Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Matthew 9:36-38 From Pastor Ralph... Christmas: the most wonderful time of the year! Many people don t feel that way. Disappointment, family tensions, financial pressures, and overwhelming busyness cause many to dread Christmas. In a fallen and sinful world, people are robbed of the things they were made for. But God has put in every heart the desire for wonder, delight, joy, beauty, and love; and He gives us temporary glimpses of these. Many of these glimpses come at Christmas when one of the most wonderful and amazing things that ever happened took place God sent His son into our world to save us! It is good news of great joy for all people! The promise is that one day His people will experience unending joy in His presence and increasing joy in the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that we experience that joy as we abide in Him (John 15). Abiding in Him involves life connected to Jesus, living under His Lordship with increasing awareness of His presence. Christmas provides one of the best opportunities to grow in this awareness because there are continual reminders of Jesus and His goodness to us. Decorations are everywhere, and with all the planning, gift buying, cooking, and preparing, we are continually reminded of Christmas. Let s take this opportunity to be even more aware of His presence and pray continually (I Thessalonians 5:16) in this awareness of God and the opportunity to fellowship and abide in Him. Let each reminder focus your attention on the wonder of His coming and what salvation means for you. Let this season point you to the One who is wonder, delight, joy, beauty, and love; the One who will make us like Himself! May each reminder draw you into the fulfillment of His presence with you and in you. Make this season a time of wonder as you abide in the One who brings life in all its fullness!
