We set aside three times each year to emphasize our community and getting to know one another by name. Frequency: one Mass per month Time required: 20 minutes before Mass Lay Leader contact: Available Sunday Hospitality Our families and groups who host hospitality on Sundays after Mass have the easiest (and best) job on Sundays: feeding the hungry! We serve coffee, juice, and donuts nearly every Sunday in Kohler Hall. We welcome individuals and family members to plate donuts, make coffee/juice, and do a little clean-up. Donuts are delivered to the Gather Space and just need to be put out on plates. It is a simple and thank-filled ministry (ask the children about their favorite part of Sunday and they will smile and say donuts after Mass! ) Frequency: Weekly opportunity. Councils and Leadership Welcoming Ministries Staff Leader: Fr. These councils and teams are appointed by the Pastor and, together serve the him in key areas of need. If you are interested in the leadership opportunity please contact Fr. Cory. New Member Mentor Family/Individual This team reaches out to our new parishioners and welcomes them to our community. The mentor family/individual answers questions, provides information about our events, and encourages involvement in the parish. Names and contact information are provided by the lay leader. Frequency: As needed, but generally one new family needs a mentor per month Time required: varies per phone call; attends the New Member Brunch twice/year. Finance Council Provides counsel on financial outlook of the parish community. Parish Council Provides Fr. Cory and the staff both vision and input on the pastoral needs of the parish. Trustees Two Trustees provide consultation to Fr. Cory and participate as officers of the Civil Corporation which is registered with the State. New Member Brunch Team New Member Brunch Team: Use your culinary skills to welcome our new members through cooking and baking! We invite our new (and long-time) parishioners to mix and mingle over brunch after Mass. Frequency: twice a year, Spring and Fall. Time required: 2 hrs. grocery shopping, 4 hrs. for cooking, baking and service at the brunch. Frequency: Monthly meetings for each of the councils are from September through May, plus planned events where council members represent parish leadership. Time Requirement: Monthly Meetings typically are typically 90 minutes. Additional commitments and activities may range from 1 to 5 hours per month. Expectations of All Volunteers All Volunteers who work with children and vulnerable adults are required to complete the Essential Three: Virtus Training, Background Check and Code of Conduct. New volunteers can complete the process for all three requirements online. Current Volunteers who completed the essential three before 6/30/2008 will need retraining and rechecking as well as signing a new code of contact, all online. Wedding Mentor Couples Meet with couples preparing for marriage to administer and interpret the premarital survey. Frequency: as needed. Time Required: 3 5 hrs. per couple. Need: 2 openings. Funeral Luncheon Help the families and friends of the deceased feel the compassion and love extended to them by the members of the parish. Volunteers coordinate, provide and serve food after funerals. We appreciate help with calling volunteers, setting up, serving and clean up after luncheons Frequency: As needed Time Required: Varies Prayer Shawl Ministry - This joy -filled crowd makes prayer shawls for people in need of support. Rosary Makers The rosary is a beautiful and powerful prayer. Over the years, this group has donated over 40,000 rosaries to St Jude, The Archdiocese, United Hospitals and at missions throughout the world. Sewing Ministry Volunteer This ministry is for anyone who loves to sew. Sew for the needy: hats for the homeless, baby clothes for Women s Life Care Center, and other prenatal programs. This community building and fund raising event is one of the most significant social events of the parish. The committee members plan and carry out annual catered dinner and auction. Frequency: Annual event. Time required: 1 ½ hrs. monthly meeting, weekly the month before the event. 4 5 hrs. for set up the day before event, 8 10 hrs. the day of the event. Cornfest Committee Members and Volunteers Cornfest is one of Mahtomedi s main events! We invite people from the whole community to join in this family friendly fun with great food, entertainment, and activities for all ages. As a committee member or volunteer, you get to plan and carry out this parish community celebration. Frequency: Annual event on the 2 nd Saturday of September. Time required: Monthly meetings from April July, 2 4 hr. weekly meetings beginning in August up to the event. 4 to 8 hrs. set-up on Friday before the event, 8 to 10 hrs. on the day of Cornfest. This is a great opportunity for the whole family. There are 2 shifts with about 8-10 people per shift. The first shift (1:30-3:30) prepares the meal. The second shift (3:30-5:30) serves the meal in a buffet line, and clean-up is done by the Dorothy Day staff. If you would like to work both shifts you can. Frequency: Once a month or as your schedule permits. Time required: 2 to 4 hours Creation Care Team - In the first week on the job, Pope Francis called on the faithful to be "protectors of creation, protectors of God's plan inscribed in nature, protectors of one another and of the environment." If you would like to support our parish community as it acts on Pope Francis' call, join us! Frequency: periodic meetings, 1-2 events a year. Time required: flexible. Bloodmobile Volunteer - Each year, St. Jude s conducts a blood drive to provide lifesaving support in conjunction with the Red Cross. We need volunteers to make phone calls, serve snacks, greet donors and/or drive donations to the Red Cross. Frequency: Once per year. Lectors help them receive that Word by proclaiming the first two readings and the Prayers of the Faithful at each Sunday Mass and on Holy Days on a rotating schedule. We provide training and a Workbook with all the readings for each Mass to use for meditation and practice. Frequency: Approximately, one mass every 3 months. Time required: 30 min. training, Prep 30 60 min before mass, and reading during Masses. Children s Liturgy of the Word Help children in grades K-4 understand and engage with the Sunday readings during weekend Masses all year round. Frequency: once per week on Sundays during 9:00 or 11:00 a.m. Masses Time required: ½ hr. preparation and ½ hr. leading during Mass time. Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion - Distribute Communion at Mass on a rotating schedule. Training is provided. Frequency: 1 month every 3 months. Time required: 45 min training, serving at mass. Altar Server - Serve a scheduled Mass and assist Father as needed on a rotating schedule. Going into 5th grade & up. Training is provided. Frequency: One Mass time assigned for a month every 3 months. Time required: 1 hr., 15 min. Usher - Welcome worshippers and assist with other needs before, during and after weekend Masses. Our students thrive with our small class sizes and individualized attention. We are 100% dedicated to a nurturing environment and Christ centered. Weekly Mass puts Jesus at the center of our students' lives. The school is in need of volunteers to help the Administrative Assistant with copying, collating, answering phones and other basic office duties. Frequency: Once a week. Family Faith Formation (PreK 7 th grade) Catechists There are four pillars of Faith Formation: Proclamation of the Gospel, prayer and worship, service, and building community. St. Jude Discovery Center - Lake Area Discovery Center s partnership with St. Jude of the Lake School provides a unique opportunity to buddy with students in the elementary school and benefit from their wonderful facilities. One other unique aspect of this site is the partnership with Coventry Senior Living Center, through which the children have a chance to develop ongoing relationships with Senior Citizens. Within this mission, it is our responsibility to study and learn about Christ and His Church. Then we are to teach and share with others. Adult School of Prayer Are you passionate about your Catholic faith and want to provide opportunities for adults to grow in prayer, knowledge and as a disciple of Christ? Be part of the team to schedule events, plan and make them happen! Frequency: 1 2 meetings per month when planning an event. Time required: varies, meetings 1 1-1/2 hrs., 1 3 hrs./ week prep time during events. Need: 1 to 2 openings. Worship Environment - Create a visual environment for worship according to the liturgical season. Anyone interested in flower arrangement, plant care, sewing, or design is welcome. Frequency: 10 12 events/changes each liturgical year. Time required: 1 4 hours per liturgical season. Plants and Flowers Volunteer - Maintain flowers and greenery in the worship and gathering spaces. Frequency: weekly and seasonal. Time required: 2 hrs. per week during ordinary time, 3 4 hrs. during Christmas & Easter. Liturgical Sewing Ministry - Sew banners, altar cloths, etc. Frequency: as needed. Time required: varies. Bible Study Are you passionate about your Catholic faith and want to lead adults in bible studies or small groups? This ministry will provide the opportunity to lead fellow adult parishioners in bible study or small groups. We provide facilitator materials as well as support for new leaders. Frequency: weekly during bible study series. Time required: prep 1 hr. and the bible study class is 1-1/2 hrs. They help the faithful join together in prayer to give glory to God. The Music Ministry of St. Jude of the Lake is a vibrant, prayerful and dedicated group of talented individuals. Choir Members The voices of the choir lead and support the congregation in song and music at Sunday Mass September-May. Frequency: once a week during Mass, 1 rehearsal a week. Time required: 1 ½ hr. per Mass during Ordinary Time, 3 hrs. during seasonal liturgies, 1 ½ hrs. rehearsal. Cantor - Lead sung prayer at parish liturgies. Audition required. Frequency: One rehearsal and sing at one Mass each week. Time required: 1 ½ hr. per Mass during Ordinary Time, 3 hrs. during seasonal liturgies. Instrumentalist - Attend rehearsals and play an instrument at parish liturgies. Audition required. Frequency: One rehearsal and play at one Mass each week. Our Lord, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament, is adored and worshipped. Spend time in Church praying before the Blessed Sacrament. Frequency: First Thursday of each month and every Thursday during Advent and Lent. Time Required: minimum of ½ hour. Cenacle Prayer - Feel called to pray for others and have a support group for your own faith journey? Please join us! We are part of the Marian Movement of Priests. Pray as a group or at home as requested through the parish prayer chain. Frequency: meet weekly on Wednesdays, pray daily. Time Required: 1 ½ hrs. per week. Prayer Service Ministry This ministry provides a communion prayer service when the parish priest is unavailable or when a priest cannot be secured to offer Mass at the 9 AM daily Mass time. The prayer service leader needs to be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, will lead prayer, reads the Gospel after the first reading and the responsorial Psalm is read. Then will read a reflection on the Gospel from a Catholic source. Training and resources are available for both the prayer service format and to become a Eucharistic Minister. Frequency: Once every 6 to 8 weeks. Time Required: The time commitment 1 hour to prepare the gospel reflection and intentions. 8 9
