Please wear RED to worship. Red is the color of the Holy Spirit. Four of our parish youth will also be Confirmed on this Sunday. If you grew up Lutheran you will know what Confirmation is about. If, like me, you grew up in another Christian tradition, you may scratch your head and wonder what it means to be Confirmed. The answer begins in Holy Baptism. Thursdays 1:00 3:00pm At Trinity Tuesdays 2:00 5:00pm & Wednesdays 9:00 11:00am Our journey with God officially begins in Holy Baptism. God claims us as His children in Holy Baptism. Jesus commanded His disciples to go out and baptize people in all nations. In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. We officially begin our faith journey with God when He claims us as His children in Holy Baptism. Then we educate and model for our children what it means to live as a Christian. We do this through coming to worship, praying, reading the Bible, going to Sunday School and putting our faith into practice helping others. Notice the order of events- God claims us in Holy Baptism and then we teach our children what it means to live as Christians. We do this by setting a good personal example and modeling for our children what it means to be a Christian. As our children grow up, they learn about the faith they were baptized into as they participate in Worship, Vacation Bible School, Sunday School and Confirmation. Then, as teenagers, we give them the opportunity to commit themselves to continue walking in the covenant God made with them in their baptism. This promise to continue living as God s baptized people is what Confirmation is about. This is a serious moment in the life of a Christian. On October 30 th we will pray for our four youth who will be making this important commitment in their lives. Therefore, please come to worship, pray for them and for the whole Christian Church as the Holy Spirit is stirred up in our lives and as it continues to guide us as the church, the Body of Christ, in this place. Sincerely yours in Christ, Pastor Christopher Culuris

Wanamingo Lutheran Church Council Meeting Minutes September 8, 2016 6:30 PM Present: Pastor Chris Culuris, Paul Rugg, Birdeen Thoreson, Therine Gudknecht, Teresa Gullickson, Ron Flotterud Pastor opened the meeting with a prayer. Pastor Chris read the Pastors report. Pastor Chris called Marty Haugen who kindly agreed to come down and perform a musical celebration for us and other area churches at Trinity to help us celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation! This celebration will be on Wednesday- October 4, 2017 at Trinity. This will be for everyone- confirmation students, members of all ages and folks from the community and surrounding churches. Over the next several months I will be coordinating with folks about providing food and what other activities we can do that evening as part of commemorating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. Pastor noted that Kenyon Police Chief Sjolander will speak at Holden about safety issues for churches. We will be looking at ways to be hospitable but also de-escalate and keep our congregations safe in possibly unpredictable and difficult situations. No Secretary minutes from the August meeting were available. Paul Rugg read the Treasure s report. Total income $ 7,609.00 Total expenses $ 5,907.02 For details, see the Treasure s report. Old Business: Discussed the bids to repair the chimney, furnace and replacement of the electric heat and carpet in the entry way, stairs and offices. Decided that Brad would need to explain more of the bid details. Action: Pastor Chris to coordinate a meeting of the council so Brad H. can go over bids with us. New Business: Discussion of the need for a checking account so the Sunday School teachers can buy supplies. Moved by Paul Rugg and seconded by Therine Gudknecht to close the present savings account for Sunday School expenses and open a checking account with Teresa Gullickson or Callie VanDeWalker as signatory on the account for Sunday School operating expenses. Motion unanimously passed. Motion made by Paul R. and seconded by Therine Gudknecht to transfer $200.00 from church account to open the Sunday School account. Motion passed. We are looking to schedule fellowship activities for our members that will also engage the public. These activities are meant to be enjoyable and hopefully will increase our church s public visibility. More information will be forthcoming. Meeting was closed with the Lord s Prayer. Submitted respectfully, Ron Flotterud

The Southeastern Minnesota Synod includes two campus ministries and one student congregation. The campus ministries are Crossroads Campus Ministry in Mankato and the Lutheran Campus Center in Winona. The student congregation is St. Olaf College Student Congregation in Northfield. We give thanks for these ministries among us and the many ways they accompany young adults. On October 23, 2016, all congregations are invited to celebrate Campus Ministry Sunday! As a synod, it is important that we come together to collectively honor and support the ways the Holy Spirit is at work on the college campuses within our synod. There are a variety of ways you can incorporate Campus Ministry Sunday into the life of your congregation on October 23. Rev. Corrine Haulotte (Winona) and Rev. Tammy Dahlvang (Mankato) have put together a variety of resources including prayers, Bible readings, and hymn recommendations. They are available on our synod website at http://semnsynod.org/campusministry. Our campus ministry connections in Mankato, Winona, and Northfield are places of welcome and acceptance for college students. Rev. Haulotte shares, The Spirit is at work here people are hearing on campus and in the community that we re a welcoming group, and they are starting to come and see! The people of the Southeastern Minnesota Synod have a wonderful opportunity to support the good work the Spirit is doing through campus ministries in our synod. Please make a commitment to uplift Campus Ministry Sunday on October 23! To learn more about the campus ministries and student congregation within our synod, visit their websites! Crossroads Campus Ministry Mankato Rev. Tammy Dahlvang Welcome to Crossroads! Lutheran Campus Center Winona Rev. Corrine Haulotte http://www.lccwinona.com/ St. Olaf College Student Congregation Rev. Matthew Marohl & Rev. Katie Fick College Ministy We invite all congregations to be sure to include the following petition in their prayers of intercession on Campus Ministry Sunday: God of grace and glory, you have created all people in your image and call us to love one another. We praise your name for your servants in Crossroads Campus Ministry, the Lutheran Campus Center, and the St. Olaf Student Congregation. We give thanks for all those who make known the good news of Christ Jesus on college campuses in our synod. Sustain these ministries with your grace so that they might continue to share your love in all they say and do. In your holy and precious name we pray, Amen.
