هب Lesson 12: Hud 1-123 - Yusuf 1-52 PART-A HUD 1-24 السالم عليمك ورمة هللا و رباكته What is the purpose of fasting? Is it to keep us hungry and thirsty? Then what is it? Draw closer to Allah Have your sins forgiven. This is an act of worship which is done in obedience to Allah سبانه و تعالى in surrender to Him And the objective of fasting shouldn't just be to deprive yourself of food and drink, it s much more than that, right? Like you said it is to draw closer to Allah, so when you were doing سور this morning, what was your intention? Huh? Okay, to fast for the sake of Allah! Because remember that when we do a good deed, we have to expect reward from Allah also: ايمان ا واتساب ا. Do with,ايمان with faith in Allah, and also with,اتساب expecting reward from Allah alone. And the fast is not just an exercise of abstaining from food and drink because remember the Prophet also said that the one who does not refrain from ill speech and lying and such things while fasting ﷺ then Allah has no need of him being hungry and thirsty. So keep a check on your tongue, not just what is going in the mouth, but what is coming out as well, okay? In sha Allah. And likewise, just as we are concerned about inside, meaning our stomach, okay? We also need to be concerned about what's inside, meaning our heart and mind because there are levels of fasting. One level is of just refraining from food and drink, and then there is a higher level also, of refraining from sins. So that is something that in sha Allah we should focus on. All right. Let's begin Juzz number twelve.

1: In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. ي د ن ف ي صه ل ت ه م ل ه مت يت ه ث ي..Alif, Lam, Ra. [This is] a Book ال كهت ب م ه ي ي هب خ whose verses are perfected and then presented in detail from [the One who is] Wise and Acquainted. 2: [Through a messenger, saying], "Do not worship except Allah. Indeed, I am to you from Him a warner and a bringer of good tidings," 3: And [saying], "Seek forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him, [and] He will let you enjoy a good provision for a specified term and give every doer of favor His favor. But if you turn away, then indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a great Day. هن ا تغ هف وا ر ي مك Lord..Seek forgiveness from your و المدهلل journey: Hasan al-basri, he once hired a porter and he heard him saying the entire length of the and.استغفرهلل So Hasan al-basri, eventually he asked him that what is the matter with you; how come you keep saying either المدهلل or?استغفرهلل Don't you say anything else? So he said that I have learnt half of the Quran and I've come to learn that the servant is between two matters; either he is enjoying a blessing that has come to him from Allah and for that gratitude is due, and this is why I say,المدهلل or.استغفرهلل is due, and so I say استغفار the servant is in the state of having disobeyed his Lord, for which So Hasan al-basri, he said to himself, This porter is more sensible than you. Because this is the reality that either we are enjoying the gifts of Allah سبانه و تعالى for which all the time we need to be grateful to Him so,المدهلل or we have done something wrong for which we need to beg forgiveness from Him so.استغفرهلل And when a person seeks forgiveness from Allah, then what happens? سن س ي م ى. ي م جل ها ل ع ت ي ي ي ته مك Then Allah will let you enjoy a good provision for a specified term and give every doer of favor His favor. Meaning for,استغفار a person receives benefits even in this life. 4: To Allah is your return, and He is over all things competent." Page 2

ي ي ي ي ي 5: Unquestionably, they the disbelievers turn away their breasts to hide themselves from Him. They turn away in order to hide themselves from him, meaning from the Prophet ﷺ in order to not listen to him. When he speaks to them, when he recites the Quran to them, what is the reaction of some people? They turn away so that they don't even have to listen to what he's telling them..unquestionably, [even] when they cover themselves in their clothing, Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare. Indeed He is knowing of that which is within the hearts of people. So the fact is that even if a person hides from another, he can never ever hide from Allah. 6: ر هض ها ل ع هللاه هرز ق ه م ه م دا ي ة ه ف ال Allah is its provision.... ل س تق ي ه و س ت د عه storage. هبي. ه ف كهت ب..And there is no creature on Earth, but that upon و.And He knows its place of dwelling and its place of و register..all is in a clear ك Every creature, Allah is the one who provides for it. Just think about the uncountable,مخلوق the uncountable creation of Allah سبانه و تعالى that just lives on this earth. If we tried counting the bugs which are in our house even, we would not be able to do that. But every single creature, every bird that flies, every ant that crawls, every sheep, every goat, every single animal, who is its provider? Every squirrel that runs back and forth, who is its provider? Allah is its Provider. And what is amazing is that each creature has its own unique needs, has its own unique food. If you give the food of a cat to a squirrel, it will never eat it. But what do we see, that Allah provides for every single creation no matter where in this world it lives, Allah provides for every single creation. And He knows its place of dwelling and also its place of storage; meaning Allah knows where each creature lives while it is alive, where its unique address is and when it moves from one location to the other also, when it migrates from one place to the other also, then Allah still knows where its place of abode is. Because we see that people move from one home to another, even animals; they move, birds; they move, they shift constantly, they re constantly migrating, and who knows where exactly every creature is? Allah Knows. And He also knows its place of storage; meaning where every creature dies and where its body ends up and where it decays and where the bones end up, Allah knows about the end of every single creature, and He doesn't just know about it but: هبي ي ه ف كهت ب.لو مفوظ It is all recorded. Where? In a clear register. And what is this clear register? The Imagine, Allah knows about it and He has also had every detail of this universe recorded with Himself. ك Page 3

