Remainder of the afternoon at leisure in this city synonymous with art, culture and faith. Barcelona overnight (D) DAY 3: Tuesday 12 June Barcelona to Montserrat We enjoy a morning in Barcelona to experience the cultural canvas that underpinned many of Picasso s artworks and view the unique and colourful architecture of Antonio Gaudi dispersed throughout the city. We commence with a visit to Barcelona Cathedral (La Seu), a celebrated example of Catalan Gothic architecture dating from the 14th century. The elevated site occupied by the cathedral has always been the spiritual centre of Barcelona. We will be awestruck visiting Gaudi s famous La Sagrada Familia Basilica, before a leisurely visit to Guell Park where we can enter Gaudi s house (now a museum) as well as enjoying spectacular views over the city. This afternoon we will arrive into stunning Montserrat. The renowned 11th century sanctuary of Our Lady of Montserrat lies at the top of a 4,000 foot high mountain and is one of Spain s most popular pilgrimage destinations. The shrine is home to a 12th century miraculous statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, lovingly known as the Black Madonna, discovered in the Santa Cova or Holy Cave. Here at Montserrat St Ignatius kept vigil with a coarse sackcloth and a pilgrim staff. Montserrat overnight (BD) DAY 4: Wednesday 13 June Montserrat Mountain Retreat The spirit of Montserrat is a unique blend of the mountain, the sanctuary, and the life of monasticism. Around the sanctuary you will find many different banners and emblems representing various religious, cultural, social, financial and even sporting organisations. Our spectacular day of pilgrimage begins with a visit and Mass in the Basilica, the construction of which began in the 16th century, and a viewing of the beautiful Holy Image of Our Lady of Montserrat, known affectionately as the Black Madonna. We will then board the Santa Cova funicular railway and after a short ride, enjoy a walk down the sacred path passing modernist sculptures of the Mysteries of the Rosary (all worked on by Llimona and Gaudi among others). Almost hanging from the rock s edge at the end of the route is the Chapel where the image of Our Lady of Montserrat was found by young shepherds in the 13th century after seeing a bright light which led them to the grotto. We take time here at the Holy Cave for prayer and reflection before taking the funicular railway back up to the Sanctuary. Before lunch, we will take our place among the privileged to hear the heavenly sounds of the Montserrat Boys Choir (The Escolania), one of the oldest and most renowned in Europe. After lunch we will have a private guided tour of the museums. The remainder of the afternoon will provide the option of time for rest and prayerful reflection. Before dinner, we may take the opportunity to join the Benedictine monks in the Basilica for the beautiful sounds of evening Vespers. Montserrat overnight (BD) DAY 5: Thursday 14 June Montserrat to Lourdes (Via Manresa) After an early breakfast, we farewell Montserrat and travel to the nearby town of Manresa where St Ignatius came on retreat for 11 months between 1522 and 1523. Each day he spent seven hours in prayer in a cave and then helped the sick in the village with the time he had left over. Here too Ignatius began to develop the method for seeking God s will and where he wrote his renowned Spiritual Exercises. We come as pilgrims to this amazing place with St Ignatius and pray in the actual cave where his life and spirituality developed. Later we travel through the scenic foothills of the Pyrenees, crossing into Harvest Journeys
Southern France before continuing on to Lourdes. It was in this small town that Our Lady first appeared to St Bernadette in 1858. Lourdes overnight (BD) DAY 6: Friday 15 June Lourdes This morning we will celebrate a group Mass at the Grotto the site where young Bernadette experienced visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We then visit the little village of Bartres, and the farm where St Bernadette was nursed and later returned in adolescence to help her foster mother. We will visit the Sheepfold and the Parish Church where she spent so many hours in prayer. We will return to Lourdes to enjoy a peaceful afternoon to rest, wander at your own pace or take the time to pray the Stations of the Cross with the life sized copper images which overlook the holy Grotto. Spend some quiet time perhaps reflecting at the Grotto with its chapel built over the place of the apparitions. Optional Blessed Sacrament Procession and evening candlelight procession. Lourdes overnight (BD) DAY 7: Saturday 16 June Lourdes We celebrate Mass this morning before meeting our guide for a walking tour of Lourdes including the Sanctuary area: Upper & Lower Basilicas, and the Baths where hundreds of miraculous cures have taken place. See the Boly Mill where she was born in 1844, the original parish church and the Cachot (prison) where the family lived due to misfortune during the time of the apparitions. Free time this afternoon for a visit and prayers for the sick at the miraculous Baths where the water has continued to flow since 1858. Pilgrims may choose to submerge themselves in the healing waters, or collect the Lourdes water at the taps. During her ninth apparition to Bernadette, Our Lady said Go drink and wash yourself at the spring. Optional afternoon Blessed Sacrament Procession and Blessing of the Sick before a final evening candlelight procession after dinner. Note: Washing at the baths is a personally rewarding experience and is carried out in a dignified manner and with sensitivity to the privacy of each pilgrim. Lourdes overnight (BD) DAY 8: Sunday 17 June Lourdes to Santo Domingo de Silos We set out for our travel day, passing through the