Through decades of ecoomic booms ad dowturs, Ash Grove has cosistetly offered its customers a quality product. The year s results are ecouragig. Aual total costructio spedig i the Uited States icreased i 2012 for the first time sice 2005, postig a gai of more tha 7 percet compared to 2011 aual spedig. Led by firmig i the residetial markets, the costructio ecoomy bega to show further sigs of healig from the Great Recessio. As a result, U.S. cemet demad i 2012 icreased 9 percet to 76.6 millio metric tos. Demad was widely diverget across geographic regios with residetial costructio, oil ad agricultural productio leadig the recovery i Ash Grove s markets. For 2012, Ash Grove cemet shipmet volume icreased 5.1 percet over 2011 results. This icrease was led by a strog demad i the Texas ad Nebraska markets, offset by cotiued weakess i the Arkasas ad Louisiaa markets. O average across all of our markets durig 2012, Ash Grove cemet pricig remaied relatively flat with 2011 results. I total, Ash Grove s cemet plats operated efficietly while producig six millio short tos of cemet, ruig at a 68.2 percet productio capacity utilizatio rate, with costs icreasig 1.2 percet o a per to basis over 2011. I compariso, the U.S. cemet idustry capacity utilizatio was approximately 62 percet durig 2012. Ash Grove s subsidiary compaies showed improved fiacial performace i 2012. O a cosolidated basis Ash Grove s et earigs improved over our 2011 results, but remai far below ecessary sustaiable returs o our asset base due to the cotiued weakess of cemet pricig i may of our key markets. Ash Grove cotiued the process of brigig all its operatig cemet plats i compliace with the recetly fialized Natioal Emissio Stadards for Hazardous Airbore Pollutats for Portlad Cemet Maufacturig regulatios issued by the U.S. Evirometal Protectio Agecy. Capital spedig requiremets madated by this rule will total approximately $89 millio ad will be substatially completed by fall 2013. The compay started moderizig its Midlothia, Texas, cemet plat to comply with NESHAP regulatios as well as Natioal Ambiet Air Quality Stadards. This results i a 100 percet Ash Grove Aggregate owership of the aggregate productio facility which produced 996,000 tos i 2012 for the growig Johso Couty, Ka., costructio market. Ash Grove bega costructio o a ew cemet termial i Ridgelaw, Mot., located ear the Bakke Oil Shale formatio i North Dakota. This termial will serve the rapidly growig North Dakota markets from our Motaa City, Mot., plat with as much as 100,000 tos of cemet aually whe it is completed i fall 2013.
