The Network News April 2017 VISION NIGHT Sunday, April 30, 2017, 6 PM Crossroads Community Church 1420 Lakeside Drive, Yorktown Every Spring, we gather for one night to share our vision and to highlight some of the many ministry and mission projects going on in our churches. This is a time of worship, inspiration, testimony, and vision casting. It is also a fun time of exploring what God is doing in our churches through the Mission Fair. (It is not too late to reserve a table to showcase some ministry or mission project from you church.) As usual, we will have light refreshments during the Mission Fair. Out theme for this year is Cross Culture. There is a double meaning to these words. First, as Christians, we are called to adopt the culture of the cross. As Paul says, to put off your old self and be made new in the attitude of your minds (Ephesians 4.22-23). The other meaning is that we must cross man-made cultural barriers as we come together as one body. Come celebrate that with us. Whether you are new to the PBA, or you have been part of us your whole life, there is always something new to discover on Vision Night. This is an event for the WHOLE CHURCH. It is a great opportunity to connect with people from other churches, and to gain ideas and insights from them. IMPORTANT NOTICE! During our Vision Night worship service, we will be voting on two churches to become full members of the association, and another to enter Watchcare. Search Point Bible Fellowship with Pastor Larry Brayboy, is a church plant preparing for their public launch. They have completed a year of Watchcare. Antioch Baptist Church, with Pastor William Greene, has also completed a year of Watchcare. Shalom Baptist Church, with Pastor Derrick Perkins has applied to enter into Watchcare. Since these requests require a vote, we will briefly go into a Business Session. Only those who have been named as Messengers from their church for the year can vote. If you are not sure of your church s messengers eligibility contact Linda at pba@peninsulabaptist.org.

PASTOR S FELLOWSHIP BREAKFAST Thursday, April 6, 8:30 AM We tried something different in January a Pastor s Breakfast. Everyone who attended agreed they wanted to do it again. So, here we are. Linda will whip up a delicious breakfast, and we will meet for a time of fellowship, sharing information, and networking. This meeting is open to senior pastors, associate pastors, those seeking a pastorate, and retired pastors. To sweeten the pot we will have some free resources to give away to those who attend. Please R.S.V.P. to Linda at pba@peninsulabaptist.org, or call 757-596-4587. TIMES OF REFRESHING FOR MINISTRY LEADERS April 29 th, 9:30 AM to 1 PM Harbor Pointe Community Church All clergy and their spouses are invited to a special forum which will provide a day of spiritual renewal along with an exploration of natural remedies used to reduce burnout an stress. The event will be coordinated by Delores Hines-Kaalund. You may register by contacting her at 757-232-2007, or dhineskaalund@gmail.com. The deadline for registration is April 15 th. SUMMER LEADERSHIP TEAM 2017 We are continuing the process of interviewing and hiring of our Summer Leadership Team, with the goal of the team being five young adults ages ranging from 18 to 25. The Summer Leadership Team for the PBA is a group of young adults that are committed to ministering to our churches and growing in their personal relationship with Christ. The team helps facilitate Sports Camp as a large portion of their time, offering assistance to the church's ministry. The other part of the Summer Leadership Team is committing to weekly sessions, as a team, to receive and participate in leadership and discipleship development. This is time to gain knowledge and perspective on themselves as individuals as well as how to connect and apply discipleship to all aspects of life. Team members are expected to be prepared for other miscellaneous jobs, such as but not limited to, participating in the Love Local ministry and serving our churches as the opportunity arises. Please contact Melanie (call 596-4587 or e-mail melanie@peninsulabaptist.org) and Anna Jones (summerintern@peninsulabaptist.org) for more information about this opportunity, to receive the job description and application, and/or to recommend someone to be a part of this team. We are trying to get applications in by April 20th. VOLUNTEER PIANIST NEEDED Hilton Baptist Church is looking for a volunteer pianist that would be available on Monday afternoons to go with our "Happy Hearts Singing Group" to area nursing homes to sing for the residents. This is a wonderful ministry and the Nursing Homes look so forward to having us sing. SPOTLIGHT ON CHURCHES! The monthly Spotlight on Churches offers the opportunity for our PBA Family to get an update look at churches in the Network, and the wonderful ministries they are involved in that enhance relational ministry in the community. Each month we will be spotlighting a church in the PBA Network of churches. PROVIDENCE BAPTIST CHURCH Providence Baptist Church located in Hayes, Virginia has a rich past and is positioning itself to make a greater impact in their community and the world in the future. Founded in 1850, Providence has faithfully sought to know Christ and to make him known for 167 years. After several years of being without a pastor, Providence recently elected Chris McMillan to serve as their new pastor and to lead them into the future. Chris McMillan is a North Carolina native who spent the last 14 years pastoring a dynamic multicultural church in the Washington D.C./Baltimore Metro area. Chris is a graduate of Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and has over 20 years of pastoral experience. He has been married to his wife Allison for over 23 years. Chris and Allison have one daughter named Carissa who is twelve and recently suffered the death of their twenty-year old son Nathan. Chris comes to Providence with great excitement and anticipation about leading them into the future. He notes, Providence is a great church with such a rich legacy. When the search team contacted me and shared their hearts, I immediately connected with their passion to reach their community and the world. The vision for Providence is to see lives changed by the gospel. Providence is accomplishing this through a multifaceted approach to ministry. Recently, Providence completed construction on and opened a new 10,000 square foot fellowship hall and ministry center. The new ministry center has provided many new opportunities to connect to the community. For instance, Providence recently hosted and served the homeless for a week, giving them a place to sleep and providing meals for them. Additionally, Providence partners with and hosts Helping Hands each summer, which blesses the Gloucester area through service projects. Providence is also committed to making disciples of the next generation so children s ministry is a big emphasis. In addition to its Sunday children s ministries, the church runs a Pre-K Weekday Learning Center, and this summer will host its annual VBS. Furthermore, Pastor Chris McMillan is committed to leading Providence in the fulfillment of the Great Commission not only locally but also globally. Having led short-term missions trips and trained indigenous church leaders in countries such as: Russia, China, Spain, India, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Chile, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Myanmar, Pastor Chris is excited to lead the church in seeking to reach unreached people groups within the 10/40 window through church planting and compassion ministries. Pastor Chris desires that Providence be known more for its sending capacity than its seating capacity. Moreover, Pastor Chris is leading Providence into the digital age by revamping the website, rebranding the church s identity, and developing outreach strategies for social media. Pastor Chris notes, God has great things in store for Providence and I am excited to play a small role in God s work among the people here and to partner together with other area churches in order to fulfill the Great Commission and live out the Great Commandment.
