SJC 2013 Missions & OUTREACH Application Our Belief: The Great Commission is mission possible! Our Vision: A generation restoring hope by serving others with the heart, hands, feet, and mind of Christ. Our Mission: Helping Others Prepare for Eternity H.O.P.E. Our Goals: o To enact a church-wide model for missional-living demonstrating what it means to go-be-do in the world. o To educate, equip, and empower believers to holistically do the work of missions and outreach. o To export the Gospel locally and globally through our five strategic areas for enacting ministry: HOPE Center Soul Winners Action Team (SWAT) Faith Walkers Prison Team Deaf Ministry Team Local Missions Global Missions Our Biblical Basis Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT) Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Mark 16:15 (MSG) Then he said, Go into the world. Go everywhere and announce the Message of God s good news to one and all. 2 Corinthians 5:14-21 (MSG) Our firm decision is to work from this focused center: One man died for everyone. That puts everyone in the same boat. He included everyone in his death so that everyone could also be included in his life, a resurrection life, a far better life than people ever lived on their own. Because of this decision we don't evaluate people by what they have or how they look. We looked at the Messiah that way once and got it all wrong, as you know. We certainly don't look at him that way anymore. Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! Look at it! All this comes from the God who settled the relationship between us and him, and then called us to settle our relationships with each other. God put the world square with himself through the Messiah, giving the world a fresh start by offering forgiveness of sins. God has given us the task of telling everyone what he is doing. We're Christ's representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God's work of making things right between them. We're speaking for Christ himself now: Become friends with God; he's already a friend with you. How? you ask. In Christ. God put the wrong on him who never did anything wrong, so we could be put right with God. Our Firm Decision: Tell everyone what Jesus is doing! 2

SJC 2013 Missions & Outreach APPLICATION January 1, 2013 Dear Partner in Missions and Outreach, Biblically, we understand that God sent forth His Son into the world, consequently, Christ sends every Believer into the world (Jn. 13: 15, Jn. 20:21, Mk 16:15, Mt. 28:19 Acts 1:8). The idea of being sent forth is evident in local and global missions and outreach. We are being mobilized to benefit a specific people or group through both short and long-term assignments. God uses our collective (and diverse) resources, gifts, talents, and abilities to impact the world all to His glory! Our charge is to share the Gospel wherever we are sent. As a ministry, we partner locally with organizations striving to make a difference in our community by way of regularly planned service projects and volunteer pairing. Globally, we serve cities, communities, and the church in other nations by working through strategic initiatives. Our mission and outreach projects may focus on supporting educational, social, revitalization, construction, disaster recovery, agricultural, medical/dental, or any number of other needs benefiting children and other at-risk individuals. It is not uncommon for teams to participate in multiple service projects during a single mission or outreach opportunity. Whether meeting physical needs or building relationships we share the love of Christ. Our service opportunities may be carried out in urban or rural communities; often in cross-cultural contexts. We serve people who may be culturally, ethnically, racially, or economically diverse. Many of our local missions and outreach efforts are designed to be carried out on weekends or to coincide with seasonal breaks and holidays. Global missions and outreach efforts are calendared annually based upon strategic partnerships and projects. Decisions regarding the location, project, and sites are determined based upon where we can: Prayerfully and obediently practice our vision/mission. Build partnership, participation, and Christian character. Maximize human resources and demonstrate godly stewardship. The 2013 Missions and Outreach strategy encourages widespread mobilization! Our Missions & Outreach calendar is designed to assist you in pre-planning how and when you can go-be-do in the world. You may choose several single-day service projects, an extended mission opportunity, or any combination. We are now accepting applications and deposits for all mission trips. For additional information please contact the church office or Minister Elena Freeman at 972-264-1483 or elena@sjbcfamily.com. 3
