ISBF Meeting ALLIANCE INTER-MONASTERIES AIM Winter 2017 Here are a few reminders of AIM activities, chosen so that all may stay in solidarity with the life of our monasteries.

The next meeting of the Council of AIM will be held at the Abbey of Jouarre (France) from November 15-16. In addition to discussion about the state of monastic life throughout the World, a document will be worked on, from a proposal of the International Team on an internal re-interpretation of the life of communities in an unprecedented period of change that we are going through. ISBF The Association of Monks and Nuns of India and Sri Lanka held its session in Sri Lanka this Summer. The new President of the ISBF is Abbot Jerome of Asirvanam. The number of monasteries in this area is quite large. An apostolic dimension marks most communities. Philippines A continuing education programme is being set up for the monasteries of the Congregation of Eucharistic King, with a good sharing of intellectual and spiritual resources between the different monasteries. Such an initiative should be encouraging for other monasteries around the world. Sr M-Placid of AIM is working with this project. Tanzania, Mozambique Ndanda Abbey has just founded St Pachomius Priory in Awase, near Mocimboa in Mozambique. The foundation is not yet built. Three brothers of Ndanda have been prepared for two years for this foundation. Ndanda West Africa Mother Benedicta Assima received the abbatial blessing at the Abbey of the Assumption, Dzobegan (Togo) on August 15 th, the Feast of the Assumption of Virgin Mary. The reunion of the superiors of the monasteries of West Africa will be held in January at the monastery of Parakou Dzogbegan (Benin). A session for Noviciate formators (male and female) organised by the major superiors of the French speaking monasteries of West Africa will take place from 18 th to 28 th January 2018 in Friguiagbe (Guinea-Conakry). The theme will be: Fraternal life according to the Rule of St Benedict when faced with syncretism.

The priory of Cuba, founded a few years ago by the congregation of St Ottilien is doing well. Father Jacques, a Togolese, is the prior. There are two Philippino monks and two Korean monks. Three members are Cuban. The community lives in buildings that belong to the Army. Building is very expensive in Cuba. The testimony given by the community is received positively by the population. But, it will take a lot of time and perseverance for the community to develop well. The latest AIM newsletter (No.113) gives a detailed account of the trip to Peru and Colombia by Fr Jean-Pierre Longeat, President of AIM. He participated in the meeting of ABECCA (Association of Monasteries of Central America and the Caribbean), which has a new President, Fr Alex, Prior of Pachacamac (Peru). In November, he will visit the CIMBRA meeting in Brazil for the fiftieth anniversary of this association serving the monasteries of the Benedictine family in Brazil. At their General Chapter, the 230 Trappist superiors were received in a private audience by Pope Francis, who delivered a very helpful exhortation. The five conferences on the Vision of the Future will be published in the next AIM Bulletin. The Order is preparing a document on continuing formation based on experience. Sr Christine Conrath took part in the meeting of the International Commission of Benedictines. This meeting of twenty-four regional delegates was held in September in Korea at the Priory of Daegu belonging to the Sisters of Tutzing, during the first week, and in several other monasteries in the following week. In South Korea, there are about 1,000 sisters and 200 monks. The Sylvestrine congregation celebrates this year, the 750 th anniversary of the death of its founder, St Silvestro Guzzolini (1177-1267). From the 1 st to 3 rd June 2017, a symposium was held at the monastery of Fabriano (Montefano), under the patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and chaired by Fr Michael Kelly, the Abbot General of the Congregation. The theme was St Silvestro, news of a charism.

It was an intense three days lived in a great cultural and spiritual atmosphere, at an international level, with monks and scholars from various parts of the world present, as well as the Abbot Primate Gregory Polan, and the Abbot General of the Congregation of the Olivetans, Diego Maria Rosa, etc. These days were concluded by a Eucharist presided over by Mgr Parolin, Secretary of State of the Vatican, in the presence of several bishops. For more details and photos, see the Montefano website: http:// www.monasterosansilvestro.org/it/notizie The congregation today comprises eight monasteries : three in Italy, two in India, one in Sri Lanka, one in Australia and one in the United States. On the occasion of the 4 th Centenary of the founding of the Congregation of Notre Dame du Calvaire, the sisters devoted themselves to highlighting their musical heritage of the 17 th Century. They collaborated in this, with two musicians and were able to interpret the works thus updated during a spiritual concert at the Cathedral of Poitiers, as part of a Colloquium related to the 4 th Centenary. The musicians in question, Manolo Gonzalez and Carole Matras, are ready to intervene for other musical archives of monasteries in France or abroad in order to allow the monks or nuns concerned to highlight such a heritage and thereby even to progress in the musical practice at the service of the Liturgy. In order to make contact, please get in touch with Manolo Gonzalez and Carole Matras at manolo.gonzalez@orange.fr The site is well updated. Do not hesitate to consult it every day. You will learn many things. Address: www.aimintl.org Number 113 was published in October, its theme being the monastic life and the family. As with previous issues, many sections mark its pages.

Constructions The Catequistas Sisters of Mexico are asking for help in rebuilding the church of their community. It is a growing congregation of Benedictine sisters. The Benedictine sisters of Tchad, of the congregation of Rixensart, bravely continue their presence, their prayer and their action in this country whose living conditions are not always easy. They would like to build a church to properly celebrate the liturgy by welcoming the faithful who join them. Queretaro Tchad In Loc Nam, Vietnam, the community of sisters founded by the monastery of Thu Dac, of the Congregation of Saint Bathilde is developing well. It wants to construct a building for the novitiate. Loc Nam Others Amongst other sectors for which AIM supports projects, there are projects which include profit-making activities, large meetings of regional monastic associations or international meetings of Superiors, publications (e.g. Translation and book publishing in Vietnamese) and liturgical assistance in different aspects (purchase of liturgical books, singing sessions, etc). Thank you for all of your contributions of any kind. With best wishes, fraternally, Fr.
