Office of Liturgy & Music St. John Holy Angels Parish 82 Possum Park Road Newark, DE 19711 M E M O R A N D U M TO: Cantors, Choir, Guitar Group, and Organists FROM: Stephen Adams, Director of Liturgy & Music DATE: February 28, 2011 RE: Lenten Liturgy Sheets 2011 The Lenten Music Liturgy Sheets are attached. The very last page has the alphabetized listing of music needed for Ash Wednesday and Lenten Sundays and a separate list for Vespers. At the end of Mass, there will be a procession out of church with cross and candles but these will move in silence rather than accompanied by music. Amy and I ask you to please make sure you pull all of your Lenten music before rehearsals. It is a good idea to have all of your music pulled at the beginning of the season in case you are needed to switch a Mass or to substitute for someone. The Kyrie will be sung at all Masses. After the Priest does the Sign of the Cross, Greeting and Introduces the Mass of the Day, he will kneel at the foot of the altar and invite all present to kneel and join in the Confiteor ( I confess ). The organist plays very quietly under the prayer of the people and ends on the first chord of the Kyrie when the Presider says May almighty God everlasting life. Amen. (New!) so that the cantor and assembly can sing the Kyrie. It is repeated ONCE (new!), it is sung together by the cantor and assembly. The people usually sing this very well, so the cantor just needs to start for them and back away from the microphone if the assembly is singing fully. During Lent we will sing the Community Mass. Please make sure during the Amen you sing three Amen s and not the Alleluia as written through the Lent season. Please sing the Eucharistic Acclamations a cappella each week of Lent including Ash Wednesday but not Palm Sunday. Organists: Intone the first line with an 8 principal stop on the organ, then the cantor will come in with the assembly, while away from the microphone. Please do not announce hymns from the hymnal during Lent. Use the purple Lenten booklet. (That is why the numbers are not listed on these Liturgy Sheets; sing from the booklet.) Dismissal of the Catechumens is sung at the 9AM HA Mass. Only the refrain. Organists: Please make sure you obtain a Presider s Book from the Sacristy before Mass, if it s not already on the organ for you. Please make sure it is for the current Mass; there are many Presider s Books for Lenten Masses due to Scrutinites, RCIA Rites, etc. Thank you! A reminder there is a rehearsal on Monday, March 7, at 6:30pm at Holy Angels. We will go over ALL Lenten Music and Lenten liturgical actions. If you cannot make it, please schedule a time with Steve to rehearse your weekend(s). Thank you! THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO AND BRING TO OUR PARISH COMMUNITY! YOU ARE THE BEST GROUP TO WORK WITH!
