Types of Promises Nature 1.) Oral (or written)(a) Genesis 3:15 2.) Visible (B) Genesis 9:8-17 3.) Grand Scheme (C) Genesis 12:1-3 Time 1.) Temporary (D) Exodus 16:2-7 and Joshua 5:12 2.) Everlasting (E) Isaiah 55:1-5

Promises of Old Genesis 12:1-3 2 Samuel 7:8-17 Isaiah

1 John 2:25-29 2 Peter 3:9-10 Ephesians 3:11-12

Acts 2 We See: Structure for a sermon Emphasis on the resurrection Water baptism IS a commandment Scripture is necessary to back everything up with

Isaiah 13:6-10 (Isa 13:6) Wail, for the day of the LORD is near! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.(Isa 13:7) Therefore all hands will fall limp, And every man's heart will melt.(isa 13:8) They will be terrified, Pains and anguish will take hold of them; They will writhe like a woman in labor, They will look at one another in astonishment, Their faces aflame.(isa 13:9) Behold, the day of the LORD is coming, Cruel, with fury and burning anger, To make the land a desolation; And He will exterminate its sinners from it.(isa 13:10) For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not flash forth their light; The sun will be dark when it rises And the moon will not shed its light.

Ephesians 1:13-23

The Promise of the Resurrection Mark 8:31 1 Corinthians 15:12-19

1 Corinthians 15:12-19 12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.

Vain (Kenos) and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain (1 Corinthians 15:14) Kenos Empty or absolutely NOTHING NO RESURRECTION=EMPTINESS

Symbolism behind baptism The washing away of sins Being BURIED with Christ and being RAISED up with Him Romans 1:4-6 Romans 4:25

Romans 4:25 25 He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification

The Empty Tomb This automatically proves that Jesus is the son of God Skeptics give 3 reasons for this empty tomb 1. The swoon theory

The swoon theory The swoon theory is the theory that Jesus never really died on the cross but that He was crucified and came very close to death. It further states that He was taken down from the cross and laid in the tomb. After three days the coolness of the tomb revived Him and He managed to roll away the stone, come out of the tomb and appear to the disciples making them think He'd risen from the dead. -carm.org/swoon-theory (Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry)

John 19:1 Pilate then took Jesus and scourged Him

John 19:2 And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and put a purple robe on Him;

Matthew 27:30 They spat on Him, and took the reed and began to beat Him on the head

Matthew 27:38 At that time two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right hand and one on the left

John 19:32-34 32 So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who was crucified with Him; 33 but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

Mark 16:1-4 1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 They were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?" 4 Looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large.

Swoon Theory (Con t) Do you think a Roman soldier knew when a man was dead? Do you believe that someone who was in this condition, could get up and walk away with no water, medical attention, or food? It takes more faith to believe that then to believe that Jesus was raised!

The Empty Tomb This automatically proves that Jesus is the son of God Skeptics give 3 reasons for this empty tomb 1. The swoon theory 2. The disciples stole the body

Matthew 28:11-15 11 Now while they were on their way, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened. 12 And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, 13 and said, "You are to say, 'His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.' 14 And if this should come to the governor's ears, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble." 15 And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this day.
