Pastor s Pen We Are the Hands of Christ Stewardship is a Way of Life. When we respond to God s generosity in our lives with gratitude by using and sharing our gifts, we are helping to build God s kingdom we are being the hands of Christ. Thank you for responding to God s generosity in your life and sharing in the mission of Jesus by sharing your gifts with our parish and with other charities and organizations this year. Next week, we will take up the Collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development which includes Home Missions (CCHD). CCHD was founded 40 years ago by the bishops of the United States when they realized that the lives of those in need would not improve until the systems and policies that keep people in poverty were changed. For 40 years, CCHD has funded community groups that seek justice and create lasting change. Fight poverty in America. Defend human dignity. Give to the CCHD Collection. -3-

This servant was scared. He didn t want to take any risks and just wanted to play everything safe. As he confesses to his master, Out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. And the master was not pleased. The other servants who invested the money he gave them were richly rewarded for their efforts to produce more. But this servant was punished for letting his fear rule the day. What factors are keeping us from making a return on God s investment in us? He has given us all life, and each of us also has a special collection of talents to make use of. We have certain gifts, skills, experiences, resources, and abilities that (though we may not often think about it) come from God. He calls us to make the most of these things, not just to take them for granted or bury them in the ground, so to speak. Our gifts are meant not just for our own enjoyment, but to help others, to spread truth and goodness and beauty to the world around us. Sometimes, however, we fail to really capitalize on our potential. Laziness, distraction, or self-pity can get in the way if we are unwilling to put in the hard work to improve our natural gifts, if we allow ourselves to zone out with entertainment or frivolous pastimes instead of making good use of the time entrusted to us, or if we wallow in negativity by focusing on what we don t have instead of embracing what we do. Each moment is a gift from God. May we seize every opportunity to multiply the investment God has made in us so that we may be worthy to hear God tell us, Well done, my good and faithful servant. -6-

Our next session will run from February 4 - March 18, 2018. Married Couples Wanted! All engaged couples getting married at St. Anthony s are required to participate in a marriage preparation program. We are looking for married couples to host newly engaged couples in their home. We are not looking for couples with perfect marriages. We are looking for couples who want to share their experiences, hopes, dreams and struggles with the couples who are about to embark on the same journey. Our Pre-Cana course is an In-Home program hosted by married couples in our parish. We meet in small groups so that everyone can share easily and speak freely and openly about topics such as Communication, Conscience Formation, Spirituality & Sexuality. We need married couples who might be interested in answering the call to help out with this very rewarding ministry. The commitment is only a few weeks a year. We run two sessions each year, one in the winter and one in the fall. Sessions run for six weeks. Our opening and closing meetings are held at St. Anthony s and are led by the coordinating couple. The presenting couples meet with the engaged couples in their home four times during the session. Don t worry about content, books and outlines will be provided. Couples interested are welcome to shadow our upcoming session. If you d like more information about our Pre-Cana ministry, please contact Susan and John Vizzi at susanvizzi@aol.com. We d be happy to answer any questions you have. St. Anthony s Dance Class JOIN US AT OUR ADULT GROUP LATIN AND BALLROOM DANCE CLASS EVERY WEDNESDAY IN THE LOWER CHURCH HERE AT ST. Children and Family Mass Ministry Worshiping with Children On November 5 th at the9am Sunday Mass, the community family of St. Anthony of Padua celebrated the birthdays of children born in November. We gave them a birthday balloon with the inscription Jesus wishes you a Happy Birthday If your child did not receive a gift, see a priest and ask for a birthday blessing and a gift after the Mass. In this Sunday s scripture, Jesus tells a story about a wedding, and the bridesmaids who had lamps, but no oil for them. They were called foolish. because the lamps will not burn without oil, like flashlights without electricity. At Mass little Jane had listened to a sermon on "Let Your Light Shine." She didn't understand what the text meant until her mother explained, "It means being good, obedient, and cheerful." In the afternoon there was trouble in the nursery, and Jane excused herself for being naughty by saying, "I've blowed myself out." -21-