foothills of the Pyrenees and crossing the border back into northern Spain. En route we visit Loyola where St Ignatius was born and where he later found his conversion. In Loyola pilgrims will have the opportunity to visit the impressive Sanctuary of St Ignatius, including the Casa Santa (Holy House) 13th century tower house where he was born and spent many of his early years. Visit also the ornate monastery complete with shrine and relics of the saint and a 65m dome, which can be seen from a great distance. See the sparse room where he lived and recovered from his injuries and developed his spiritual life. Finally, we arrive at the quaint village of Santo Domingo de Silos, home to the great Benedictine Abbey famous for its beautiful Romanesque cloister and for spreading the finest tradition of Gregorian chant throughout the world. After dinner we will proceed up to the Abbey for evening prayer. Santo Domingo de Silos overnight (BD) DAY 9: Monday 18 June Santo Domingo de Silos / Segovia / Avila Seven times a day for over 1,500 years a sweet and sublime sound rises like a fragrance from the hills of Castille. Is it the sound of angels singing? One might be mistaken to think so. Enter the Romanesque cloisters of the sacred monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos and you will discover that this heavenly sound emanates from the Benedictine monks who became world famous after their recordings of Gregorian chant hit number one on the European pop charts. This morning we will attend the chanted High Mass at the Abbey before visiting the adjacent Monastery and Museum. We then rejoin our coach and journey south to Segovia, between the Eresma and Clamores Rivers. We will visit the stunning Segovia Cathedral, the last Gothic cathedral to be built in Spain. Marvel too at the best conserved aqueduct of the Imperial Roman Empire. If possible, outside the walls, we will visit the convent where the mortal remains of Saint John of the Cross are buried. View here the famous Alcazar. Departing Segovia, travel west to the historic walled town of Avila. The atmosphere has changed little since the days of St Teresa to whom the city is dedicated. It was here that she entered the Carmelite convent and encountered many mystical experiences during her time. Avila overnight (BD) DAY 10: Tuesday 19 June Avila We begin our day with a visit to the Convent of Saint Teresa built over the saint s birthplace and located just inside the South Gate of the old town. Most of the convent remains in cloister but you can see the very spot where she was born, now a chapel in the Baroque church. We then visit Avila s Cathedral which was started in the 12th century before entering the Monastery of the Incarnation for Mass where St Teresa s cell can be seen as well as other relics of her life. Afternoon at leisure. Avila overnight (BD) DAY 11: Wednesday 20 June Avila to Fatima Departing Avila, we travel by coach to nearby Alba de Tormes, the little village where St Teresa died. Her incorrupt heart and arm are enshrined and displayed here at the Carmelite convent. Here too we enter the convent for Mass, where St John of the Cross lived and who companioned St Teresa in her spiritual walk. We enjoy a lunch stop in Salamanca, known as the Golden City owing to the colour of its historic sandstone buildings. Cross the border into Portugal and continue on to Fatima where in 1917 the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three children as a lady in white. In Fatima, after dinner this evening the Vigil ceremonies will continue with an extraordinary number of pilgrims joining together for the International Rosary followed by a Candlelight Procession. Fatima overnight (BD) DAY 12: Thursday 21 June Fatima This morning we will walk and pray the Stations along the beautiful Way of the Cross (the Sacred Way) culminating in the Chapel of Calvary which overlooks all of Fatima. Continue to Valinhos, the site of Our Lady s appearance after the children s return from prison before we proceed onto the little village of Aljustrel to visit the homes where the children lived. Finally, we enter the original Parish church and see the Baptismal font where the children were baptised. Afternoon at leisure. Fatima overnight (BD) DAY 13: Friday 22 June Fatima This morning we will enjoy a tour of the Square (the largest square in Christendom) including the site of the Apparitions, Rosary Basilica with the Tombs of the visionaries, the Museum, Blessed Sacrament Chapel and other main sites. If this situation occurs, Pilgrims will be advised by a Harvest Consultant or their Pilgrimage Director of the alternate sites / travel. Harvest will do all possible to supply comparable services / accommodation and/or itineraries and there shall be no refund as a result of these amendments. 11. ROOM TYPES Prices are based on twin share rooms containing two single beds. An individual pilgrim s request to share is accepted at the time of booking. Specific requests (single/double/triple) must be made at time of booking and supply cannot be guaranteed. Single supplement surcharges apply for single room requests. Requests for double rooms or double beds cannot be guaranteed. Requests for triple room can be met by either a full sized triple room or a twin bedded room with extra roll-away bed. The twin share cost applies per person for all triple rooms booked. Pilgrims with a serious or ongoing medical condition or mobility constraint (subject to travel approval by Harvest) must bring an accompanying able bodied companion / carer. Pilgrims electing to twin share with an unknown partner of the same gender do so in the full knowledge that Harvest cannot guarantee, and is not responsible for the compatibility or medical fitness of your roommate. For all share requests, the applicable single supplement surcharge will apply at the time of booking. If you remain matched throughout the entire pilgrimage, you will be refunded the single supplement within two weeks of the completion of the pilgrimage. Any share allocation will be at Harvest s discretion and is not guaranteed. Please note that should you be matched with another pilgrim, Harvest cannot be held responsible if that choice is not to your satisfaction. If at any time during the pilgrimage you consider your rooming partner unsuitable, Harvest will use reasonable endeavours to allocate single rooms for the remainder of the tour, subject to availability using the prepaid single supplement surcharge. 