Pastor Profile Senior Pastor Characteristics The future Pastor at First Baptist Church should be an eloquent speaker who lives through his/her faith and whose sermons are Biblically sound and theologically and historically accurate. Through the sermons, it should be obvious that he/she is actively seeking God s vision and direction for us. While collaborating and planning with the staff, the sermons should be relevant and applicable to daily living while challenging us to grow spiritually and intellectually. The sermons should reflect the pastor s passion, enthusiasm and authenticity while remaining non-political. We seek a pastor who has the gift of comforting those in need, of challenging the comfortable, not afraid to address the hard questions or embrace the diversity that defines God s creation. First Baptist Church seeks a pastor that has compassion for the congregation and will respond to families in times of crisis, with appropriate counsel, calls, notes or visitation. The pastor should be genuinely interested and consistently aware of the significant needs within the congregation. The Pastor must be approachable and available for the congregation and staff, especially during a crisis. The Pastor must be an active listener but maintain the highest level of confidentiality. The staff and congregation at First Baptist Church welcome a Senior Pastor that works collaboratively with the current staff and laity, enhancing their strengths while distinguishing his/her role as leader. In order to champion an efficient environment, our congregation values an effective administrator who willingly delegates. It is important that our next pastor prayerfully consider and continually seeks God s will as he/she promotes the mission and vision of First Baptist Church. The pastor s ability to lead with a servant s heart must be abundantly felt among the congregation and within the community. Historically, First Baptist Church is a missional church committed to outreach, community involvement and meeting the needs of people that come from diverse backgrounds. While we continually seek God s vision, our next pastor should challenge us to be missional minded in our local community as well as worldwide. He/she needs to have love and compassion for the mistreated, oppressed and people without hope. Leading by example, our future pastor must constantly encourage and challenge us to be God s hands and feet in the community. He/she should continue to strengthen the ties we have established with other churches (regardless of denomination) and ministry groups and work to create new relationships. While having a strong and visible presence in our community, the Senior Pastor should consistently promote and support First Baptist Church s mission of honoring God by becoming and helping others to become fully devoted followers of Jesus. 2
