IN THE LIGHT OF QURAN & HADITH SUICIDE IS FORBIDDEN (A RESEARCH OVERVIEW) Hafiz Shakir Mahmood 1 & Hussain Muhammad Qureshi 2 & Ahmad Hassan 3 1 Deptartment of Islamic Studies with Specialization in Quran & Tafseer, AIOU, Islamabad 2 Deprtment of Islamic Studies & Research University of Science & Technology, Bannu 3 Lecturer, Islamic Center Copenhagen, Denmark ABSTRACT The human life is consecrated It should not be finished becuse of lack of resources poverty or hopelessness. Allah, praise to Him, like us to be as much nonviolent, sympathetic, considerate, and advantageous as we can for affluence and progression of the society, and for people to live in peace. There are some ways to achieve all the above mentioned qualities is to give reverence to be merciful, sympathetic, and to be beneficial towards one another. According to the teaching of Quran, committing suicide is a foremost sin and the person who commit suicide is liable to have eternal damnation and rage of God in the world and the henceforth and undeniably God forbids heaven for him. There is nothing more prized than life. Neither a man nor a woman is pleased with the right to take their life. Allah, praise to Him, strongly prohibited committing suicide, killing children because fear of poverty or any other body, as stated in verses 6: 151, 17: 33, 2: 195, and 4: 29. Say, "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you. [He commands] that you not associate anything with Him, and to parents, and do not kill your children because of poverty; we will endow with for you and them. And do not approach immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed. And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed] except by [legal] right. This has He instructed you that you may use motive (Holy Quran: Al-Ana'am, 6: 151). Keywords: Suicide is forbidden, Islamic Sharia, Holy Quran & Hadith INTRODUCTION Islamic Views on Suicide Suicide, in the light of the teachings of Islam, is forbidden. Those who Commit it, they disobey Allah and will be cursed to Hell. Before discussing the evidences of the Quran, Islam tells how big crime it is to commit suicide. Life is not somebody s personal property. It is rather entrusted by God to human. Therefore, Islam emphasizes on protecting lives. Based on the causes and prevention of suicide, teachings are also given for the protection of human life and energy. This is why suicide is strictly forbidden. Suicide is forbidden in Light of Holy Quran As mentioned above, the master of life and death is Almighty Allah. As to kill someone is like killing the whole humanity, similarly committing suicide without any reason is undesirable. He

said. The instruction given Settled. 'And do not put your own hands into destruction and becomes spiritual excellence, Allah loves those who do the good (Holy Quran: Al-Baqara: 2:195). Verse 30 of Sura Al Baqara, Baghawi in the interpretation of above verse 195 of Surat al-baqara, and wrote: lawyer: Muslim هnfs intent to kill anyone: Baghawi, Ma'alemTanzil, 1: 418 'And it was said that it refers to the suicide of a Muslim.'In another place, Allah Almighty says: 'And do not kill yourselves. Surely God is good to you and what will happen if no rancor and injustice soon (Hell) Fire will put in, and it is very easy for Allah (Holy Quran: Al-Nissa: 4:29/30). Imam Fakhruddin Razi writes in his commentary on this verse: 'And their souls do not die. This verse to kill a person to commit suicide on the prohibition order is legitimate argument (Razi, 10/57). Furthermore Baghawi the 'Ma'alemTanzil (1: 418), "I, Ibn Kathir, Tafseerul Throne (1: 481), and Tha'alebiny''aljuar alhsantafsir al-quran (3: 293) 'Sura Nisa prohibition of suicide under the above verses are based on the hadith (which are coming in the next pages). This proves that the imam's commentary on these verses suicide prohibition and prohibition are indicated. Suicide is strictly prohibited as this Hadith says. The Holy Prophet (SAW) said: 'Your body and eyes have rights over you (Bukhari, Hadith: 1874). This Hadith of the prophet (S.A.W) clearly emphasizes on the protection of the organs as well as of whole body. In the light of the aforementioned Hadith, how is it possible to allow Muslims to perform suicidal attacks and take the lives of the innocent citizens? The Holy Prophet (SAW) has said about suicide attacker that such people deserve Hell. ن ار ج ه ن م ي ت ر د ی ف ي ه خ ال د ام خ ل د اف ي ه اأ ب د ا) (ف ي (He will be in Hell fire; therein will he fall and live in it forever). LITERATURE REVIEW Fatwa in Durre Mukhtar "Even though one who commit suicide, will burn in hell forever, but the departed was a Muslim before doing this act and he will be obscured as per normal Muslim society. Such a person will be given Ghusl, Janaaza Salaat and burial in a Muslim cemetery as is the case with any other sinful Muslim. "Hadith of the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him warned of the double penalty for the one who commits suicide. Here are the words of the Prophet S.A.W: Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) said: Whoever kills himself down from the mountain, so they will be in the Fire, to abide therein, and will continue to fall remain there. Poison you and the person who removed the poison will be in his hands at the fire of hell he does and always will be there. Whoever kills himself with an iron weapon, and then the weapon will be in his hands which he hit in the belly of hell fire will always and forever will always remain there (Bukhari, Hadith: 5442).