12. SELLING PRICES Prices are current as at 30 September 2016 and are based on costs (including airfare and land costs), charges, tariffs, rates, taxes, levies and exchange rates calculated on the basic pilgrimage departure and are not inclusive of fees, costs, charges and levies for additional flight arrangements and stopovers. All costs are subject to change at any time due to alterations in taxes, charges or levies imposed by airlines, tour companies, governments, their agencies, principals and/or currency fluctuations. Harvest reserves the right to surcharge the price of a pilgrimage due to such increases. If the total pilgrimage cost increases by more than 10%, pilgrims will have the right to cancel within 7 days of advice of the surcharge without penalty. A pilgrimage can only operate at the advertised price if a minimum number of bookings are achieved. If at 49 days prior to departure, numbers fall below the minimum, a surcharge on booked pilgrims may be applied to ensure departure. Harvest is not responsible for disruption to any travel arrangements not booked or operated by Harvest. 13. ABOUT COSTS Included in the selling price of each pilgrimage are (although not restricted to) charges to cover the cost of research, reservations from agents in Australia and from our overseas destinations, postage, facsimile, telephone, bank charges, currency transfers, documents, brochure production, printing, distribution, advertising and remuneration to travel agents. Cost breakup is not supplied. Deposit payment signifies your acceptance of these usual commercial costs and fees paid to our overseas associates. 14. ALTERATION TO PRODUCT OR SERVICES If circumstances beyond Harvest s reasonable control require that inclusions be altered, product of similar value or standard will be supplied. In the unlikely event of pilgrimage cancellation by Harvest, pilgrims are offered a change of arrangements, alternative tour or a full and immediate refund without further Harvest liability. 15. AIR TRAVEL Flights booked for pilgrimages will be in economy class on an airline of Harvest s choosing for departures from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Flights booked as part of a pilgrimage will be via the most appropriate route - although this may not be on a direct flight. If pilgrims choose to travel on an alternative airline to the group, they do so with the knowledge that additional costs / surcharges may apply. The scheduled flights used for all departures are subject to the usual conditions of the carrying airline and relevant to international law. Harvest accepts no responsibility for alterations to air schedules. As air fare increases and fuel surcharges can be applied without notice we reserve the right to apply the same at any time prior to final ticketing. Airlines endorsing this and ancillary brochures do not represent themselves either as contracting with any purchaser of a Harvest pilgrimage or as having any other legal responsibility with such purchaser. 16. HEALTH Any medical condition, disability or mobility difficulty that may affect the functioning of the group must be advised on the booking form. Any pilgrim with a pre-existing medical condition or illness must declare the nature of such condition at the time of booking and make arrangements for the provision of any drugs or other course of treatment that may be required during the tour. Any relevant health or mobility conditions not adequately disclosed may result in your immediate and direct return to your point of departure at your expense and without availability of refund. This clause is necessary to assure the health and safety of all group members and in particular those with whom you may be sharing a room. We recommend you consult your doctor in respect of your intended travel as this may also have some bearing on your application for travel insurance. Furthermore your doctor or the relevant Government Health authorities can advise on any vaccination requirements necessary. Certain pilgrims with a serious or ongoing medical condition or mobility constraint (subject to travel approval by Harvest) must bring an accompanying companion / carer. (refer SECTION 17 MINIMUM MOBILITY REQUIREMENTS) All requests for health / medical clearance submitted by pilgrims are at the sole discretion of the operating carrier / tour operator / travel insurance company. Harvest cannot be held responsible for the outcome of these decisions. 17. MINIMUM MOBILITY REQUIREMENTS Many of the sites visited on our pilgrimages require a reasonable amount of walking. Harvest must be advised, at the time of booking, of ANY physical condition that will affect your mobility. Your condition will be assessed and may require qualified medical consultation. Whilst Harvest will make reasonable attempts to accommodate any special needs it is not responsible in the event that we are not able to do so, nor are we responsible for any denial of services by carriers, hotels, restaurants or any independent suppliers. Most transportation services, including touring coaches are not equipped with wheelchair ramps. Harvest regrets that it cannot provide individual assistance to a pilgrim for walking, dining, getting on or off coaches or other personal needs. A qualified and physically able companion / carer must accompany travellers who need assistance and must be responsible for their wellbeing. Wheelchairs, walking aides or any particular hotel room specification cannot be arranged once a pilgrimage has commenced. If a Pilgrim s mobility limitation affects the operation of the pilgrimage, that pilgrim will be immediately returned home, at their expense and no refund for unused services will be applicable. 