Tom Joe McKeever shared these "12 Bits of Easter Foolishness We Should Avoid This Year" in ChurchLeaders.com. Read 'em and weep. 1. Fuss at those who come. "Welcome! Haven't seen you since Christmas!" Not cute. 2. Put on a "Dog and Pony Show" instead of preaching the Gospel. What we use to attract people to our church will have to be maintained in order to keep them. That's why I always preach the Gospel on Easter Sunday. 3. Present Cantatas. Easter is the day to open Scripture for its life-changing, death-defying power! 4. Do Nothing. Business as usual=boring. 5. Make it about Eggs and Bunnies. Enough Said. 6. Bring in a Guest Speaker. Friends, Never Trust a Preacher Who Is Willing To Give Up His or Her Pulpit on Easter Sunday! 7. Fail to get a record of those who attended. We want names and addresses of every newcomer. 8. Vary Your Preaching Approach Too Much. Preach the Word, and don't try to tell the entire story in one sitting. 9. Going ga-ga over women's hats and children's Easter outfits. What about the poor folks who would love to buy new outfits but are unable? 10. Welcoming your guests to a poorly kept building and a neglected campus. The first impressions people have are huge. 11. Failing to pray for yourself, your church staff, the congregation, and newcomers who will walk in. 12. Failing to follow-up with guests in a creative, non-intrusive way. Sunday is the Very Best Day in our history-because it's the LATEST chance to celebrate Jesus' Resurrection! See you Sunday! Tom