'The Hazrat Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Whoever takes over your life if something chewing in Hell (always). Thus, a person who lost his life thrown into a pit and do the same if they are in hell, and who ended his life by hanging if they will do the same in the Fire (Bukhari, Hadith: 1299 and Bayhaqi, 1066 AD). The Hazrat Dhahhak (RA) narrated that the Holy Prophet (SAW) said: Whoever commits suicide with anything in hell if they (always) the same thing with the torment will go (Muslim, Hadith: 110). The seriousness and gravity of the forbidden act (suicide) are reflected by the words of the above Hadith. The person who commits suicide shall be damned to hell and the repeated torments will be his destiny. The Princes Condemned Suicide Ordering General prohibition of suicide in the above Hadith is explicitly depicted. Here are some of more significant Ahadith in which it is forbidden to obey the unlawful rulers who are a threat to the human life. Many youngsters have been informed who are brainwashed to obey their elders. They do not know about the limitations of obeying the elders and the rulers. It is mere ignorance and stupidity to kill many innocent people just because of obeying their chief. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has said about such rulers and their subordinate. Ali (RA) narrated that the Holy Prophet (SAW) once sent a military platoon under the supervision of an Ansar commander. He ordered the platoon to obey him. He got angry with them over some issue. Then he ordered them to gather some dried wood. Then he ordered them to sit them on fire and asked them if the Prophet (SAW) had ordered them to obey him. All of them replied in affirmative. Then he asked them to jump into the blazing fire. All the soldiers looked at one another and then one of them said that the Prophet (SAW) had ordered us to obey you for avoiding the fire. Meanwhile, commander s anger had gone and then he extinguished the fire. They told the story to the Prophet (SAW) after they returned. The Messenger of Allah told them had they jumped into that fire they would have never come out of it because they obedience is must only to do good deeds (Bukhari, Hadith: 6830).

The Suicide Paradise Those, who brainwash and convince the teenagers to become suicide bombers, should know that they are damned to Hell eternally. Allah Almighty has forbidden them to enter the Paradise forever. (1)- Hazrat Jandub bin Abdullah (RA) narrated hadith, Holy Prophet (SAW) said: ق ال اهللا ت ع ال ی: ب اد ر ن ي ع ب د ي ب ن ف س ه ح ر م ت ع ل ي ه ال ج ن ة ' One of you had got injured. Then he amputated the injured arm with a knife. It bled until death. This man has preceded My (Allah) order so Paradise has been forbidden for him (Bukhari, Hadith: 3276). (2) Hazrat Jandub of Hazrat Hasan Basri narrated, the Holy Prophet (SAW) said: ق ال ر ب ک م: ق د ح ر م ت ع ل ي ه ال ج ن ة 'In the previous generations, a man had an abcess on his body which started irritation. Then he pierced the abcess with a knife which bled to death. Allah said: I have forbidden Paradise upon him. The above mentioned ahadith never allow a person to take his life to avoid the pain or some disease. This act will not be acceptable to Allah and the person will be punished to Hell. DISCUSSIONS Hadith says, a Muslim fought daringly during a war. The blessing companions told the Prophet (SAW) the story of his bravery and courage. The Prophet (SAW) told them in the light of his prophetic knowledge that that man will go to Hell. The blessing companions were surprised to hear that but the fact revealed to them when he committed suicide due to unbearable pain of his injuries. No matter how brave and courageous soldier of Allah you are, suicide is never leads to Paradise. There is a hadith Sahal ibn Saa'd (RA) narrated:

