Disciples Responders to the Light
Disciples: Curiosity and the Desire to Learn Jesus initiates the encounter. He sees the hurting. No one is lost in the crowd. He knows each of us and what our needs are. Disciples want to know who is to blame! They believe that there are only 2 reasons for his blindness. He or his parents sinned. Jesus says Neither! Young Man Blind from Birth
Disciples: Curiosity and the Desire to Learn Jesus says that this is an opportunity to show God s power, grace, and healing. Soli Deo Gloria! With God all things are possible! Matthew 19:26 We need to see the Light of the World!
Responders to the Light Man who was Healed
Man Who Was Blind: Grew in Belief and Faith He responded in OBEDIENCE. Jesus made a mixture of spit and soil to put on his eyelids and sent him to wash it off in the Pool of Siloam. The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. Genesis 2:7 The first Creation was good but incomplete. Jesus is bringing the New Creation!
Man Who Was Blind: Growing Belief and Faith I went! I washed! I saw! After being healed, the man tells his neighbors, his parents, and the Pharisees. He responded in TRUTHFULNESS. He responded in BRAVERY. He calls Jesus a man (verse 11) a prophet (verse 17) man of God (verse 33) Son of Man (verses 35-38)
Responders to the Light Neighbors
Neighbors: Astonishment and Doubt Neighbors questioned: 1. Is the sighted man the blind beggar? 2. How were your eyes opened? 3. Where is this Healer? I am the man! They take him to the Pharisees!
Responders to the Light Parents
Parents: Fear The Pharisees seek any evidence to get rid of Jesus, so they threaten the parents by questioning them. Fear Fear Parents cautiously admit that he is their son and he has been blind from birth, but they don t know how he was healed nor who did it.
Parents: Fear Fear Fear of Excommunication Banishment from Synagogue and Jewish life for life or for a shorter period of time! This is humiliation and being cut off from family, friends, and God maybe forever! The Pharisees may cast them out but Jesus would never. whoever comes to me I will never drive away. John 6:37
Responders Pharisees to the Light
Pharisees: Fear, Anger, and Disbelief The Religious Leaders seek evidence to get rid of Jesus. Some Pharisees are angry at Jesus healing on the Sabbath. Some Pharisees don t believe a sinner could do miracles. Their skepticism and disbelief is based on Jesus popularity. They fear losing power and control. They are blind! They become divided.
Pharisees: Fear, Anger, and Disbelief Perfect love casts out fears. 1 John 4:18 ESV The Pharisees didn t cast out fears but created and enhanced them because they refused to understand. They were blind! The man is casted out of the Temple! He is casted into the Light and found by the Lord of the Temple!
Pharisees: Fear, Anger, and Disbelief Jesus is the Light of the World! Jesus is the blinding light for those who respond that they see and are without sin. Jesus is the saving Light that gives sight to those who respond by proclaiming their blindness and sin.
