The Circle Maker Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears By: Mark Batterson Book Description (from Amazon) Publication Date: Dec. 11, 2011 According to Pastor Mark Batterson in his book, The Circle Maker, 'Drawing prayer circles around our dreams isn't just a mechanism whereby we accomplish great things for God. It's a mechanism whereby God accomplishes great things in us.' Do you ever sense that there's far more to prayer, and to God's vision for your life, than what you're experiencing? It's time you learned from the legend of Honi the Circle Maker---a man bold enough to draw a circle in the sand and not budge from inside it until God answered his prayers for his people. What impossibly big dream is God calling you to draw a prayer circle around? Sharing inspiring stories from his own experiences as a circle maker, Mark Batterson will help you uncover your heart's deepest desires and God-given dreams and unleash them through the kind of audacious prayer that God delights to answer. My Synopsis: One of the top 5 books I ve ever read! I thought this book was so good, I bought a case to give away to friends & colleagues, something I had never done and haven t done since. It s a book that will challenge you prayer life. It will challenge you to become more focused and intentional about your relationship with God, and how that relationship affects every aspect of your life. Pastor Mark shares biblical insight and wisdom that you might ve missed on your own. Read the book with an open heart and be prepared to take notes along the way!

The Circle Maker Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears p.9 When it hasn't rained in more than a year, raindrops are like diamonds falling from the sky. p.13 Bold prayers honor God, and God honors bold prayers. p.13 If your prayers aren't impossible to you, they are insulting to God. p.13 The greatest moments in life are the miraculous moments when human impotence and divine omnipotence intersect. p.14 Who you become is determined by how you pray. p.14 God is not a genie in a bottle and your wish is not His command. His command better be your wish. p.16 Miracles are the by-product of prayers that were prayed by you or for you. p.17 The greatest tragedy in life is the prayers that go unanswered because they go unasked. p.21 If you keep circling the promise, God will ultimately deliver on it. p.22 You've got to define the promises God wants you to stake claim to, the miracles God wants you to believe for, and the dreams God wants you to pursue. p.22 Jesus forced them to define exactly what they wanted from Him. Jesus made them verbalize their desire. p.22 So while God is for us, most of us have no idea what we want God to do for us. p.23 Well-developed faith results in well-defined prayers, and well-defined prayers result in a well-lived life. p.23 What do you want me to do for you? p.23 Define your dream. Claim your promise. Spell your miracle. p.25 God does not answer vague prayers. p.26 Not every prayer will be answered the way we script it. p.26 The more faith you have, the more specific your prayers will be. p.27 Do the best you can with what you have where you are. p.27...the will of God has much more to do with being than doing. p.28 Success is spelled stewardship, and stewardship is spelled success. p.28 Help people maximizing their God-given potential. p.28 Potential is God's gift to us; what we do with it is our gift back to God. p.28 My desire is that the people who know me the best respect me the most. p.28 Success is living life with such authentic integrity that those who know me best actually respect me most. p.28 If you don't have a personal definition of success, chances are you will succeed at the wrong thing. p.29 Change of pace + change of place = change of perspective p.29 It wasn't problem solving that won the day, it was prayer solving.

p.32 The footnote is prayer. And if you focus on the footnotes, God will write the headlines. p.33 Most of us don't get what we want because we quit circling. p.34 If you want God to do something new in your life, you can't do the same old thing. p.34 Make the sacrifice. Take the risk. Draw the circle. p.37 True faith doesn't just celebrate ex post facto, after the miracle has already happened; true faith celebrates before the miracle happens, as if the miracles has already happened, because you know that God is going to deliver on His promise. p.38 Prayer and praise are both expressions of faith, but praise is a higher dimension of faith. p.38 When God gives you a promise, you need to praise Him for it. p.41 At some point, most of us stop living out of imagination and start living out of memory. p.42 The more you pray the bigger your imagination becomes because the Holy Spirit supersizes it with God sized dreams. p.43 The day we stop dreaming is the day we start dying. p.43 Nothing honors God more than a big dream that is way beyond our ability to accomplish. p.45 Faith is the willingness to look foolish. p.46 You cannot build God's reputation if you aren't willing to risk yours. p.46 If you don't take the risk, you forfeit the miracle. p.48 Logic is screaming no; faith is whispering yes. p.49 You are only one defining decision away from a totally different life. p.50 Too often we let how get in the way of what God wants us to do. p.50...if you aren't willing to put yourself in this is crazy situations, you'll never experience this is awesome moments. p.53 God doesn't just provide in dramatic fashion; God provides in dramatic proportion. p.54 Jesus taught multiplication. He promised that He would multiply His blessings if we work like it depends on us and pray like it depends on God. p.55 If you give generously and sacrificially, the day may come when you're giving more than you're currently making. p.61 Having vision beyond your resources is synonymous with dreaming big. p.62 When God doesn't answer our prayer right away, we try to answer it for Him. p.62...no doesn't always mean no; sometimes no means not yet. p.63...we shouldn't seek answers as much as we should seek God. p.63 If you seek answers you won't find them, but if you seek God, the answers will find you. p.64 Lord, do something unpredictable and uncontrollable. p.64 If you want God to surprise you, you have to give up control. p.66 If you aren't willing to be perplexed, you'll never be amazed.