What we learn in this آية is about Allah و تعالى s سبانه Knowledge. His complete and comprehensive knowledge that there is nothing except that Allah is aware of it. He is the One who knows where each creature is going, where its food lies. He is the One who has provided for it its provision, and then He has also given its ability to go and find its provision and benefit from it. And this is why the Prophet ﷺ said that: If you relied upon Allah like the creation relies, then you would be like the birds who go out of their homes empty stomach every morning. and then what happens when they return?..they are full-bellied in the evening. The Prophet ﷺ also said that: Were the son of Adam run from his provision the way he runs from death. Do people hide from death? Do people try to escape death? Avoid death? Yes, all the time, we're trying to avoid death..so if the son of Adam were to run from his provision. [from his money, from his food].the way he runs from death, his provision would reach him just as death would reach him. Meaning there is no avoiding the provision that Allah has decreed for His servants. 7: And it is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days - and His Throne had been upon water -.. Meaning even before Allah created the sky and the earth, what existed? Water! And what was above this water? Allah s Throne. Abdullah Ibn Amr, he said that Allah made above the seventh sky water and above it is the Throne..هللا اعلم it? Now how is that water there? How deep is that water? What kind of water is But what we learn from the Quran and from the Sunnah is that there was water that existed, even before the sky and the earth were brought into existence. م سن عال. ي مك deed... That He might test you as to which of you is best in هل يب ل ك م Meaning all of this, Allah did not just create in vain. No, Allah created this- heavens and the earth, and put us on this earth, provided us with our provision, determined for us certain time on the earth, why? Page 4

ي ي م سن عال us: Because He is testing ي مك هل يب ل ك م So what does this mean then? That no enjoyment, no comfort, no pleasure of this life is reward, and no pain, hardship, discomfort in this life is punishment. Everything that happens, ease or difficulty, pain, hardship, comfort, joy, whatever that a person experiences in this life, food that he eats or food that he is depriving his body of, all of this is what?.بالء It is a trial, it is a test. Where is it that real enjoyment lies then? It is in.جن ة And where is it that real torture and pain lies then? It is in Hell Fire. Right now, our deeds are being examined. So what we should be most concerned about is what? Our actions. Because the food, the provision that is determined for us, it will come to us, and yes, we strive to get it, but we should strive even more in order to perform good deeds because this is why we were sent in this world for. When we live in this life, and we work in this life, the food that we eat, the money that we make, the things that we collect, they stay behind. But the deeds that we have performed, these deeds, they go with us in our graves. هد ال م هت. ي ب ث ن ه م ول ت ه ان ي مك.But if you were to say, "Indeed, you are ه ئ ق ل resurrected after death", those who disbelieve will surely say, "This is not but obvious magic". 8: And if We hold back from them the punishment for a limited time, they will surely say, "What detains it?" Unquestionably, on the Day it comes to them, it will not be averted from them, and they will be enveloped by what they used to ridicule. Today what happens? Many people follow their desires. Why? Because of the freedom that they have. But what we learn in this آية is that very soon, this freedom will also come to an end. 9:... ول م ذق ن ه ئ س ن ه ا لن.And if We give man a taste of mercy from Us. him... And then We withdraw it from ث ungrateful...indeed, he is despairing and ه ان ي ه ل ه ن رم ة ه ع ن ن كف ر يئس Why is he despairing and ungrateful? When he suffers from hardship after ease, he thinks that this is the end of his life. He gives up hope. Why? Because he thought that ultimate joy was in worldly pleasures, and ultimate loss is about worldly loss. So people whose entire focus is this life, then what happens with them typically? That when they suffer from a hardship after some ease, they become extremely ungrateful, extremely despairing. 10: But if We give him a taste of favor after hardship has touched him, he will surely say, "Bad times have left me.". Meaning, now, I am fine. I am so lucky, I am so fortunate. Page 5

ي ي ي ي ص. Indeed, he is exultant and boastful. Meaning, at the loss of blessing, he is extremely sad and depressed, and on receiving something, he becomes extremely happy. What does this show? What his focus is in this life. We learnt earlier in يونس,سورة that there are many who live this life as: ي هة الدن ي رض ا ه بل They are happy and content with this worldly life. (7 سورة يونس) They don't look for anything beyond this world. So for such a person who is دنيا oriented, what happens? The loss of this life is absolute loss, and the gain of this life is the ultimate gain for him and who can do this? The one who has forgotten that this life is a,بالء this life is a test. And those who remember that this life is a test, Allah says: هت :11 ال هذني وا و ع ص ب ا ال هل هل deeds; those will have forgiveness and great reward.. Except for those who are patient and do righteous ها ل Meaning for every suffering, what is it that this person receives? Great reward. For every gain even, when he's grateful, what is it that he receives? Great reward. Why? Because he's being grateful at times of gain, and he's being patient at times of hardship. This person remembers that good is a test, a blessing is a test, and also that pain, hardship is a test, and real hardship is the hardship of Hell fire, and real.جن ة reward is that of The Prophet ﷺ said that: When Allah has decreed for a servant a rank which he has not attained by his action,. Meaning Allah has decided for a servant that he should reach a particular level near Him, and what happens? The person is not able to reach that by his good deeds. Then what happens?.allah afflicts him in his body or his property or his children. He's made to test, he's made to suffer, in his body, in his property, in his children..and then He enables him to endure that. So when he does,صبر why? So that Allah may bring him to the rank that Allah had previously decreed for him. Meaning, he could not have reached that level just by his good deeds so Allah puts him through hardship, and when he's patient, then he attains high levels in the sight of Allah. So what do we see? That hardships are merely an excuse in our lives. An excuse for what? To attain higher ranks; they're not for us to be depressed, to be sad, they are a chance for us to attain higher ranks. Page 6

