DECEMBER 2017 615 Runneburg Crosby TX 77532-2728 www.fbccrosby.net December 3 at 6:00 pm Hanging of the Greens Celebration December 17 at 9:00 am & 10:30 am FBC Worship Choir presents "Sing Gloria" December 24, regular morning schedule Christmas Eve candlelight services, 4:00 pm & 5:30 pm Church office will be closed for Christmas weekend: Friday, December 22 Monday, December 25; and on Monday, January 1, 2018 FBC supports the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Your giving enables missionaries to be sent to make disciples and multiply churches among unreached peoples and places for the glory of God. Who was Lottie Moon? China was not safe for foreigners or Christians, and Lottie Moon was both. She didn t let that stop her, being appointed as a missionary to China in 1873. She is the namesake of the offering that sends missionaries to the international field. According to the International Mission Board, as of 9/13/2017, the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering currently provides day-today support for 3,612 overseas missionaries. The average cost is roughly $58,200 to keep a missionary on the field for one year (includes salary, housing, transportation, children s education, retirement, medical expenses, training, and more). Prayerfully consider what your offering will be this year, and give generously. Our church goal is $28,000.

THE BUTLER SERVES How much are we giving to the offering for International Missions? That is the question Dianne asks me every year in December. The question is coming again this year, as always. She will write the check I just need to tell her how much! Here is how I go about arriving at a number: First, I PRAY. Now that is a fine place to start! I just ask God to guide me and He does and He will yet again. You know that you can trust God to give you direction when you need direction in any area of life. This is no different. Here are two scriptures that will help you: Proverbs 3:5-6 and James 1:5. I do rely on the subtle impressions of the Holy Spirit. Second, I THINK. Thinking is good too! The primary thing I think about is, How much will we spend on all the gifts we give to everyone that we give gifts to at Christmas time? That includes gifts to each other. This is an all-inclusive total. Christmas being Jesus Birthday, I want to be sure I put Him first. I also think about how God has blessed me this year, and how much I want Him to bless me in the coming year. I cannot out-give God but I have been blessed, without measure, by trying. Third, I TEST RUN. I sort of get zeroed in on a number, and then I continue to pray about that number, and I see if I am at peace with God as my sense of peace relates to that number. If I am not at peace with that number, I raise it! New Part time Staff Member At the recommendation of our Personnel Committee and Finance Committee we approved, on October 15 th, in our regular bimonthly business conference, the creation of a new part time staff position. This position is our Missions and Event Coordinator. This is a 20 hour per week position. Our Personnel Committee secured Michelle Holloway to fill this position. The position could only be created by action of our church, then it became the responsibility of the Personnel Committee to fill the position. That's how we do things at FBCC. Employing Michelle is a win-win for our church in two ways. First, she will do a bang-up job in responsibilities that she has already been doing to some degree on a volunteer basis. Second, because of some peculiar wrinkles in the way our church health insurance is structured, we can bring Michelle on board as staff and actually save money as a church. How? Michelle will become the primary insured for her family, and since she is 13 years younger than Brother Jeff, the overall insurance premium for their family will shrink to a little less than we will be paying Michelle. Confused? Don t sweat it, that is why you have a Personnel Committee! Selecting the Pastor Search Committee At my request, the Deacon Body is giving leadership to the launching of our Pastor Search Committee. This will take place January 7-21, 2018. You will have 15 days, including 3 Sundays, to make nominations. More information will be coming soon, but you should start praying now about who you might want to nominate. Here are some things to pray and think about: First, your nominees should be people who are very active in the overall life and ministry of our church. Members of Godly character, praying people, who serve Christ by serving others, faithful in giving, worship attendance, and Sunday School. Second, this committee will guide our church toward the most important single decision it will likely make in the next five years, and possibly the next ten, fifteen, or twenty years. A lot is at stake. Third, there will likely be more than a little Sunday travel, making for long days away from family and our church. In addition, a weekly meeting must be attended, and sometimes these meetings may be lengthy. Much time in prayer will need to be set aside. Specific committee assignments will need to be carried out in a timely fashion. Robin the Butler
