Pulpit Supply: Heather Donnelly May 7, 2017 11 am Easter 4 Welcome and thank you for joining in our worship this holy morning! We hope you feel at home in our midst. Grace and peace to you all. THOUGHT FOR MEDITATION If you want to build a ship, don t herd people together to gather wood and don t assign them work and tasks, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea. - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry T H E G A T H E R I N G *Please rise in body or in spirit for sections marked with an asterisk. *WELCOME & LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE *INTROIT: Christ is Alive (#158 VU) Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. The cross stands empty to the sky. Let streets and homes with praises ring. Love, drowned in death, shall never die. *CALL TO WORSHIP: Holy One, You are the one who comes to us in the Holy Spirit You are the one who calls us to recognize you today and every day As the splendid mystery

Gather our hearts and minds this day. Kindle our God-consciousness. Let us worship you in awe and wonder! OPENING PRAYER: Tender God, we yield to your gentle guidance. Like a shepherd you provide all that we need: you know when we should lie down and rest, Help us to trust the rhythms of the spirit; lead us away from compulsive action and the false peace of apathy. You restore our souls. We gaze into still waters and see ourselves clearly now: reflections of your image looking back with love. You lead on the paths that are right for us and for this planet. We trust your guidance. Even in the darkest valleys and most treacherous passes, the ground beneath us is firm, and our confidence is great that you are with us. You, Great Shepherd, the ground of our being, do not desert us. Our cup overflows with gratitude. May our lives be filled with compassion and goodness; this is all you ask in return. Amen Bruce Sanguin, (2010) If Darwin Prayed *HYMN MV#126 Are You a Shepherd? SOULS SEARCHING Merciful and Loving God, we ask forgiveness because our consciousness of you is dimmed by everyday desires and needs. Raise our consciousness of you, O God. We forget that we are a reflection of your image. We act as though you are a Sunday-only event. Increase our mindfulness of you, O God. Help us to a greater common awareness of your deep mystery and infinite presence. 2. Rouse our awareness of you, God. Open our eyes from surface focus to depth perception. Turn our heads from shallow concerns to eternal truths. Awaken us from faint-heartedness, O God.

Forgive us for our narrow and selfish ways. Save us from cheap grace with your amazing grace. Forgive us, O God. We ask in Jesus precious name. Amen. NEW MARYLAND UNITED CHURCH OUTREACH COMMITTEE Spring cleaning time is upon us! Spring has sprung, the fresh air surrounds us, new life grows up around us and brings about a renewed energy within us. We invite you to clean out your closets and join us in supporting the Association for Community Living. We will be accepting donations of gently used, clean clothing and footwear for the entire month of May. Donations may be dropped off at the church during the week or on Sundays. We can arrange pick-ups for those that are not able to drop off items themselves. The New Brunswick Association For Community Living (NBACL) is a provincial non-profit organization that works on behalf of children and adults with an intellectual disability and their families. They work to ensure that people with an intellectual disability, with the support of their families, have the option to choose the supports they need to live meaningful lives and participate in their communities as valued and contributing members. Donating clothing is one way the Association fund raises. 6.
