Time allowed 1 hour 30 minutes Instructions Use black ink or black ball-point pen. Write the information required on the front of your answer book. The Paper Reference is 40553. Answer four questions. Each question has five parts. Do all rough work in your answer book. Cross through any work that you do not want to be marked. Information The marks for questions are shown in brackets. The maximum mark for this paper is 76. Four of these marks are for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG). This will be assessed in parts 05, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30. The mark is shown below the mark allocation for each question. You will be awarded a mark for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) for each of the four questions that you attempt. The best of these marks will be included in your total for the paper. 2 Answer four questions. There are 18 marks for each question. Each question has five parts. Answer all five parts of each question chosen. There are four additional marks on the paper for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG). Question 1 Religious Attitudes to Matters of Life (Medical Ethics) Look at the photograph. It shows some strands of DNA. 0 1 Give two reasons why some religious believers agree with human genetic engineering. 0 2 Explain the difference between embryology and cloning. 0 3 It is wrong for religious believers to have a baby to be a saviour sibling. 0 4 Explain religious attitudes to artificial insemination by donor (AID). Refer to religious beliefs and teachings in your answer. 0 5 A child produced using artificial methods of reproduction is a gift from God.

3 Question 2 Religious Attitudes to the Elderly and Death Read the newspaper headline. Religious groups discuss whether euthanasia should be allowed. 0 6 Explain the difference between active euthanasia and passive euthanasia. 0 7 Religious teachings cannot support a right to die when you choose. 0 8 Explain briefly what is meant by ageism. 0 9 Explain why religious believers think that the elderly are important. Refer to religious beliefs and teachings in your answer. 1 0 Religious beliefs and practices cannot comfort those who are mourning. Turn over for the next question Turn over

4 Question 3 Religious Attitudes to Drug Abuse Look at the photograph. It shows warning signs of some legal and illegal drugs. 1 1 Give two ways that people who use illegal drugs might harm the lives of others. 1 2 Religious believers should keep a clear mind at all times. 1 3 Explain why drinking caffeine is legal but using cannabis is illegal. 1 4 Explain why some religious believers think that drug addicts should be helped rather than punished. Refer to religious beliefs and teachings in your answer. 1 5 People should only use drugs for medical purposes.

5 Question 4 Religious Attitudes to Crime and Punishment Look at the photograph. It shows a car which has been stolen and burnt out. 1 6 Explain the difference between a crime against property and a crime against the state. 1 7 Explain briefly the meaning of the term conscience. 1 8 Religious offences are always wrong. 1 9 Explain religious beliefs and teachings about retribution. 2 0 Religious believers should never break the law. 6 Question 5 Religious Attitudes to Rich and Poor in British Society Look at the photograph. 2 1 Describe what can be done to help a person who is poor. 2 2 Religious beliefs and teachings do nothing to help the poor. 2 3 Explain briefly what is meant by apathy. 2 4 Explain religious views about the wrong use of money. Refer to religious beliefs and teachings in your answer. 2 5 Nobody should be paid an excessive salary.

7 Question 6 Religious Attitudes to World Poverty Look at the photograph. It shows a selection of fair trade products. 2 6 Religious believers should buy fair trade products. 2 7 Give two ways in which war may cause poverty. 2 8 Explain the difference between sustainable development and emergency aid. 2 9 Describe the work of religious organisations that help the poor in developing countries. 3 0 Religious believers must help the poor in developing countries.