p.68 One bold prayer can accomplish more than a thousand well-laid plans. p.69 Keep planning like it depends on you, but make sure you pray like it depends on God. p.71 God is infinitely bigger than your biggest problem or biggest dream. p.72 The size of prayers depends on the size of our God. And if God knows no limits, than neither should our prayers. p.76 God doesn't call the qualified; God qualifies the called. p.79 We are quick to celebrate the answer to prayer, but the answer probably didn't come quickly. p.79 I've never met a person who didn't experience some big disappointments on the way to his or her big dream. p.82 If you aren't desperate, you won't take desperate measures. p.85 Success is a derivative of persistence. p.87 We allow our circumstances to get between God and us instead of putting God between us and our circumstances. p.89 Jesus promises blessing if we are not offended when He does things for others. p.89 Never put a comma where God puts a period, and never put a period where God puts a comma. p.90 Even when it seems like your dream is dead and buried, it's too soon to put a period there. p.91 When you know you are praying the promises of God, you can pray with holy confidence. p.99 If it hadn't taken a miracle, it wouldn't be a miracle. p.109 If we chicken out, we miss out on the miracle; if we pray through, God will come through. p.109 God loves showing up in unexpected ways at unexpected times. p.109 JEJIT > just enough just in time p.110 We want a one-week or one-month or one-year supply of God's provision, but God wants us to drop to our knees every day in raw dependence on Him. p.110 Our desire for self-sufficiency is a subtle expression of our sinful nature. p.111 God will keep putting you in situations that stretch your faith, and as your faith stretches, so do your dreams. p.111 Complications are evidence of God's blessing. p.112 Praying hard is asking God to make your life harder. p.112 Praying hard is synonymous with working hard. p.113 God is great not just because nothing is too big for Him; God is great because nothing is too small for Him. p.113 The reason many of us miss the miracles is that we aren't looking and listening. p.116 It's often our unwillingness to take a step of faith and get our feet wet that keeps us from experiencing a miracle.

p.116 We're so close to the dream, so close to the promise, so close to the miracle. But we aren't willing to get our feet wet. p.121 Some of the hardest moments in life are when you've prayed hard but the answer is no and you don't know why. p.122 Sometimes your only option is trust because it is the last card in your hand, but it's the wild card. p.122 What we perceive as unanswered prayers are often the greatest answers. p.124 God doesn't settle for what is good. p.124 Sometimes God gets in the way to show us the way. p.125 But the divine detours often get us where God wants us to go. p.126...when you follow in the footsteps of Jesus, you never know what door He may open. p.128 You can't pray for open doors if you aren't willing to accept closed doors, because one leads to the other. p.133 Each prayer is like a seed that gets planted in the ground. p.134 Prayer is the inheritance we receive and the legacy we leave. p.134 We want to reap the second after we sow, but this isn't the way it works with dreaming big and praying hard. We need the patience of the planter. We need the foresight of the farmer. We need the mindset of the sower. p.135 We want things to happen at the speed of light instead of the speed of a seed planted in the ground. p.135 The key to dreaming big and praying hard is thinking long. p.135 One dimension of thinking long is thinking different, and prayer is the key to both. p.135...we tend to overestimate what we can accomplish in a year...we also tend to underestimate what we can accomplish in a decade. p.138 Praying through is long and boring, but it is the price you pay for miracles. p.138...one prayer can accomplish more than a thousand plans. p.142 It's not just where you end up that's important, it's how you get there. p.148 In the circle of successful living, prayer is the hub that holds the wheel together. Conrad Hilton p.154 Everything we see and hear is priming us in a positive or negative way. p.154 Prayer helps us see and seize the God-ordained opportunities that are all around us all the time. p.155 We need to establish a daily rhythm in order to have a relationship with God. p.155 Our biggest shortcoming is low expectations. p.157 Let God be as original with other people as He is with you. Oswald Chambers p.162 If you allow them to, your disappointments will create drag. p.167 The great danger when God does a miracle is that we get uncomfortable. p.168 If you make good decisions on a daily basis, it has a cumulative effect that pays dividends the reset of your life. p.170 The only way you can fail is if you quit trying.

p.176 You'll never achieve the goals you don't set. p.179 Prayer is the best way to jump-start the process of goal setting. p.179 If you set goals in the context of prayer, there is a much higher likelihood that your goals will glorify God. p.180 I stopped setting getting goals and started setting giving goals. p.181 Just like our prayers, our goals need to be specific. p.182 If you haven't written down your goals, you haven't really set them. p.183 Nothing cements a relationship like a shared goal. p.185 Setting goals is the way you turn imaginations into memories... p.185 Most of us overestimate what we can accomplish in two years, but we underestimate what we can accomplish in ten years. p.185 If you want to dream until the day you die, you need to set goals that take a lifetime to achieve. p.186 The sad truth is that most people spend more time planning their summer vacation than they do planning the rest of their life. p.186 Instead of living by default, goals help us live by design. p.189 The degree of satisfaction is directly proportional to the degree of difficulty. p.209 Dream big. Pray hard. Think big. p.211 When you dream big, pray hard, and think long, there is nothing God cannot do.
