Syllabus for The Book of Revelation

TEXTBOOK The Holy Bible (King James Version) COURSE REQUIREMENTS 1. Read the entire book of Revelation by the end of the course. 2. Do a research paper. a. It must be at least six (6) pages. b. It must be double spaced with no more than ½ inch margins. c. It must be with font type in either 10 or 12 point type. d. It must be on one of the following topics; i. Premillennialism vs amillennialism and postmillennialism ii. The Kingdom of the Antichrist iii. The Revived Roman Empire iv. The Rapture v. The Second Coming of Christ vi. The Seven Churches of Revelation, chapters 2 & 3 vii. The Glorified Body viii. The Judgement Seat of Christ ix. The Battle of Armageddon x. The New Heaven and the New Earth xi. The Bride of Christ e. You must list at least five (5) sources used for your research paper on a separate bibliography page (in addition to the six page report itself). f. Lesson 1 Introduction Revelation 1:1 3 1. The Book of Revelation is the only book in the Bible that contains a special blessing to those who read, hear and do. 2. It contains a curse to those who add to it or subtract from it. 3. The book Revelation stands in contrast to the Book of Genesis 4. the outline for the book of Revelation (Revelation 1:19) a. Chapter 1 Things Past ( things which thou hast seen ) b. Chapter 2 3 Things Present ( things which are ) c. Chapter 4 22 Things Future ( things which shall be hereafter. ) 5. The author of the book of Revelation is John the Beloved from the Isle of Patmos in 96 AD. (vs. 9) 6. He became the pastor of the church of Ephesus. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was one of his members. 7. The word revelation means unveiling. 8. Please note that the word is in the singular Revelation and not the plural. Instead of being a series of Revelations about the future, it is a revelation of Christ using prophecy as a backdrop to teach us about him. 9....he sent and signified vs. 2. The Book of Revelation was given in signs and symbols.

Lesson 2 The Salutation Revelation 1:4 8 1. Verse 4 identifies the author as John. 2. Verse 4 identifies the recipients as the seven churches which are in Asia. 3. Why were these churches selected? They could be seen from the Isle of Patmos. 4. 7 is a significant number in the Book of Revelation. It is the number of completion. 5. The salutation includes the trinity. Is...was...is to come. 6. Jesus is identified as Prophet, Priest and King. 7. John and Daniel saw the rapture. 8. Behold he cometh with clouds. Daniel 7:13 9. Verse 8 He is the beginning and the ending.

Lesson 3 Things John Saw Revelation 1:9 20 1. Three things John saw. a. Vision of the seven golden candlesticks. Vs. 12 b. Vision of the Seven Stars in his right hand. Vs. 16 c. Vision of the son of man. Verses 13 through 16. 2. The golden candlesticks are the churches. The high priest was in charge of the candlesticks. 3. The Seven Stars are the pastors of the churches. 4. His head and hairs which were snow white is used in the Bible to indicate purity. 5. The eyes of Christ are pictured as a flame of fire. Fire is a symbol of judgement. 6. Eyes, when it is God's eyes that are being referred to, are a symbol of God's omniscience; the fact that God knows everything. 7. Eyes as a flame of fire suggest that the Judgment of God is based on omniscience not ignorance. God's judgment is based on what he knows about us. 8....and his feet like unto fine brass. Brass is another symbol that is used to picture judgement. Believers are judged in two ways...consideration and Proclamation. 9....and out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sword This pictures God's word. Hebrews 4:12. The Bible is the tool the Holy Spirit uses to convict us of sin. 10.Christians sin on 3 levels...actions, thoughts and motives. 11.Those who close their minds to the word of God, open their lives to the Judgment of God.

Lesson 4 The Seven Churches of Revelation Revelation 2 and 3 1. As John looked out from the Isle of Patmos he saw seven churches. 2. God gives us a picture of the conditions that churches will be in the last days. 3. These do not represent different periods of time. How can you send a book to 7 periods of time? Verse 11. 4. There are three repeated phrases in chapters 2 and 3. a. Unto the angel of the church b. I Know Thy works c. He that hath an ear let him hear what the spirit saith unto the churches

