Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Matthew 9:36-38 From Pastor Ralph... January is one of the times that people examine their lives and set new directions. A year is a significant part of life, and it s important not to waste it. Good things rarely happen by accident! It takes training, practice, and conditioning to become a good athlete. It takes work to become a good student, master a language, pass the BAR exam, or master an instrument. We don t become our best or live effective lives by accident. We have to be intentional. God tells us that there are three primary purposes for life. He calls us to know Him, become the person we were created to be, and do the things He put us here to do (minister to the world and His family). We find the purpose of our life in these. His plan for us is the most important thing in life! At Harvest we encourage everyone to put together a plan for the year to intentionally move forward in God s plan. We call it our Plan for Spiritual Growth. We have identified habits that for centuries have helped Christians grow effectively in Christ. They involve commitments to worship, to give, to be in ministry, to be in close relationship with other believers (we usually do this in small groups), and daily habits of growth. The most important daily habit is time in prayer and the Bible, though there are many others. Over the next couple of weeks we will have brochures and commitment cards at church to help you put together a plan. On Sunday, January 29, we will commit our plans together to the Lord. Don t let 2017 slip by. Make a plan this year to let God help you make 2017 your best year ever! Also, most of us have friends, family, co-workers, or neighbors who we want to see following Christ. January is one of those times when people tend to be more open to come to church because the New Year has them thinking about their lives. Don t miss this opportunity to bring them to church!
