02-11-2018 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1 Mark 1:40-45 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ: A Message from Father Don Today s Gospel describes a man who is so excited and happy that he has to tell everyone he meets what has happened to him. The man with leprosy firmly believed that Jesus could cure him and begged Jesus to do so. Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand, touched the afflicted man and said, Be cured. And the man s deformities were immediately healed. Jesus showing mercy to the afflicted leper is a sign of the boundless mercy God continues to show us, even today. We may not suffer from a physical infirmity, but in our brokenness and sin, we suffer a spiritual infirmity that pulls us away from God. This week spend some time discerning this passage. Be secure in knowing that God wants to heal us. He doesn t want us to sin, but when we do, he is ready to forgive us. Though we are all flawed and broken, even though we sin, our God is ready, willing and happy to reach out and embrace us with true mercy and forgiveness. The good news is all we have to do is let him. God truly loves us in spite of all of our imperfections. Allow God s forgiveness, openness, and love inspire your actions throughout the week. ASH WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 14, 2018 Ashes will be distributed at the following Masses: 7:00am, 8:30am, 12:00 noon, 5:00pm, 7:00pm 8:30pm (Spanish) Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence. At Mass the imposition of ashes replicates an ancient penitential practice and symbolizes our dependence upon God s mercy and forgiveness. 3