18. PASSPORT VISA Each pilgrim is personally responsible for ensuring they possess valid travel documentation. New passport applications must be personally applied for. Existing passports must not expire for at least 6 calendar months after the intended date of return to Australia. Non-Australian passport holders must possess a valid Australian Re-entry Certificate. If you are travelling on a passport issued by a country other than Australia, you will need to be aware that visa requirements may differ from those for Australian passport holders. Visas required by non Australian passport holders must be applied for by the passport holder. Your Harvest Consultant will be able to advise you of these requirements. Cancellation of a pilgrimage due to incomplete travel documentation will incur standard cancellation fees. 19. CHILDREN (UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE) Children travelling with accompanying parents or guardians are most welcome. Costs may vary according to the number of adults sharing a room and individual child costs will be supplied on request. 20. SPECIAL REQUESTS Any special requests (such as airline seating or dietary requirements) made at the time of booking are on a request only basis. Harvest will do all possible to accommodate requests but cannot guarantee these can be met in all instances. 21. GLOBAL PILGRIM ALLIANCE Harvest promotes various travel related products on behalf of the Global Pilgrim Alliance. It is Harvest s obligation to make these bookings on your behalf. We are not responsible for the operation of these services nor do we make or give any warranty or representation regarding their standard. All bookings made with one of Harvest s Alliance Partners are subject to the terms and conditions and limitations of liability of these providers. Harvest will not be held responsible if, for any reason, a travel service provider is not able to provide the services booked. Published costs for Global Pilgrim Alliance packages are shown in either US Dollars or Euro. Your Harvest Consultant will advise the equivalent Australian Dollar amount (including any bank fees and charges) at the time of final payment. 22. RESPONSIBILITIES Harvest agrees to make reservations with the Principal offering the services described in this and ancillary brochures. Harvest does not accept any responsibility for default causing loss or injury to persons whether by negligence or otherwise on the part of the Principal providing any facilities for any person taking advantage of the services described in this brochure. Harvest is not liable for any loss suffered by any person or any additional expense caused or occasioned by transportation provider delay, change of aircraft service, alteration to any other travel service, illness, injury, strike, civil disturbance, terrorism, quarantine, flood or other disturbances of whatsoever nature interfering with, altering, or adding to the cost of the service requested or booked. After departure, if the services included in the pilgrimage cannot be supplied or are altered for reasons beyond our control, Harvest will arrange for the provision of comparable services where possible. Any resulting additional expense will be payable by pilgrims and any resulting savings will be refunded. Harvest is not liable for any dissatisfaction the client may have with the properties used. You agree not to hold Harvest responsible for any decision made by insurers, and/or by any suppliers, or requirements of any foreign country, government authority or overseas laws and policies. The above exclusions of liability are subject to any statutory liability which unresolved may not be excluded by law. Unresolved difficulties must be conveyed to Harvest Australia Pty Ltd in writing with any supporting documents within 30 days of return to Australia. 23. DOCUMENTATION It is the Client s responsibility to carefully check all confirmation documentation, itineraries, air tickets and vouchers immediately upon receipt (particularly in regard to spelling of names and travel dates), and advise Harvest of any discrepancies. All travel documentation will be available for collection / courier delivery 10 14 days prior to your scheduled departure. Tour Only pilgrims must advise Harvest, at the earliest time, of their departure date from Australia. 24. CURRENCY Costs listed are in local currency for Australia (AUD), except for the Global Pilgrim Alliance programme (refer SECTION 21 GLOBAL PILGRIM ALLIANCE). 25. PRIVACY STATEMENT Harvest may collect personal information about you from third parties (including your medical practitioner) as reasonably required in planning and booking tours and for any purpose relating to your tour. You may seek access to any personal information which Harvest may hold about you in accordance with provisions of the Privacy Act 1988 (CL). 26. CONSUMER PROTECTION Harvest Australia Pty Limited ACN 056 849 426, Travel Agent Licence 2TA003632. Harvest is a Member of AFTA and ATAS. 27. NEW SOUTH WALES LAW The Terms and Conditions published herein are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. 28. VALIDITY The programmes listed in this Harvest brochure supersedes the Harvest 2016 programme and is valid to 31 December 2017.