ي ه م ي ي ي ي ي This is why a believer, the one who trusts in Allah, the one who's looking forward to,جن ة for him, for every calamity, for every gain, what does he say? ر هضيت بهلل ه ر ي ب I am pleased with Allah as my Lord. 12: Then would you possibly leave [out] some of what is revealed to you, or is your breast constrained by it because they say, "Why has there not been sent down to him a treasure or come with him an angel?" But you are only a warner. And Allah is Disposer of all things. The Prophet ﷺ is being comforted over here. 13: Or do they say, "He invented it"? Say, "Then bring ten surahs like it that have been invented and call upon [for assistance] whomever you can besides Allah, if you should be truthful. 14: And if they do not respond to you. ه نل ه هل ه هللا م ن then know that the Quran was revealed with the knowledge of Allah ف ع ل م ا and that there is no deity except Him. Then, would you not be Muslims? 15: ته هزن ي ة الدي ن ي و ه د ال ي اك ن م.Whoever desires the life of this world and its ا adornments. Meaning, he who only pursues the attractions of this world, the glitters of this world:. هفي م ع له ه therein... We fully repay them for their deeds ن هف ها لي Meaning in this world, they get what they strive for. In this life, they get what they strive for. هفي و ه deprived... And they therein will not be ل ب خس ن. Meaning, Allah will give them much. Allah will give them many blessings; a lot of money, a lot of reasons to be happy. Good health, good food, entertainment, joy, all of this. Allah will fill their lives with it. However: 16: ر هئك ال ه ف ال س له هذني لي هخ هة ها ل الن hereafter but the Fire. م ول. Those are the ones for whom there is not in the Page 7

ي Why? Because they never desired,جن ة and when they never desired,جن ة then what will happen? In the Hereafter, they will not get.جن ة Then where is it? What is the only other option left? Hell fire..and lost is what they did therein. Meaning whatever they did in this worldly life, it will be lost. Whatever they accumulated, whatever they collected in this,دنيا it will be lost. Because when a person dies, then what happens? No matter how much money he has collected, can he take it with him in the grave? And even if he does, can it benefit him in afterlife? No. On the Day of Judgment, if a person were to offer the earth s fill in gold to ransom himself from the Hell Fire, will it be accepted? Never! So:..Whatever they acquired, whatever they earned, whatever they produced و هبط صن ا هفي in the worldly life, it will be worthless!. هطل اك نا مل ن Why? Because it died in the world. do.. And worthless is what they used to و ب In a ديث we learn that لمي,ام she asked the Prophet ﷺ that Ya RasoolAllah, م نب غية,هش he was a man from the time of جاهلية (who died before the Prophet ﷺ received Prophethood) but this man was known for his generosity, he was known for his kindness towards people. So she said that this man used to join ties of kinship, he used to host and honor the guests, he used to free the slaves, he used to feed others and if he were alive today, he would have accepted Islam. So, the deeds that he performed, will they benefit him at all? The Prophet ﷺ said: No, for he gave it for دنيا and its name and praise, Meaning whenever he did something good, he did it so that his name would become famous or that he would leave a good impression on people or that people would become happy, those whom he was helping, they would become happy. So what happened? He got that; he never said even one day..he never said even one day, Oh my Lord, forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. So when he never expected reward in the Hereafter, will he be granted reward in the Hereafter? No. It doesn't matter whether a person says that he believes in Allah or that apparently he is doing something very beautiful, very righteous; if the intention is not there to please Allah, then it doesn't matter what is being performed. That deed will bring nothing. So what is necessary? That as we are performing our we must expect reward from Allah. Let's do it sincerely for His sake, not to leave a good,عبادة impression on others! Page 8

ي ي ي ص 17: So is one who [stands] upon a clear evidence from his Lord [like the aforementioned]? And a witness from Him follows it, and before it was the Scripture of Musa to lead and as mercy. Those [believers in the former revelations] believe in the Qur'an. But whoever disbelieves in it from the [various] factions - the Fire is his promised destination. So be not in doubt about it. Indeed, it is the truth from your Lord, but most of the people do not believe. 18: And who is more unjust than he who invents a lie about Allah?... What does it mean by inventing a lie about Allah? Saying that Allah has said something when Allah has not said it! Saying that something is in the Quran whereas it is nowhere in the Quran! Saying that Allah has declared something to be lawful whereas Allah has not declared it to be lawful! Changing the law of Allah! These are all forms of lying about Allah. Such a person, he is most unjust... Those will be presented before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, "These are the ones who lied against their Lord.".. And another form of lying against Allah is associating partners with Him, saying that He has a child or that He has a partner, when that is not the case. This is a lie about Allah...Unquestionably, the curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers. 19: Who averted [people] from the way of Allah and sought to make it [seem] deviant while they, concerning the Hereafter, were disbelievers. 20: Those were not causing failure [to Allah] on earth, nor did they have besides Allah any protectors. For them the punishment will be multiplied. They were not able to hear, nor did they see. 21: Those are the ones who will have lost themselves, and lost from them is what they used to invent. 22: Assuredly, it is they in the Hereafter who will be the greatest losers. 23: هفي هة ه هل ني ب ال م ول ص ر ه ي ه ب هئك م م خ بتا ها ل هت و ا ال هل هان ال هذني ن ا و ع.. خ هلد ون Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds and humbled themselves to their Lord. They're not just believing and performing righteous deeds, but they're doing it with humility for Allah, seeking Allah, trying to please Him. Realizing that they are needy of Allah. Realizing that no matter how much has been performed, it is not sufficient. Allah deserves more than that. And those who, when they do good, they do it with humility, not with pride. So such people: Page 9

