About Truth for Eternilty s Sunday School Curriculum Purpose In 1995, Pastor Greg Nichols, an elder of Grace Immanuel Reformed Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, approached Pauline Trummel with a vision for developing a Reformed Baptist Sunday School curriculum. As can be seen, a general plan was developed in which a child, by the time he or she enters Junior High, would have received a solid study of the Bible, having gone through the Bible four times. Each time through the Bible would be adapted to the child s growing abilities as he or she grew older and would be covered in more depth. The four times through the Bible are s follows: (1) Two Year Olds one year (2) Three and Four Year Olds: non-readers two years (3) Five to Seven Year Olds: beginning readers three years (4) Eight to Eleven Year Olds: Third Sixth Grades four years With a good Bible background, the Junior High years are devoted to a catechetical study, thereby giving the young student a thorough doctrinal framework. The in the four High School years many topics are covered such as: doctrine 5 points of Calvinism through the study of the Canons of Dort, dating, career, Spiritual life, Church history, contemporary culture, etc. The first segment prepared was the four-year intensive Bible study: two years Old Testament and two years New Testament. The Old Testament was completed in 1997 by Pauline Trummel. Truth for Eternity purchased the material and at present Pauline and Pastor Nichols are producing the New Testament material. Both years of New Testament material (for ten and eleven year olds) are now complete Presupposition of the Material In determining to develop a curriculum, one of the things that the format was based on is the fact that those who teach in Sunday School should be able to teach and therefore do not need to have the lesson scripted for them. You will notice that an outline has been provided for each Bible lesson and applications that are suitable for children of the age group. This allows each individual teacher not to read or try to remember what the lesson book says, but relate to the students very personably and with full eye contact during the lesson time. That is why the page can be folded in half for easy reference without the bulk of a book. (Source: letter form Pauline Trummel ) Aim of the Material The aim is to create a solidly Reformed Baptist curriculum that would introduce children to the doctrines that Reformed Baptists hold dear (e.g. the Sabbath, the regulative principle, the doctrines of grace, etc.) at a level that they can understand. (Trummel letter) Benefits of the Material The lessons are grounded in the text of Scripture. The outlines make it easy to prepare for and teach. The graphics are excellent in the handouts (even though they are black and white). The lessons are reproducible and make this material economical due to its ability to be reused over the years.
