CHRISMON TREE HISTORY: PART 2 The ornaments on the tree in the front of the sanctuary are known as Chrismons CHRISt MONograms. They have been made over a number of years by the children, youth and adults of The Peoples Church. Chrismons are always made of white and gold to signify Christ s purity and majesty. Stars are symbols formed by crosses set at differing angles. They illustrate the relationship between Christ s birth and death. Some have additional meanings based on the number of points. How many of these can you find on the tree? 4 points Star Cross: The points represent the four corners of the Earth; and the four Gospels. 5 points Advent Star/Star of Jacob: Announces the birth of Christ. A rose in the center represents Christ. 6 points Morning Star/Creator s Star: Represents the six days of creation. 8 points Star of Baptism: The points represent the eight people saved on Noah s ark as baptism cleanses our hearts. Many baptismal fonts have an octagonal base. 12 points Heavenly Star: Often represents completeness. In the New Testament twelve represents the church built upon the life and ministry of the twelve apostles. FLOWER DEDICATIONS Sunday floral dedications offer members weekly opportunities to celebrate and remember loved ones. Dedications may be reserved with a memorial gift of $85 to benefit the Sanctuary Fund.