ه.Those are the companions of paradise. They will abide eternally therein. Think about it. If someone were to serve you, but they do it very arrogantly, would you be grateful to them? No. And this is when we are in need of their service, still we will not be grateful to the person who serves us arrogantly. And this is when we are in need, we are needy, we are receiving. When we worship, we are not benefiting Allah. We're only benefitting ourselves. So when a person performs a good deed with arrogance, or he does it with hesitation, or with a grudge, with dislike, then Allah has no need of his good deed. Allah has no need of it and such a person for his effort also, he will not be awarded any reward. Why? Because he didn't do it with humility, because,عبادة worship is about humility! The definition of عبادة is والتذلل.الخضوع It is humility, submissiveness, showing yourself as small, as needy. So: ه ب ر ي بتا ها ل.عبادة Those who humble themselves before Allah, they will reap the fruit, they will reap the benefits of م خ و 24: The example of the two parties is like the blind and the deaf. Meaning those who believe and those who disbelieve; one is blind and deaf, and those who believe, they are:..seeing and hearing, are they equal in comparison?... Are they equal in comparison? Never!..Then will you not remember? Then how can a person who is guided and a person who is misguided be the same? How can they be equal? How can a person who believes be the same as the one who does not believe? And how can these two people have the same end in the hereafter after death? It's not possible. Both lived their lives differently and both will have very different ends in the hereafter. Page 10

ي PART-B HUD 25-49 هذ ي هبي :25 ي ه هه ه ها ن ن لمك ها ل ق ن قد ول م ر ل ن people, [saying], "Indeed, I am to you a clear warner. And We had certainly sent Nooh to his 26: That you do not worship except Allah. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a painful day." 27: So the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "We do not see you but as a man like ourselves, and we do not see you followed except by those who are the lowest of us [and] at first suggestion.. Meaning we see that the people who follow you, they are not that great. What do we see over here? Those who are refusing to believe in Nuh السالم,عليه you can sense pride and arrogance in their words. How they ridicule Nuh عليه السالم and how they are ridiculing those who believe in him.. And we do not see in you over us any merit;.. Meaning we don't see that you have any special status over us. What makes you special? Why should you be a prophet? Again, it shows the pride of these people. And we see that the مشركين of مكة also, those who rejected the Prophet,ﷺ they had the same problem. It wasn't that they didn't recognize the truth of هللاﷺ.رسول They recognized it really well but what prevented them was their pride. And even today, many who refuse the Prophet,ﷺ what is the reason? Oh fourteen hundred years ago, an Arab, an unlettered man, a person who could not read and write; how is it that we could believe in him as a prophet? So it's the pride that prevents people. And even today those who believe in That he ate with?سن ة Following his?ﷺ what is it that prevents us from following the Prophet,ﷺ his hand or he drank while sitting, or he drank while taking three sips; what is it that prevents people? It is pride! So we see that this pride is very dangerous. This pride is what destroys worship because when a person doesn't worship Allah with humility, then that عبادة is rejected. And when a person, his ego comes in, then he's not even able to accept the truth that Allah has sent.rather, we think you are liars." They accused Nuh عليه والسالم of lying. Page 11

