The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. THE LORD S SUPPER Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right for us to give thanks and praise. With joy we praise you, gracious God, for you created heaven and earth, made us in your image, and kept covenant with us, even when we fell into sin. We give you thanks for Jesus Christ, our Lord, who by his life, death, and resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore we praise and thank you and sing with your people everywhere: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God almighty, All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea! Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty, God in three persons, blessed Trinity! Institution and Preparation Among friends, gathered round a table, Jesus took bread, and broke it, and said, This is my body given for you. Later, he took a cup of wine and said, This is the new covenant with God made possible because of my death. Take it, all of you, to remember me. So we remember him, saying, together: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. Lord our God, send your Holy Spirit so that this bread and cup may be for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. May we and all your saints be united with Christ and remain faithful in hope and love. Gather your whole church, O Lord, into the glory of your kingdom. * Passing of the Peace Thanks be to God: Christ makes us one. The peace of Christ be with you all. And also with you. (God has given us his peace and we are invited to offer that peace to one another. Many people do this by shaking hands, but if for any reason you would rather not shake hands, you are encouraged to pass the peace with a smile and a nod; as you say, The peace of Christ be with you. )

Welcome to the Table Congregation of Jesus Christ, the Lord has prepared his table for all who love him and trust in him alone for their salvation. All who are truly sorry for their sins, who sincerely believe in the Lord Jesus as their Savior, and who desire to live in obedience to him as Lord are now invited to come with gladness to the table of the Lord. The gifts of God are for the people of God. Anthem: At the Table of the World At the table of the world, some have plenty, some have none. At the table of our God, all are plentifully fed. Blow among us, Spirit of God, fill us with your courage and care! Hurricane and Breath, take us on a journey of love! At the table of the world, some have honor, some have scorn. At the table of our God, all are welcomed and acclaimed. Set the table of our God in the Church and in the world, Till the children, fed and loved, taste and see that life is good. Carl Johengen Anthem: Just as I Am Bob Chilcott Just as I am, without one plea but that thy blood was shed for me, And that thou bid st me come to thee, O Lamb of God, I come. Just as I am, though tossed about with many a conflict, many a doubt, Fightings within and fears without, O Lamb of God, I come. Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind; sight, riches, healing of the mind, Yea, all I need, in thee to find, O Lamb of God, I come. Just as I am, thou wilt receive, wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve, Because thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come. Just as I am (thy love unknown has broken every barrier down); Now to be thine, yea, thine alone, O Lamb of God, I come. Just as I am, of that free love the breadth, length, depth, and height to prove, Here for a season, then above, O Lamb of God, I come. Prayer: Lord, you have put gladness in our hearts; you have satisfied our hunger with good things. In giving all, you have not withheld from us your own dear Son. How can we withhold anything from you, our Lord and our God? Renew us day by day with the gift of your Spirit that we may give ourselves completely to your service and walk with joy in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

* Hymn of Response: Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven #571:1-4 (Benevolence offering taken during this song) * Benediction * Doxology: Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven #571:5 Angels, help us to adore him; you behold him face to face. Sun and moon, bow down before him, dwellers all in time and space. Alleluia, alleluia! Praise with us the God of grace! Amen. * Postlude: All Glory Be to God on High [#542] Max Reger

MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS Today ADULT EDUCATION: Christian Education in the Age of Choice Presenter: Dr. Mark Krommendyk, Principal, Grand Rapids Christian Elementary School Today s K-12 education landscape is primarily made up of three types of schools: local public schools, public schools of choice, and private religious schools. School choice is polarizing and it is political. It is also well researched. What is research saying about the impact of school choice and religious schooling? How is choice impacting students, families, and communities? You may be surprised. Be prepared to have opinions challenged, assumptions questioned, and myths dispelled.

Next Sunday ADULT EDUCATION: Unlocking Poverty from Its Box Presenter: Carol Bremer-Bennett. World Renew works with churches to change the story of communities from poverty to flourishing. But what is poverty? And how can we be sure that we are getting at the root causes so that we can have long-term impact? Come and learn about the tiny work that started in a CRC basement and now has grown into one of the most respected Disaster Response and Community Development organizations in the world. FISH FOR MY PEOPLE: The next date for Calvin Church participation in the Fish program is Wednesday, November 8. Our volunteers are appreciated and can expect to receive a call on Tuesday, November 7 if their services are needed. It would be helpful if you let Ken Lobbes know if you will not be available on November 8. CANCER SUPPORT GROUP meetings are held for one hour at 4:00 PM the second Wednesday of each month (year round) in the church office conference room. Patients, and their caregivers, who are dealing in any way with the effects of cancer are invited to attend. For additional information call the church office at 451-8467 or Mr. Hecker at 451-8855. FAMILY SUPPER: A light supper will be provided at church on November 8 for adults and their children, especially those involved in Wednesday evening programming. A donation from each family will cover the cost of the meal. Districts 5 and 6 will serve food from 5:00-6:30, and provide nursery care from 5:30-7:00. LECTIO DIVINA SMALL GROUP: We will meet next week Sunday, November 12, from 11:45-12:15 in the lounge to spend time with God s word. All are welcome. The sign-up board is near the kitchen. SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES IN 2018: You are invited to participate in a year of focusing on the classic Christian spiritual disciplines at Calvin Church! REQUESTED ANNOUNCEMENTS Caring Well Conference: On Saturday, November 11 from 8:00 AM 4:00 PM. Calvin College is hosting a one-day conference at the Prince Center sharing how we can care well for people while holding to a biblical sexual ethic. More information and registration can be found at https://caringwell.org/conference/ Tax Return Volunteers: Will you help lower-income families receive important tax credits and refunds? Tax credits reduce poverty, promote work, improve the school performance of children, and help our neighbors pay important bills or generate savings. We ll provide the free training, materials, equipment, and support that you need to be an IRS-certified, volunteer tax preparer. Training will take place in December or January. A team of volunteers from Oakdale Neighbors will prepare tax returns on Thursday afternoons and evenings in February and March.
