thought, word, and deed. Therefore we flee for refuge to Thine infinite mercy, seeking and imploring Thy grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. All: O most merciful God, who hast given Thine only-begotten Son to die for us, have mercy upon us and for His sake grant us remission of all our sins; and by Thy Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of Thee and of Thy will, and true obedience to Thy Word, to the end that, by Thy grace, we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen. 3 Pastor: The Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, has had mercy upon us and has given His only Son to die for us and for His sake forgives us all our sins. To them that believe on His name He gives power to become the sons of God and has promised them His Holy Spirit. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. Grant this, Lord, unto us all. People: Amen. Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And with thy spirit. Pastor: Prayer for the Day People: Amen. 1st Scripture Reading Proverbs 3:1-7 1 My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; 2 For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you. 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, 4 And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. Pastor: Alleluia, alleluia! The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. (Psalm 18:30) Alleluia! People: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! 2nd Scripture Reading Luke 22:24-30 People: Glory be to Thee, O Lord! 24 Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest. 25 And He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called benefactors. 26 But not so 4
among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves. 27 For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves. 28 But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials. 29 And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, 30 that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel." Pastor: Here ends our 2nd Scripture reading. People: Praise be to Thee, O Christ! The Apostles Creed -- Hymnal, pg. 12 Hymn 433 - Jesus, My Truth, My Way The Sermon 2 Corinthians 4:5-7 5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus' sake. 6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. Theme: We preach Christ Jesus the Lord! I. In Earthen Vessels II. We do not preach ourselves We are servants (of Christ and one another) We have this treasure Conversion - a miracle worked by God The power is from God 5 The Offertory Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence, And take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation, And uphold me with Thy free spirit. Amen.
