Preteen Sunday School Lesson Jesus Heals Peter s Mother-In In-Law Mark 1:30-34
Lesson Aim Jesus has the power to heal. Jesus cares about family. After Peter s mother-in-law was healed by Jesus she got up and served. Jesus always found time in His busy schedule to pray. ======================================= As you begin to prepare to teach this lesson, ask God to fill you with the wisdom and knowledge of Jesus. Find ways to keep the preteens in your class interested, but yet focused on the main points. Being an example of Christ s love: You will be the best evidence your kids may ever get, so be sure to ask them before you start your class, if there is anyone you would like them to pray for, e.g., a sick friend or relative, someone who may be going through a rough time. Find practical real life ways to connect the lesson to help your kids learn and relate to Jesus love and compassion He shares with average people like you and me! Mark 1:30-34 29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. 31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them. 32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered at the door, 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. 35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

Who Was Jesus Jesus Cares About Family Since God made family from the beginning, family has been and is the core of everything. So, when one is hurting, they all hurt. We see images of this throughout scripture (the church family, Lazarus family, Peter s family, Joseph s family, and so on). In this miracle of Jesus, we see that it wasn t just Peter s mother-in-law who needed to be tended to, but also the disciples, Peter and Andrew. They were hurting too. One of their family members was ill. The same can be true in our church families and biological families. We can get distracted by the physical ailments of life and forget about the spiritual. If we aren t taking our cares and worries to God and instead trying to deal with them on our own strength, it will drain us of the work God has called us to do. Just 15 verses before this miracle, Jesus called Peter, Andrew, James, and John to follow Jesus. Jesus is calling the disciples into a whole new phase of life and so, in this miracle I believe Jesus is saying to Peter, Andrew, James, John, you, and me. I will be there for your family when you step out in faith and serve me.
Serving Jesus 1. What was the first thing that Peter s mother-in-law did after Jesus healed her (Verse 31)? 2. Name or think of ways you can serve Jesus with the abilities He s given you.
