Introduction Introduction to the Updated and Expanded Edition Why go to all the trouble of writing an expanded and updated version of The Complete Encyclopaedia of the Evidence for God? I can offer only a very brief answer: because I could, and because I must. Due to technological advances, it is now a simple thing to access the very latest breakthroughs in theo-scientific scholarship, making it possible to revamp a whole book relatively easily. This is what I mean when I say could. The reason I must do it is twofold. Firstly because the arguments being put forward by the very greatest minds that religion has to offer are still pouring forth. I wanted to summarise these ideas in a way that is easily understood by the average religious reader. Secondly, I found many deeply believed comments from religious observers and academics both thoughtful and useful, and wanted to absorb the very best of them into this book. At some point I will stop writing this book. But for now I am just enjoying the chance to share an easily understood summary of every piece of evidence for the existence of a deity that has been discovered in our majestic Universe. Stephen D. Conclusion Conclusion This encyclopaedia has set out a comprehensive summary of all the objective evidence for the existence of a deity, and has been the result of extensive research, analysis and synthesis. Having collected all the major arguments that have been proposed for the existence of God over the past two-and-a-half thousand years, they were individually researched. All those that had no objective evidence or had been conclusively refuted beyond argument were filtered out. What I have presented in this encyclopaedia is the incontrovertible evidence that remains. I hope this will be a useful resource to scholars of every religion in their ongoing struggle against the godless forces of naturalism and evidence-based reasoning. 138