ف ق ال : إ ن الر ج ل ل ي ع م ل ب ع م ل أ ه ل ال ج ن ة ف يم ا ي ب د و ل لن اس و إ ن ه ل م ن أ ه ل الن ار و ي ع م ل ب ع م ل أ ه ل الن ار ف يم ا ي ب د و ل لن اس و ه و م ن أ ه ل ال ج ن ة "The Muslims and pagans confronted each other during the campaign of Khyber, and they fought well. In the evening, they returned to their respective battalions. There was a Muslim who chased the lonely enemy and killed them. They said: O Messenger of Allah! A certain person has outdone today. The Prophet (SAW) said: He will be sent to Hell. They astonished and worried if he would go to Hell then which of them could enter the Paradise. One of the Muslims said, I would accompany him, he moved faster or slower to observe the situation. He got injured then he hasted to die i.e. he put the hilt of his sword on the ground and fell upon the sharp tip of the sword piercing his chest. The observer went to the Prophet (SAW) and said, I am the witness that you are the true Prophet of Allah. When the Prophet (SAW) inquired what the matter was, then he told him the whole story. Then Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: Verily, a man is acting like the one who deserved Paradise but in fact that man deserves Hell, and sometimes it happens that people see a man who acts like the one who deserves Hell but he goes to Paradise (Ibn Munda, Hadith: 644). ف ل م ا ک ان م ن الل ي ل ل م ي ص ب ر ع ل ی ال ج ر اح ف ق ت ل ن ف س ه ف أ خ ب ر الن ب ي صلی هللا عليه وآله وسلم ب ذ ل ک ف ق ال : اهللا أ ک ب ر أ ش ه د أ ن ي ع ب د اهللا و ر س ول ه ث م أ م ر ب ل ل ف ن اد ی ف ي الن اس أ ن ه ل ي د خ ل ال ج ن ة إ ل ن ف س م س ل م ة و أ ن اهللا ي ؤ ي د ه ذ ا الد ين ب الر ج ل ال ف اج ر 'Abu Hurayrah said: We were accompanying the Messenger of Allah during the war at Hunayn. Messenger of Allah (SAW) said about one of the Muslims: He will go to Hell. When the war began, he bravely fought and got injured. Prophet (SAW) was told: O Messenger of Allah! The man, about whom you had told that he would be in Hell, had fought bravely today and then he died. Allah's Messenger said he went to Hell. Some of the companions of Allah s messenger could not understand its philosophy and were nearly in doubt. Meanwhile, a man said to Prophet (SAW), that man had not died yet but was badly injured. He could not tolerate the pains so he committed suicide. Hearing that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said Allah is great! I testify that I am Allah's servant and His Messenger. Then Messenger of Allah called in Hazrat Bilal (RA) and told him to announce that only Muslims will go to Heaven and Allah strengthens his religion through the evil-doers (Muslim, Hadith: 111).

The Holy Prophet (SAW) Taught not to Commit Suicide Funeral The severity of the crime (suicide) can be guessed from the fact that Prophet (SAW), who is the embodiment of blessings of Allah to humanity, refused to perform the funeral of the one who committed suicide. Though he had prayed for his bitterest enemies and he also refused to perform the funeral of the hypocrites until got Allah s explicit permission. See the following reports: ع ن ج اب ر ب ن س م ر ة رضی هللا عنه ق ال : أ ت ي الن ب ي صلی هللا عليه وآله وسلم ب ر ج ل ق ت ل ن ف س ه ب م ش اق ص ف ل م ي ص ل ع ل ي ه 'Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah RA narrated that a person was brought to the Holy Prophet (SAW) who was killed himself with a spear, but Prophet (SAW) did not perform his funeral (Muslim, Hadith: 978). CONCLUSION Semitic Religions is ideologically the religions of peace, protection, forgiveness, and nobility. Believer in Allah and His Prophet (SAW) is he who does not only think for the betterment and peace but also has patience, peace, respect, and consideration for humanity. Semitic Religions itself is the religions of peace and gives the lessons of peace to others. Unlikely, those who spread fear, hatred, disintegration, and terrorize others and shed the blood for imposing Islam can never be Muslims even if they call themselves as Muslims. The significance of Islam can be seen in its teachings; killing a single human is as if you have killed the whole humanity. There is death penalty for the intentional killing. People are seriously warned of the harsh torments of Hell for killing the Muslims. If Islam does not permit to kill a single person or even himself, then how could it allow the suicidal attacks and massacre. So the youth who partake in suicidal attacks for massacre by obeying some strayed leaders do not only deviate from Islam but they also deserve the great torments of Hell. It is because they ruin the reputation of the most peaceful religion and encourage hatred amongst the people.