Lesson 5 The Condition of Churches in the Last Days Revelation 2 3 What are the churches going to be like in the last days? 1. The Church of Ephesus Revelation 2:1 7 Backslidden 2. The Church of Smyrna Revelation 2: 8 11 Persecuted 3. The Church of Pergamos Revelation 2:12 17 Worldly 4. The Church of Thyatira Revelation 2:18 29 Permissive 5. The Church of Sardis Revelation 3:1 6 Immature 6. The Church of Philadelphia Revelation 3:7 13 Faithful 7. The Church of Laodicea Revelation 3:14 22 Self satisfied

Lesson 6 The Rapture Revelation 4:1 1. The word rapture is not found in the Bible. 2. The word rapture means to be caught up, carried away or snatched away. 3. The Rapture will be personal. 4. The Rapture will be imminent. 5. The Rapture will be preceded by a shout 6. The Rapture will be preceded by the voice of the archangel 7. The Rapture will be preceded by the sound of a trumpet 8. The Rapture will be immediate 9. The Holy Spirit will rapture us 10. The Dead Saved will be raptured first 11. The Alive Saved will be raptured next 12. Jesus will come as a bridegroom to meet His bride.

Lesson 7 The Glorified Body Revelation 4:1 1. Our glorified body will be like Jesus' glorified body. 2. I Corinthians 15:20 28 The order of the Resurrection a. The first fruits b....afterward, they that are Christ s at his coming c....then cometh the end. 3. Our glorified body is compared to seed. 4. Our glorified body is compared to Heavenly Bodies 5. Those who are dead now have a soul body. 6. Those who are alive at the Rapture will receive the same glorified body.

Lesson 8 Events in Heaven After the Rapture (Part 1) Revelation 4 and 5 1. There are three events that happen to Believers after the Rapture a. Events immediately following the Rapture b. The Judgment Seat of Christ c. The Marriage Supper of the Lamb 2. The key word is Worthy. 3. The key verses a. Revelation 4:11 God the Father as creator b. Revelation 5:12 Jesus as the Savior 4. The first thing we'll see after the Rapture is God the Father sitting on His throne.

Lesson 9 Events in Heaven After the Rapture (Part 2) Revelation 4 and 5 1. Next we will see 24 Elders on 24 Thrones 2. Next we will see the Holy Spirit standing before the throne. 3. We will then see four living creatures. 4. Believers will fall down and worship God. 5. God the Father holds a book in His right hand 6..A believer proclaims, Jesus is! 7. Jesus steps forward and takes the book from the Father's hand. 8. All the redeemed worship Jesus. 9. The angels join in worshipping Jesus. 10. Then all creatures, except the lost, join in praising Jesus 11. The beasts say amen and we worship Jesus for the third time.

Lesson 10 The Judgement Seat of Christ 1. This is not to determine whether you go to heaven or hell. That was determined at Salvation. 2. The Judgement Seat of Christ is to determine your rewards in heaven. 3. The time of the Judgment Seat of Christ is right after the Rapture. 4. The participants are all believers through the years. 5. The criteria for the Judgment Seat of Christ is your works on earth. 6. The challenge is to work while you can.

Lesson 11 The Antichrist Revelation 6:1 2 1. Everything that God has Satan tries to imitate. 2. The Antichrist will be revealed right after the Rapture. 3. He will be a man of war. 4. He will immediately conquer 3 European nations 5. He will then make an agreement to protect Israel. 6. He will form the Revived Roman Empire 7. For three and a half years there will be peace for Israel. 8. After three and a half years the Antichrist will turn on the Jews. 9. He will be empowered by Satan. 10. He will have the power to heal 11. He will be ultimately defeated by Jesus and his Saints.

Lesson 12 The Seal Judgements Revelation 6 1. Never forget that the tribulation period is a time of tremendous judgment upon the Earth. 2. There are three major judgments a. Seal b. Trumpet c. Vial 3. The first seal, The White Horse, represents the revealing of the Antichrist. 4. The second seal, The Red Horse, represents war and bloodshed. 5. The third seal, The Black Horse, represents famine. 6. The fourth seal, The Pale Horse, represent death. 7. The fifth seal, Souls Under the Altar, represent martyrdom of the Saints. 8. The sixth seal is nature disrupted. 9. The seventh seal is silence in heaven.