ي ي ي ي ه 28: He said, "O my people have you considered: if I should be upon clear evidence from my Lord while He has given me mercy from Himself but it has been made unapparent to you. Meaning this is a mercy of Allah. It s just that you cannot see it.. Should we force it upon you while you are averse to it? ه :29 عل ي هه م ل مك هم ل م أ م ج ل هان ع هللا ه ي ها ل any wealth...and O my people, I ask not of you for it و ي ق All of the prophets, you will notice in the Quran, all of the prophets said this, that I do not expect from you any wealth in return. Why? Because: م ج ع هللا Allah...My reward is not but from هان ه ي ها ل Why? Because I am serving Him. I'm doing what I'm doing for His sake. I am working for Him. I am striving for Him. So you cannot even repay me. Only Allah can repay me. You know when the Prophet ﷺ migrated to مدينة and there was a piece of land that he wished to purchase in order to build the مسجد on that land. So when He asked the people about the price, the owners, they said no, we will only take its price from Allah. We will only take its price from Allah. Why? Because only Allah can truly repay us for what we do but the Prophet,ﷺ he insisted and he did not take that land for free. And what did he do? He paid them for that land. But what we see over here is the sincerity of those صابة that they wanted their reward from Allah alone and this is in footsteps of the prophets of Allah that when they do something, they expect reward only from Allah. So when we also do something for Allah, whether we are fasting, or we are praying in the night, or we are reciting the Quran, or we are giving charity, or we're helping somebody, we're feeding somebody, let us expect reward only from Allah. Because when we expect reward from Allah, only then can we continue to perform that good deed. If we begin expecting reward from people, their encouragement and their pat on the shoulder, then what will happen? The day they forget, then our deeds will also stop. And the fact is that the praise or the reward from people, it can never ever be equal to the effort that you're putting in. Don't you ever feel that the work that you do and the paycheck that you receive, they don't match? They don't match at all. Even for worldly work, they don't match. Then how about working for,جن ة working to please Allah, can anything in this world make up for that? Can anything in this world be equal to that? It can never be. So the prophets of Allah made it clear to the people that I'm not expecting any worldly benefit from you. My اجر is for Allah. But we see that when a person is sincerely working for Allah s cause and then he receives some worldly benefit; he doesn't set it as a condition that, if you don't give me I'm not doing anything. Like for example, if you don't give me this much money, I'm not going to teach you even a word of the Quran. Page 12

ي ي ي ه No, this should not be the way of those who are working for the sake of Allah. But if a person does receive some compensation, there's nothing wrong with that as long as his intention is mainly for whose.ازوجل sake? For the sake of Allah We learn that ( عمر بن الخطاب (رضي هللا عنه once he appointed ابن سعدي as a collector of,صدقة so he sent him for some work. And when this man basically did his work and he came back to Umar هللا عنه,رضي he had done his task, Umar رضي هللا عنه said to his worker that assign for him a pay. Meaning give him something because he has worked for the دين so give him something. So this man, سعدي,ابن he said: ه ي ع هللا ههلل ه و م ج ها ن ع هل ت I did this work for Allah and my reward is with Allah. So Umar رضي هللا عنه said that take what has been given to you for I also once did something during the time of the prophet.ﷺ And he assigned me the task of a collector and I said exactly as you have said. And the Prophet ﷺ said to me: When you are given anything without your asking for it than accept it. Eat it and give it in charity. Meaning when Allah gives you something, when it has come your way for doing some service for the then accept it. Use it, enjoy it and also give to others from it because the one who gives is better,دين than the one who receives. So when you will receive something for the sake of Allah because you worked for Allah, then you will be able to give also. So then you'll be able to do both the good deeds. Nuh عليه السالم said:. and I am not one to drive away those who have believed. Because the wealthy people in the society, they demanded the poor people who had believed, people who didn't have much social status who would sit with him; the rich demanded that these poor people be removed from his gatherings so that they could come and sit with Nuh عليه السالم and listen to him. They said that It doesn't befit us to sit with these poor people so send them away so we can come and listen to what you have to say. Nuh عليه السالم made it clear to them that no, there's no way I am going to drive these believers away. Why? Because:... Indeed, they will meet their Lord. You think that they have no status. Well their status is that one day they will meet the Lord of the worlds. You know if a person says, I've met the president, forget about meeting, I've seen the president, not on T.V but live! You know, actually seeing him. Seeing him! Not Meeting him, seeing him, that in itself is a great honor. Imagine meeting the president. That is also a huge honor. So for a believer, what is the greatest honor? That he will meet his Lord. Nuh عليه السالم says this is there worth they will meet their Lord. And when they will meet their Lord, then their true worth will be revealed.. But I see that you are a people who are behaving ignorantly. Page 13

So this bias against people of different social status, right? Someone is lesser, someone is greater and then treating people differently, having bias against them; this is something that is from ignorance. This is something that does not befit a person who is knowledgeable, especially knowledgeable of Allah. 30: And O my people, who would protect me from Allah if I drove them away? Then will you not be reminded? 31: And I do not tell you that I have the depositories [containing the provision] of Allah or that I know the unseen, nor do I tell you that I am an angel, nor do I say of those upon whom your eyes look down that Allah will never grant them any good. You don't see any good in them, but I see good in them. And I never claimed to have the knowledge of the unseen, I'm not here to pass judgment on people. I am here to just convey the message to you....allah is most knowing of what is within their souls. Indeed, I would then be among the wrong doers. 32: They said, "O Nuh, you have disputed us and been frequent in dispute with us.. Because when they were speechless, when they didn't have anything left to say, when they didn't know what other objection to raise against Nuh عليه السالم because he had refuted every objection of theirs, what happened? They said, well you're so argumentative. You have argued with us so much and we don't want to argue with you anymore. You've been threatening us if we don't believe, there'll be a punishment. So fine:.so bring us what you threaten us, if you should be of the truthful". 33: He said, "Allah will only bring it to you if He wills, and you will not cause [Him] failure. Meaning, it's not within my control. It's within Allah s control. So we see that Nuh عليه السالم has an answer over here also. 34: And my advice will not benefit you - although I wished to advise you - If Allah should intend to put you in error. He is your Lord, and to Him you will be returned." And this is true, that no matter how much a person wishes that another be guided, if that person himself does not want guidance, if he himself does not seek guidance, then Allah will not give it to him..or do they say [about Prophet], "He invented it"? Say, "If I have أ م ي ق ول ون افت ر اه 35: invented it, then upon me is [the consequence of] my crime; but I am innocent of what [crimes] you commit." Page 14

