St. Alban s Altar Guild Manual F. Home Communion Kit Preparation When requested, a LEM takes communion to some of our shut-ins. Cathy Knowles coordinates this service. The Altar Guild should prepare the kits so that they are ready for the 8:15AM service on that Sunday, although not all the kits will be sent out at 8:15AM. There are four kits kept in the bottom drawer marked Home Communion. Each contains: 1 small Chalice 1 small Bread Box 1 bottle for wine. The LEM will also need: 1 small Corporal, and 1 small purificator. These are in the Sleepy Hollow drawer. 1 Kleenex (Priest will use to wipe the rim of the Chalice or to wipe up spills. A pink report form (below) also goes in the kit. These are in the Home Communion drawer (bottom drawer) To prepare: Remove the wine bottle and fill 1 inch full with unconsecrated wine. Put cork in the bottle. Put three wafers in the Bread Box These will be placed on the right side of the Credence table to be consecrated at the 8:15AM Sunday service The Empty kits with a clean Corporal and Purificator inside the kit should be placed on the right side of the retable behind the Altar, The Priest will complete the kit and give the kit to the assigned LEM during the service. Make sure each kit has been labeled indicating the recipient and person who will be delivering the kit. The LEMs may not clean up the kits, but return them to the church, either in the narthex mailbox, or at best, in the sacristy. When found, they should be emptied. REMEMBER that these have held consecrated elements so rinse in the piscina before washing and returning to storage. The washed bottles can be put to dry on the pegs on the counter. No wet bottles in the kit. Extra wafers can be put in the reserve. Linens: Do not use the Sleepy Hollow linens (have one cross design at hem). Any other design is suitable for Home Communion use.
