THIS AND THAT Today I wish to thank Sr. Elizabeth Lynch for serving as the Coordinator of our parish Religious Education program since last January. Before retiring Sr. Elizabeth had served our parish in that very same position. And as many of you know, Sr. Elizabeth was the principal of St. Denis School for many years. Her professional skills and calm demeanor were a great blessing to our program this year. She is currently helping to interview candidates to become our new religious education coordinator for next year. May God reward you for your goodness to St. Denis! Thanks as well to our catechists who bring the Lord closer to their students by their love and example. Teaching, giving, spreading the Good News, sharing your gifts with our children and their families. You are fantastic! May God reward you for your goodness to St. Denis! Religious Education is a major component of our parish mission. Not only do we have a responsibility to teach our faith to the young but a good Religious Education program reaches out to those on the edge of parish life and brings them to the center. Another way of saying this is that it helps to create a sense of community. Since God is a community of persons; Father, Son, and Spirit, we are called to be persons of community as well. The biblical Jesus does spend forty days in the desert but beyond that is a person of community. He is not a hermit or recluse but one who was constantly with and for others. Amidst the uncountable number of prayers that you can find in print or on line, there is one prayer that comes from Jesus, the Lord s Prayer. It tells us who we are: God s children. It tells us where we are going: heaven. It tells us how we will get there: by forgiving others as we are forgiven ourselves. This is not the prayer of a solitary individual but the prayer of God s vast 2 family. A family is a community of persons. Jesus s prayer is a prayer of community. Our Religious Education efforts are all about enfleshing the Lord s Prayer in the here and now. Thanks again to all who make it so. May God bless us all, Fr. Ted Come to the Ball Game! St. Denis parish community supports the US Conference of Catholic Bishops Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. Our employees and our volunteers have completed background checks and have attended a VIR- TUS training session. We are involved in the VIRTUS program with its ongoing instruction for ALL EMPLOYEES over 18 years of age, and volunteers in a position of trust, that have regular contact with those most vulnerable to abuse. This valuable component helps keep us aware of child abuse. Once a month, 51 of us at St. Denis are asked to read a short article online and choose a response to indicate understanding of the information, helping us to assure a safe environment for all. PLEASE, complete your requirement each and every month, January through December, even if you are not actively involved in your ministry during a particular month. Your dedication and hard work are noted, and your cooperation is greatly respected. The program often sends a reminder notice, and the availability of the lesson is AL- WAYS noted on the parish calendar in the bulletin at the beginning of each month. To those who need no reminder and to those who sometimes need a gentle nudge your efforts may help to protect someone from this reprehensible abuse. What a blessing you are to this community of believers! 3 Terri Bearson, Dan Curley, Elida Diaz, Thomas Ewers, John Klages, Tom Klocek, Dave Krause, William Mayer, Ruth Medina, Jack Paha, Don Reidy, Jeanne Reidy, Richard Skocz, Madeline Tatgenhorst, Bryon Weaver, Natalie Wittmacher, Lord, hold our military men and women in your loving hands. Dannielle Carroll Miguel Cruz Jr. Paul Kennedy John Klaer Patrick Leamy Stephen Lynch Michael Miller Drake O Connor De Los Rios Stephen Solon Stephen Wisinski Antonio Worthy Jr. St. Denis has received two additional donations toward the cost of replacing the burner on the church boiler. Please offer a prayer of thanksgiving for these two generous parishioners. Their giving spirit, as well as their time and treasure, is greatly appreciated by our entire community. HELPING HANDS and FOOD PANTRY Our Food Pantry and Helping Hands ministry was able, once again, to assist many families and individuals this month as well as at Easter time. That would not be possible without the very generous donations we receive each month. Thank you! We are so proud of our St. Denis community. Your care, concern and contributions are sure signs of God s love passed on to those who are in need at this time. Please know that you are prayed for and deeply appreciated. The collection of food and paper goods will continue the first full weekend throughout the summer. There are a couple of special requests..laundry soap and gluten free food items. It, when you shop, these just might jump off the shelf at you, we d be glad to pass them on. Again, thank you.