Lesson 13 Soul Winning During the Tribulation Revelation 7 1. Facts about the 144,000. a. They are Jews b. They will be on the earth during the tribulation period. c. They will be saved. d. They will be protected from the tribulation judgement. 2. The greatest period of evangelism will take place during the tribulation period. 3. Great numbers will be saved. 4. People from every nation and race will be saved. 5. They will be saved during the last half of the tribulation period. 6. How can people be saved if the Holy Spirit has been withdrawn? He will not be withdrawn. It is believers who will be withdrawn at the rapture. 7. How will people be saved during the tribulation? They must believe in Jesus Christ. There has never been another gospel.

Lesson 14 The Trumpet Judgements Revelation 8 1. Remember, God has stored up his wrath for over six thousand years. Now He unleashes it during the tribulation period. 2. The first trumpet judgement Storm of Hail and Fire. 3. The second trumpet judgement Fire in the Sea. 4. The third trumpet judgement Poison in the Rivers 5. The fourth trumpet judgment Sky Darkened.

Lesson 15 The Trumpet Judgements (continued) and the Thunder Judgements Revelation 9 and 10 1. The fifth trumpet judgment Monsters From the Pit. 2. The sixth trumpet judgment World's Largest Army. 3. John was told not to write down the 7 Thunder judgements.

Lesson 16 The Two Witnesses Revelation 11 1. The two witnesses will preach only for the first half of the tribulation. 2. They will be the only soul winners on the earth during this time. 3. Everyone who seeks to harm them will be killed. 4. They will send plagues throughout the world. 5. They will be murdered eventually by the Antichrist. 6. The world will celebrate their death. 7. They will be raised from the dead after their dead bodies lay in the streets of Jerusalem for three and a half days. 8. They will ascend to heaven. 9. The 144,000 will be saved as a result of the two witnesses.

Lesson 17 The War in Heaven Revelation 12 1. The Tribulation Period is divided into two sections of 3 ½ years each a. the Tribulation which is the first three and a half years b. the Great Tribulation which is the second three and a half years 2. the Woman in Revelation chapter 12 represents the nation of Israel. 3. the Dragon in Revelation chapter 12 represent the devil 4. The Man Child in Revelation chapter 12 represent Jesus Christ 5. The War in Heaven is between Satan and his angels and Michael and his angels. 6. After Satan loses access to heaven then all of his efforts will be concentrated on the Earth. This is known as the abomination of desolation in the Book of Daniel.

Lesson 18 The Two Beasts Revelation 13 1. There will be two human leaders who will join with Satan to form the Unholy Trinity a. Satan b. the Antichrist c. the False Prophet. 2. Satan a. fell from his place of authority. b. The authority of the Earth was given to Adam and Eve until they lost it. c. Jesus Christ has the title deed and will one day redeem it. 3. The Antichrist a. will be the political ruler b. will be empowered by Satan c. he will promote Satan worship d. he will be worshipped himself e. he will have power for 42 months f. he will persecute God's people 4. The False Prophet a. will be the religious leader b. his counterpart is the Holy Spirit c. he is a worker of miracles d. he will make an image of the Antichrist e. he is the leader that will issue the mark of the beast

Lesson 19 Six Scenes From the Tribulation Revelation 14 1. Revelation chapter 14 is another parenthetical chapter that is void of chronological significance. 2. The first scene is the Lamb and the 144,000. 3. The second scene is the Everlasting Gospel. 4. The third scene is the fall of Babylon. 5. The fourth scene is the worshippers of the Beast. 6. The fifth scene is the Dead in the Lord. 7. The sixth scene is the battle of Armageddon.

Lesson 20 The Vial Judgements Revelation 15 and 16 1. This is the last set of judgments that will take place during the tribulation period. They will all take place during the last half of the tribulation. 2. The first Vial Judgement is a Noisome and Grievous sore. 3. The second Vial Judgement is Death at Sea. 4. The third Vial Judgment is Bloody Waters. 5. The fourth Vial Judgement is Sunburn. 6. The fifth Vial Judgment is Curse of Darkness. 7. The sixth Vial Judgment is Euphrates River dried up. 8. the seventh Vial Judgement is World's Greatest Earthquake.