م Meaning, each person should be concerned about the sins that he is making. Let's stop pointing fingers at one another and think about what we're doing. ها ل ن :36 م و ه And it was revealed to Nuh that, "No one will believe from your people و except those who have already believed. Nine hundred fifty years have passed and only a few people had believed. So Nuh عليه السالم is told, now nobody from your people is going to believe....so do not be distressed by what they have been doing. Nuh عليه السالم was the first messenger, he was the first.رسول Meaning, he was the first messenger to be sent to a non-believing people because before him, people had been upon guidance. Children of Adam, they were all upon guidance. They were all on the right path. But over time, they started worshipping idols. So Allah سبانه و تعالى sent Nuh عليه السالم as the first messenger. And look at the long time that Nuh عليه السالم spent trying to call people to Allah; nine hundred and fifty years. Nine hundred fifty years! What does this show? That if people will not listen after nine hundred fifty years, then what does it mean? Then, fifty years is enough to show if they're going to believe or not, sixty years is enough to show if they're going to believe or not, a hundred years is enough to show if they're going to believe or not. This is why we see that if a person has lived for sixty years, then he has no argument before Allah on the Day of Judgment. No proof against Allah on the Day of Judgment that, O Allah! I didn t know, because sixty years is good enough time to realize what a person is, what his worth is, what this life is about. Recently I had to go to the hospital to see some people who are unwell. And I was looking in the Emerg (abbreviation of emergency). There are so many people with so many different conditions and this is something that should make you realize how fragile life is. And when life is so fragile, what are we, what are we doing here? Don't we need to think why we came, where we are going? Don't we need to think that there is someone who can take these problems away from us? I mean, these are questions that should come to a person when he lives through a decent amount of time on this earth. And if he doesn't, that means that he does not wish guidance. And if he does not wish guidance, he's not seeking it, then Allah is not going to force it down on him. The people of Nuh عليه السالم were given a chance of nine hundred and fifty years and they did not benefit. So: 37: And construct the ship under Our observation [eyes].. Allah said construct a ship under Our eyes meaning We will watch you; under Our eyes, we are looking at you make the ship.. and Our inspiration and do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are [to be] drowned." What do we see over here? Allah says: Allah has eyes. واص ن هع ال ف لك ه أ ع ي هنن..Build the ship under our eyes. Page 15

The Prophet ﷺ said: ي هان ت ر ي مك ل لي س ه أ ع م ر will دج ال he will be one eyed and he will say that I am God. He will claim to be Allah. When,دج ال come, the anti-christ, when he will come, and he will do things that we know only Allah can do. Like, for example; giving life to the dead. Allah will grant him this ability, this power so دج ال will do it. And he will claim to be Allah. And the Prophet ﷺ said: ي هان ت ر ي مك ل لي س ه أ ع م ر You should recognize دج ال when he comes. He is one eyed and. Allah has eyes!. واص ن و ل ت هع ال ف لك هطب ه أم ع ي هن ن و و ي ه ن ه ف ال هين هذني ظل م ا your Lord is not one eyed.. We will teach you how to build the ship...and do not address me concerning those who have wronged. Meaning, don't request that I should pardon them. They had a good enough chance. If they did not avail it, now they don't deserve any more chances...indeed they are to be drowned. 38: And he constructed the ship, and whenever an assembly of the eminent of his people passed by him, they ridiculed him.. They made fun of him.. He said, "If you ridicule us, then we will ridicule you just as you ridicule. Us today, meaning, very soon the tables will turn. 39: And you are going to know who will get a punishment that will disgrace him [on earth] and upon whom will descend an enduring punishment [in the Hereafter]." 40: [So it was], until when Our command came and the oven overflowed,. Page 16

ي ي ه ه Because the water started gushing forth from an oven and that is the sign that Nuh عليه السالم was given, that once water begins to overflow from there, then you must board the ship. So:.We said, "Load upon the ship of each [creature] two mates and your family, except those about whom the word has preceded,. Meaning from your family, everyone cannot board the ship. Who will board the ship? Only those who believe! And those who have disbelieved, they cannot board the ship, and who was that? It was the wife of Nuh عليه والسالم and his son. These two people from his family did not believe. Can you imagine the pain of Nuh عليه والسالم knowing that his wife is not a believer? Or that his son is not a believer? Imagine the pain. Imagine the pain, the grief; his son and his wife did not believe..and [include] whoever has believed.".. Meaning every other believer, he must board the ship..but none had believed with him, except a few. Nine hundred and fifty years, only eighty people believed. His efforts were sincere, his efforts were continuous. He strove for nine hundred and fifty years. He didn't give up. He did his best. But people were trapped in the فتنة of this world. They thought that this life is everything. And for them the worldly benefits were of utmost important. وق ل ار كب ا هفي بهس 41: هان ر ب ل غف ر ي ر هي ه هللا ه م ىه و ىه therein; in the name of Allah is its course and its anchorage.. And [Nuh] said, "Embark Meaning the ship will now sail and it will come to a stop, how? Whenever Allah wills!.indeed my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful. And we should also say this دعا when we ride a ship. ه ف ج اكل ب هل :42 mountains..and it sailed with them through waves like و ه ه ت ه ي ه به Can you imagine the amount of water that gushed out of the earth? And the amount of water that was falling down from the sky? Such that there wasn't just a flood, there were huge waves; waves like mountains. And these waves, you only see them in the middle of an ocean where there's a huge storm. Waves like mountains; huge. You know what this reminds me of? Our images of the tsunami, right? That how huge waves are just rolling forth, coming forth. Huge! Massive!.. و ه ه ت ه ي ه به. Page 17

