Old Delhi was the capital of Islamic India and is a labyrinth of narrow lanes contrasting with the imperial city of New Delhi created by the British which features spacious, tree-lined avenues and imposing government buildings. Delhi has been the seat of power for several rulers and many empires for about a millennium. The city was built, destroyed and then rebuilt many times We see Rashtrapati Bhawan (the official residence of the President of India), India Gate (a majestic arch, 42 meters high, built as a memorial to the Indian Soldiers killed in World War I) and the Qutab Minar (the 72.5m high tower dating back to the 13th century and one of the greatest bequests of the Islamic culture). We also see the Laxmi Narayan Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the Preserver, and his consort, Goddess Lakshmi. Day 4 Enjoy a tour through the narrow lanes of Old Delhi experiencing a colorful history dating back thousands of years. Walk from the former centre of Delhi, Chandani Chowk, to various places of interest as the Royal Mughals did centuries ago seeing the Maulana Azad Tomb and India s largest mosque, Jama Masjid Ride a Cycle Rickshaw to visit the Red Fort and Raj Ghat where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated Exchange (tbd) Day 5 We visit Fatehpur Sikri on the way to Agra, a city renowned for the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort Overnight Agra Day 6 We visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise one of the most amazing times of the day to witness this jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the world s most universally admired masterpieces. Tour the Red Fort of Agra, the 16th-century Mughal monument situated on the bank of river Yamuna, a proud monument to the past Overnight Agra Day 7 Transfer to Jaipur Guided city tour including a visit to the City Palace, the former Royal residence a part of which has now been converted into a museum featuring an impressive display of armory. Built in the style of a fortification, the palace covers almost one-seventh in area of the city and the Jaipur royal family still lives in a portion of the palace. Day 8 Take time to view the manufacture of traditional arts and crafts that Jaipur is so famous for Exchange (tbd) Overnight Jaipur Day 9 Tour the Amber Fort on Elephants. Work started on constructing this classical romantic Rajasthan fort palace in 1592. Its rugged forbidding exterior belies an inner paradise where a beautiful fusion of Mughal and Hindu styles finds its ultimate refinement. Painted scenes of hunting and war adorn the walls with precious stones and mirrors set into the plaster. Drive to Delhi Day 10 Visit the Dilli Haat Arts & Crafts Bazar which has the ambience of a traditional rural Haat or village market. This food and craft bazar is a treasure trove of Indian culture, handicrafts and ethnic cuisine Day 11 Visit the Lotus Temple, a Bahá í House of Worship completed it 1986. Notable for its flower like shape, it serves as the Mother Temple of the Indian subcontinent Tour the Akshardham Temple which displays millennia of traditional Hindu and Indian culture, spirituality, and architecture.
