Religious Education San Felipe de Neri Music Ministry Religious Education students and family members, have you ever considered becoming part of the San Felipe de Neri Music Ministry? I know we have Youth Group and Confirmation students with musical talents and skills who would be an asset to our Music Ministry. If you have any questions or would like to join the Music Ministry contact Erick Martinez at emartinez@sanfelipedeneri.org. The Archdiocese of Santa Fe Comprehensive Model of Youth Ministry The most effective catechetical programs for adolescents are integrated into a comprehensive program of pastoral ministry for youth that includes catechesis, community life, evangelization, justice and service, leadership development, pastoral care, prayer and worship. The Archdiocese of Santa Fe has a Comprehensive Model for Youth Ministry which journeys with our young people in High School and their preparation for Confirmation. The model was developed by a collaborative team and follows the documents, policies & guidelines articulated by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The purpose of the model is to ensure that young people not only receive the Sacrament of Confirmation but also continue their faith formation by staying active in the Catholic faith. 1 st Year Confirmation is the Learner Phase, 2 nd Year Confirmation is the Disciple in Training Phase with the Youth Group being the 3 rd Phase, Disciple in Ministry. The Disciple in Ministry/Youth Group needs to grow and develop here at San Felipe. Realize that you have an important role as a member of the Mother Church of Albuquerque as Father Pavlak says, a church which is historically significant to the City of Albuquerque. So I invite to join the San Felipe de Neri Youth Group. We meet on Monday evening from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm because you will make a positive impact for our church as Disciples in Ministry.

Until Further Notice DUE TO THE SEVERE COLD AND FLU SEASON: We will not be offering the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ during Holy Communion. Also, the Archdiocese of Santa Fe Officials have asked us to refrain from the following: 1) Holding hands during the praying of the Our father. 2) Shaking hands during the sign of peace; a simple nod and smile will suffice for now. 3) Shaking hands before or, after Mass. 4) If you are ill, PLEASE stay home, get rest and know your obligation for the week has been met. Finally, please do not be offended if folks adhere strictly to these suggested guidelines. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Fr. Andy Pavlak, Pastor San Felipe de Neri Church Dated: January 19,2018 NEWS FROM THE GIFT SHOP In celebration of the Feast of Saint Blasé Saturday February 3rd, we will have Our Lady of Guadalupe Candle on sale for only $2.00! The candle is 2 1/2 x 6, a raised image of our Blessed Mother in deep red color. Monday thru Saturday 9:00am to 4:30pm to get yours. One of the most difficult duties of a disciple is to follow the command of Jesus to spread the gospel to all nations. (Lk 24:47, Mk 116:15, Mt 28:19) I think one reason may be that we don't feel we have the authority to tell someone else what to believe. Most of us don't think we know the gospel well enough to preach it. The gospel this Sunday mentions twice that Jesus taught with more authority than any of religious leaders of Israel. So how can we get such authority? First, Jesus didn't threaten people with thunderbolts and lightning. He certainly didn't impress people by saying what they wanted to hear. He spoke the truth that he heard from his Father. His two main actions in his ministry were curing and forgiving people. Since the Jews thought sickness was a punishment for sins, by curing the sick and forgiving sins, Jesus showed that he got authority from his Father. How do we get that authority?" We get it from the Holy Spirit, in Baptism and Confirmation. And like an athlete who has to work-out and practice to be any good, we still need to grow in that authority. One way is to read the scriptures and pray with them, so that we get to know God through his Word and begin to listen to him in our prayers. We can consciously decide to see God in other people, not just those we love, but everyone, even the ones who annoy us. And of course, the Eucharist and other sacraments strengthen God's life in us. You'll know you have that authority when you can talk about your faith with confidence instead of hesitation, because you will be Please join Sacred Heart Church for a 2-Day Mini-Retreat with FR. GOD IS GOD God does not lord divine authority over us, even though God is Lord of heaven and earth. God wants what is best for all of humanity and for all of creation. God desires that we live for God and for others. Jesus teaches as "one having authority and not as the scribes," because Jesus is the source of whatever authority the scribes had, whether they carried out their authority well or not. Those who heard Jesus speak were in the presence of the very truth of God's love. There is no greater authority than this. There is more, however. We are given free will, and may choose to live as God desires, or to walk away from the path of holiness. The Israelites to whom Moses spoke had failed to live God's law of love in the past, and recognized their need for someone to speak the words of the Lord to them. In the simplest of terms, they understood that God is God, and that they were not God.