The ship was sailing with these believers. Where? Between waves that were like mountains. Imagine the amount of water. And imagine the storm, the intensity of that storm. and Nuh called out to his son who was apart [from them].. The son of Nuh السالم,عليه he was not on the ship. He was still not on the ship. He didn't board on the ship. Nuh عليه السالم making the last attempt.. "O my son, come aboard with us and be not with the disbelievers." But the son said: 43: [But] he said, "I will take refuge on a mountain to protect me from the water.". It's OK. I can avoid this water. I can just go up on the mountain, I'll be fine. He still didn't trust his father. He still didn't believe in him. [Nuh] عليه السالم said, "There is no protector today from the decree of Allah, except for whom He gives mercy." And the waves came between them, and he was among the drowned. Nuh ( السالم s (عليه son, before his very eyes, was drowned. The son of the prophet, he is drowning. He is drowning with the disbelievers. Why? Because he himself did not believe. When the son of the Prophet did not believe, when he did not obey the prophet, he was not spared. He was not spared. This is why no one should ever think that since I am from such and such family, you know, for example, I'm a,سي د right? Or I am such and such from the descendants of the prophet,ﷺ or in my family there ف اظ were people who were great worshippers, who were great scholars, or in my family there are, there were people who were,شهداء I will be fine. No! Each person is individually accountable before Allah. We see that till this last moment Nuh عليه السالم is trying. He's trying to guide his son. And what does it show to us? That we should also not give up. That when we are trying to advice people, especially those who are closest to us, don't give up after a day or two. Keep trying until the last moment. You know, sometimes you go visit an old person. And you think, oh, if they haven't done good all their life, why would they do it now? No, it's quite possible, they take a lesson now and they begin to do it. Now perhaps they become serious about their faith. Now perhaps they will engage in their remembrance of Allah. You know there was this old lady and I sensed that her memory was very sharp. Very old lady. And I suggested to her, Why don't you memorize the translation of the Quran? I just suggested. And the.سورة الفاتة next day when I went to see her, she had actually memorized the word to word translation of She's not able to read. But just by listening, listening over and over and over again, she memorized it. And then eventually she said that it's heavy for her to memorize, but,المدهلل she listened to the entire of the Quran. You know, somebody might say an old person what good could there be left in تفسير them? If they didn't do it all their life, why would they do it now? No, as long as a person is living, as long as they're living, show compassion to them. Do something to help them. Page 18

م The Prophet ﷺ went to see that Jewish boy who used to work for him and that Jewish boy was dying. And the Prophet ﷺ told him believe, believe. And the boy looked at his father because he was afraid of his father, and his father said; هسه ب ال ق م Page 19 هطع Obey Abul Qasim. And so the boy said the.شهادة He said the,كلمة and the Prophet ﷺ came out and saying المدهلل that Allah saved a person through me from the fire. Allah saved him through me. What a great achievement! So sometimes it happens that we come across people who are literally at the end of their lives or maybe they have been told for such a long time but they haven't changed but still don't give up. Say something to them. It doesn't mean you keep lecturing them all the time so they put their fingers in the ears and they don't want to listen to you anymore. But keep advising them, keep saying things here and there. Don't give up. This is the lesson that we learned from Nuh السالم.عليه Don't give up so that we are not responsible before Allah. We can say that yes, we did our best to help Allah s creation. ء هك و ي س م ق ء هل ه ع و هغيض ال م ء :44 ه ع ي م ر ض ا ل هقيل. And it was said, "O earth, swallow و your water, and O sky, withhold [your rain]." And the water subsided, and the matter was accomplished, and the ship came to rest on the [mountain of] Judiyy. And it was said, "Away with the wrongdoing people.". And Nuh called to his Lord and said, "My Lord, indeed my son is of my و ن اد ى ن و ر ب ه 45: family; and indeed, Your promise is true; and You are the most just of judges!" Of all those who decide, your judgment is most fair. So he's making دعا to Allah that O Allah, my son died? My son was destroyed with the wrongdoing people? So in a way he's requesting for his son that O Allah, even though he has been destroyed, You pardon him. He's making دعا for his son. And you can see over here, how sensitive Nuh عليه السالم was, how caring he was, how much he wanted good for people, and this quality we see in all the prophets of Allah. Even at the Battle of,بدر when seventy of the مشركين were killed and their bodies had been abandoned by their people, right? Because the leaders. even, their ابو جهل they fled in order to save their lives and they abandoned the body of,مشركين So, the Muslims, they put away all the bodies, they basically buried them, they threw them in a well that was in that area in order to dispose of those bodies. And when they did that, the Prophet ﷺ went up to them and he said that I advised you but you did not like my advice. And you can see the regret in those words that I wish you had believed, I wish you had not reached this end, and this is something that we need to remember because unfortunately we have developed a very harsh attitude towards those who disbelieve or towards those who are not very religious that we have become very stern and harsh with them. We don't want guidance for them and we want to sentence everybody to Hell Fire. This is something that was not the character of the prophets of Allah. The prophets of Allah were the most sincere people. Even in, we learn about a man who called his people to believe in the prophets سورة ي س