Lesson 21 Mystery Babylon Revelation 17 1. The first attempt by Satan to set up the Antichrist Kingdom is found in the Book of Genesis. 2. The residents of the city of Babel attempted to build a city (political Babylon) and a tower (religious Babylon) which is an attempt to set up a one world government and one world religion. 3. In the Book of Daniel, Daniel interpreted a dream by Nebuchadnezzar of a giant statue that represented the kingdoms of the world. 4. Satan's final attempt to set up the Antichrist s Kingdom will take place in Revelation 17 and 18. 5. The true church is known as the Bride of Christ whereas Mystery Babylon, the false religion system, is known as the Great Whore. 6. Mystery Babylon will be a worldwide religion. 7. It is closely associated with heads of state. 8. It will have the endorsement of the Antichrist Kingdom. 9. It is a wealthy religion. 10. It is a religion from which other religions have come. 11. It is a religion who has killed the saints of God. 12. It's religious headquarters is the city of Seven Hills Rome.

Lesson 22 The Fall of Babylon Revelation 18 1. The religious system, Mystery Babylon, has its roots in the Roman Catholic Church. 2. The Antichrist and the political Babylon will turn on the religious Babylon and destroy the city. 3. Nations where Catholicism is prevalent, it's government is corrupt. 4. Merchants have profited from the Catholic religion and most countries where Catholicism is prevalent are usually poor. 5. God tells His people to come out of her and not be deceived by this false religion. 6. The destruction of Babylon will be swift. 7. The fall of Babylon will be rejoiced by all of Heaven.

Lesson 23 The Battle of Armageddon Revelation 19 1. The religious system known as Mystery Babylon, the Mother of Harlots, will be destroyed by the political Babylon. The end of the Antichrist and his forces will culminate at a place called Armageddon. 2. The battle of Armageddon will be fought just before the Second Coming of Christ. 3. The Rapture and the Second Coming are two different events. 4. The Battle of Armageddon will be fought at Mount Megiddo, the Mount of Slaughter. It is also known as the plain of Jezreel and the plain of Esdraelon. 5. The reason for the battle of Armageddon is basically the city of Jerusalem. 6. Four armies will converge upon Israel leading to the battle of Armageddon. a. The armies from the West the Revived Roman Empire headed by the Antichrist. b. The armies from the North Russia and its allies c. The armies from the East the Asian armies d. The armies from the South Egypt and all the Arab Nations. 7. The result of the battle of Armageddon will be the annihilation of the Antichrist s forces by Jesus Christ.

Lesson 24 The Millennium Revelation 20 1. The Antichrist and the false prophet will be cast alive into hell at the end of the battle of Armageddon. 2. Satan will be imprisoned during the millennium in the bottomless pit. 3. God will set up the Millennial Kingdom. a. It will be an Earthly Kingdom. b. Believers will rule with Christ over His kingdom. c. It will be a righteous Kingdom. d. it will be a kingdom of peace. e. The Genesis curse will be lifted. 4. At the end of the Millennium, Satan will be loosed from the Bottomless Pit. 5. The Great White Throne Judgement will take place at the end of the Millennium. 6. The unsaved will be judged at this time.

Lesson 25 The New Heavens and the New Earth Revelation 21 1. The New Creation will replace the first creation. 2. Right after the Great White Throne Judgement, the first creation will be burned up. Then God will make new heavens and a new Earth. 3. The New Jerusalem will come down from heaven. 4. The New Jerusalem will be the dwelling place of the New Testament Saints and Jesus. 5. God the Father will be with the Old Testament Saints on the new Earth where the old Jerusalem used to be. 6. God will make all things new. 7. We have a description of the New Jerusalem a. The New Jerusalem will be cube shaped. b. It will have walls with 12 gates. c. It will have 12 foundations. d. The wall is made of Jasper. e. The city is pure gold. f. The gates are made of pearl. g. The street is made of gold

Lesson 26 Closing Scenes in the Book of Revelation Revelation 22 1. The first 5 verses continue the description of the New Jerusalem. Then John gives us some closing comments to the Book of Revelation. 2. There was a river in Eden and there will be a river in the New Jerusalem coming out of the Throne of God. 3. The Tree of Life was in Eden and the Tree of Life will be in the New Jerusalem. 4. The fruit of the Tree of Life is an antidote for sickness. 5. There will be no more Genesis curse on the Earth. 6. We will serve God throughout eternity. 7. We shall see his face unashamedly. 8. They'll be no need of artificial light. 9. John is commanded to seal not the sayings of this prophecy, it is for everyone. 10. Jesus gives the last invitation in the Bible, Come. 11. There is a curse on those who add to or take away from this book. 12. The Last Promise in Revelation comes from Jesus,...Surely I come quickly. 13. The Last Prayer in Revelation is given by John, Even so come Lord Jesus.
