Igniting a movement of new worshiping communities.

SUPPORT NEW DISCIPLES OF JESUS CHRIST

(DATE) 1001 New Worshiping Communities: Forming new disciples of Jesus, transforming our denomination, and impacting our world. Dear (Preferred Name), Dave and Judie Andersen marvel at the enthusiasm they encounter every Sunday in a storefront worship space packed with people in their 20s and 30s. These 70-something grandparents and longtime Presbyterians experience both delight and hope at Northland Village Church, a New Worshiping Community in Los Angeles. It s exciting to see all these young, passionate people becoming active in a Presbyterian church, says Dave. The Andersens believe the church has to change to serve a new generation. That is why they joined the launch team of Northland Village Church. Through Northland Village and other communities birthed through the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) s 1001 New Worshiping Communities initiative, lives are being transformed and spirits are being renewed. I am grateful for the Andersens and others who lend their vision and commitment to this grassroots movement. I also appreciate people like you whose prayers and financial gifts have enabled it to reach into 41 states. While they love Northland Village, Dave and Judie admit their participation in the community is not without generational challenges. Yet their sense of fulfillment far outweighs any adjustments they have had to make. Those in their 20s and 30s live in a different world from ours, Judie says. While it s natural for them to worship in a storefront and organize around the needs of the surrounding community, those things required us to get outside of our box. She is quick to add that seeing this worshiping community thrive has renewed our hope that the church has a future. Reaching young adults is an important dimension of the 1001 initiative, but people of all ages are experiencing Christ s love through New Worshiping Communities. These communities are also attracting recent immigrants and others from various racial and ethnic backgrounds. In fact, these groups comprise more than half of all participants in our New Worshiping (over, please) INSPIRE EQUIP CONNECT 100 Witherspoon ST Louisville, KY 40202 presbyterianmission.org/1001

Communities. They are helping the PC(USA) become a church that more fully reflects the diversity of U.S. society and the inclusive heart of God. As the name suggests, this initiative s goal is to start 1001 New Worshiping Communities. We want to achieve this by 2022 and already 340 have emerged! Such growth could be accomplished only through the work of the Holy Spirit. The Presbyterian Mission Agency s role is to provide resources to identify, train, and coach the leaders of New Worshiping Communities and to provide financial assistance to help these ministries get off the ground. New Worshiping Communities receive funding and oversight from their respective presbyteries as well. I believe that together we can achieve the goal of 1001 Worshiping Communities and perhaps even greatly exceed it but we need your help. Your gift will extend the hope of Christ to people who may never walk through the door of a traditional Presbyterian congregation. At the same time, your generosity will advance expressions of Presbyterianism that speak to our changing world, yet remain true to the gospel and our heritage. The energy, creativity, and new life that New Worshiping Communities add to our church are essential to its future. As Dave Andersen says, What we put into it isn t for our future, but for the future of our children and grandchildren. I believe the world now and in the future needs to hear our church s faithful witness to the gospel. Your support of the 1001 New Worshiping Communities initiative will help Presbyterians share a message that addresses life s most pressing questions and society s most urgent problems. Your gift will make an impact that changes lives now and over time. Won t you make a generous gift today? Faithfully yours, Chip Dr. Charles B. Hardwick Director, Theology, Formation and Evangelism Presbyterian Mission Agency P.S. Your support of the 1001 New Worshiping Communities initiative will help Presbyterians share a message that addresses life s most pressing questions and society s most urgent problems. Please give generously today!