of Allah, but they killed him and when he was killed, he was told, Enter, جن ة and he said I wish my people knew. So the صابة said about him that he was sincere to his people when he was alive and when he died. He wanted good for his people when he was alive, and also when he died. We need to see, do I have the same kind of sincerity for the people that I am amongst? Whether they are those who believe or they are those who don't believe? Do I want the best for them? Or do I want to damn everyone to the Fire of Hell? What do I want for the creation of Allah? Because remember that the love and concern that we show for Allah s creation, that is the kind of treatment that we will receive from Allah also. The Prophet ﷺ said: Show mercy and you will be treated with mercy. Forgive, and you too will be forgiven. So we need to develop this kind of ن ص (well wishing) for Allah s creation. And ultimately we see that prophets of Allah, they were men, they were people. You know Nuh السالم,عليه he was a loving man. He was a sensitive man. He was someone who was emotional. And we think that when a person becomes religious, then he needs to put away all of his emotions, his heart should become like a rock. He doesn't need to feel anything. No, they were not angels. Nor were they rocks. They were human beings, sensitive... family;.he said, "O Nuh, indeed he is not of your ق ال ي ا ن و 46: Your son that was destroyed, no, he was not of your family, even though the blood bond existed, now this blood bond has been terminated. It has been finished. He's no longer your blood, he is no longer related to you. Because on the Day of Judgment, we learn that:.when the trumpet will be blown. فال م ن س ب ي ن..Then there will be no relationship remaining between people. (Surah Mu minoon 101) And this is why a father will run from his son. A husband will run from his wife. People, the closest of friends will run from each other except for those who believe. Their relationships, of marriage, of friendship, of love, of brotherhood, they will endure, they will remain. So much so that in,جن ة if one person is in one level of,جن ة of Paradise, and another person from the same family is on another level, they will be joined together. They will be joined together. So we see that if we love our close ones, our family members, then we have to choose هداية for them also, we have to desire guidance for them also. We should want that they should also be worshippers of Allah, believers in Allah. We should want the best for their faith because we enjoy this company, these bonds, these relationships for a few years in this world. But then what will happen? Don't we want to enjoy these relationships forever and ever?.ايمان We want that. And that is only possible when both are upon So Nuh عليه السالم is told: Page 20

هن يه.. ه لي س ه م ي هلك م ه family.... Indeed he is not of your ه ان.. righteous,...indeed, he is [one whose] work was other than ه ان ي ه عل غي ص ه ل Meaning he didn't do good deeds. So ask Me not for that about which you have no knowledge. Meaning you don't know what his reality was, so don't request for him, don't make any dua for him.. Indeed I advise you lest you be among the ignorant". So the dua of the prophet is not accepted for his own son when that son died with disbelief. So how is it that the intercession of the prophets of Allah or of the angels could be accepted for those who associate partners with Allah? How is it possible for those who knowingly disobey their Lord? 47: م ي ذا ال هذي ي ش فع ي هعن ده ها ل ه ب هذ هه ي م ع ذ ه ك ه ها ن ر به ي Who can intercede near Allah except with his permission? (Surah Baqarah 255).. ق ل Nuh السالم,عليه immediately, he repented to his Lord [Nuh] said, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from asking that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have mercy upon me,. ي تغ losers.".i will be among the و ها ل هف ه ل و تم ه ن م كن م ال ه سه ني. So I need your forgiveness. I need your pardon immediately, Nuh عليه السالم is worried about himself. Think; this is the prophet of Allah who strove for nine hundred and fifty years and after that, when he makes a request that is not proper, what is he doing? Begging Allah for forgiveness. So what does it teach us? That no matter what good we have accomplished in our lives, no matter how much we have done in our lives, can we ever say that I am now perfect? No, Can we ever say that we are in no need of worshiping Allah anymore? No, Regardless of what we have done, we are forever Allah s servants and if we make a mistake, which we are prone to, when we do make a mistake; if Nuh عليه السالم made a mistake, then we can also make these mistakes, and when we do, then we need to beg Allah for forgiveness. 48: It was said, "O Nuh, disembark in security from Us and blessings upon you and upon nations [descending] from those with you. But other nations [of them] We will grant enjoyment; then there will touch them from Us a painful punishment." Page 21

ي Nuh عليه السالم is informed that soon people will again be divided into two groups. Right now, the only survivors are believers. Very soon, there will be people who believe, who will remain firm upon this guidance and there will be people who will go astray. 49: That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Prophet]. You did not know, neither you nor your people, before this. So be patient; indeed, the [best] outcome is for the م تي ي righteous. ال. ف ص هان ه ب هق بة هلل هق Nine hundred and fifty years Nuh عليه السالم did.صبر The Prophet ﷺ is being advised, you also be patient, and the same is for us; be patient. The ultimate outcome is for who? Those who fear Allah because this life is short. Any test, any trial that a person goes through in this life, it is temporary. Ultimately, if a person has feared Allah, then, in sha Allah he will be fine. Page 22
