(Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) The parish welcomes those seeking fuller participation in the life of the Church. RCIA is a program offered each year for the following people: Individuals who have never been baptized and who wish to be baptized and welcomed into the Catholic faith. Individuals who have been baptized in another Christian tradition and who wish to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. Individuals who were baptized in the Catholic Church but never received first Holy Communion. The first eleven weeks are considered an inquiry period with no formal commitment required, so all are welcome to register and come and see. February 25, 2018 PRAYER: Throughout Scripture, Jesus goes to pray in deserted places. Lent is our "deserted place." We draw near to God through Mass, confession, and spiritual practices, but we are also invited to spend time in prayer alone with the Father like Jesus did. FASTING: Fasting is not a diet! With a diet, we try to achieve a physical goal in this world. In fasting, we try to achieve a spiritual goal in the next. Fasting helps us to sacrifice our preferences and less-than-healthy impulses to build discipline to choose the good in all areas of life. ALMSGIVING: Time and time again, the Bible tells us that, to love God, we must love others. Our "neighbor" is someone we might not expect. Giving alms is an opportunity to support and care for our neighbor in need. Knights in Action MARCH 11th 2-5:30 PM at St. Martha s Day of Recollection SIGN UP TODAY HOLY SPIRIT PARISH PASSOVER SEDER Thursday, March 22, 6 PM, in St. Mary s Church Hall. Passover is the 8-day feast commemorating the freedom and exodus of the Jewish slaves from Egypt. It is a time of family gatherings and lavish meals called Seders. The Seder, with its special foods, songs, and customs, is the focal point of the Passover celebration. You are invited to Holy Spirit Parish Passover Seder. Sign up in the narthex so that a place with all the traditional foods will be set for you. Bring a covered main dish (no pork) or a dessert. FMI: Marla Blackwell, 467-0956 READING RESOURCES The Knights of Columbus at St. Mary s and St. Martha s have placed kiosks in the narthex of each church. They contain booklets published by Catholic Information Service (CIS) for Building the Domestic Church - While Strengthening our Parish. There are 15 different booklets with topics that include parenting, fatherhood, and family prayer life, as well as two of St. John Paul II s famous messages for the family - Letter to Families and The Family in the Modern World. The booklets are free of charge, but can be used as a lending library. If you take them and do not intend to use them for future reference or review, please return them to the kiosk for another person or group to use. These booklets can be used by any parish spiritual study group to enhance spiritual formation. As the supply of booklets diminishes, they will be replaced. Questions concerning the booklets may be addressed to any Knight of Columbus. 5
Second Sunday of Lent STATIONS OF THE CROSS will take place each Friday of Lent. Stations at St. Mary s in Wells will be at 12 Noon, followed by a Lenten luncheon. Stations at St. Martha s in Kennebunk will be at 6 PM, preceded by a Lenten supper at 5:30 PM. Lent continues until the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, March 29. Good Friday, March 30, is a day of fast and abstinence (from meat) in the universal Church. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence (from meat) in the Church in the United States. The Law of Abstinence - Binds Catholics aged 14 and older. The Law of Fasting - Binds Catholics aged 18 and over, until the beginning of their 60th year (through age 59). CRS RICE BOWL...is a way for Catholics to live Lent. The program provides an opportunity for us to live in solidarity with our poorest and most vulnerable brothers and sisters through the three Lenten pillars of praying, fasting, and almsgiving. When we put money in our rice bowls, we are making a difference. What we give for Lent might change lives! Rice bowls will be available throughout most of the Lenten season. The Light is On for You Our diocese has designated the week of March 19 through March 23 to host "The Light is On for You". The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered from 6 to 7 PM on any four nights between Monday and Friday. More information to follow. 6 PARISH LENTEN MISSION Our mission will take place on March 5, 6, & 7. It will be held in Wells after the 8 AM Mass, and in Kennebunk at 6:30 PM. The three-day Mission offers us opportunities to feed our faith, to slow down, to help make Christ our focus, to provide examples for our children... It may also spiritually deepen our Lenten Season! Our program, "Find and Live Your Mission", will be presented by Sheila Murphy. Sheila holds a Masters in Pastoral Ministry from Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles and a music degree from Marywood University in PA. She has been serving in All Saints Parish in Brunswick, ME, since 2000, and has worked with Fr. Morse and Fr. Murphy. Her ministries have included Adult Ministry, Youth Ministry, Music Ministry, and teaching in the Parish School. She has also served in parishes in MA, PA, and CA. She is married to Deacon John Murphy and has two collegeaged children. Sheila has a big heart for mission, both the kind for which we must leave home, and the kind to which we re called in our daily lives. COME AND JOIN US! The choir will next sing on Palm Sunday, March 25, at the 10 AM mass at St. Martha s. Rehearsals are at both churches, alternating Thursdays, 6-8 PM. For choir information, contact Lisa White at (207) 351-0502 or Lisafohlin@yahoo.com.
