St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, S.C. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was born August 28, 1774 in New York City and died January 4, 1821. She was introduced to Catholicism in Italy after her husband died. Following her conversion, she founded a Catholic school for girls that established the Catholic parochial school system in the United States. St. John Neumann 1811 1860 He was close to the sick; he was at home with the poor; he was a friend to sinners. And today he is the honor of all immigrants, and from the viewpoint of the Beatitudes the symbol of Christian success. Canonization Homily Pope Paul I June 19, 1977 St. John Neumann was born March 28, 1811 in Bohemia and died January 5, 1860. He immigrated to the United States in 1836, where he became the fourth bishop of Philadelphia in 1852. He is the first U.S. bishop to be canonized, and he founded the first Catholic diocesan school system in the United States. It is joy which invites us. Press forward and fear nothing. St. Katherine Drexel, S.B.S. St. Katherine Drexel was born November 26, 1858 in Philadelphia and died on March 3, 1955. She is the only Catholic saint to be born a citizen of the United States. Originally an heiress, she gave up her money to serve od and others. ith her inheritance, she paid to build the St. Benedict the Moor School in St. Augustine, Florida. Canonization Homily Pope Benedict XI October 11, 2009 St. Damien de euster was born January 3, 1840 in Belgium and died April 15, 1889. He ministered from 1873 until 1889 in the Kingdom of Hawaii to people who had leprosy. After ministering to the leper colony in Moloka i for 16 years, he died of leprosy. St. Mother Théodore uérin 1798 1856 Mother Théodore uérin was always open for the missions the Church entrusted to her, and she found the strength in the Eucharist, in prayer and in an infinite trust in Divine Providence. Canonization Homily Pope Benedict XI October 15, 2006 Mother Théodore uérin was born October 2, 1798 in France and died May 14, 1856 in Indiana. She founded a congregation of Catholic nuns in Indiana and opened a school for young women which would eventually become a college. She is known for her advancement of education and establishing parish schools throughout Illinois and Indiana. She also established two orphanages and free pharmacies. St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, M.S.C. St. Frances Xavier Cabrini was born July 15, 1850 in Lombardy and died December 22, 1917 in Chicago. She was an Italian-American sister who founded a missionary order that was a major support system for Italian immigrants in America. She is the first naturalized citizen of the U.S. to be canonized.
