Bible Study Lessons for Pre-Schoolers Introduction This program of Sunday School lessons has been used with profit at Grace Baptist Church, Carlisle for over thirty years. Consisting of 129 lessons, it takes over two and one half years to teach all the Bible stories. There are 125 Bible stories from Creation through the life of Paul. Also included are lessons to teach at Christmas and Easter. The material is not divided into quarters but lessons are taught consecutively with the insertion of appropriate lessons for Christmas and Easter. At Grace Baptist Church the material is used for two pre-school classes broken down by age. A child enters the first class on the week of his / her second birthday and until the week of his/her fourth birthday at which time he/she enters the second class in which he/she stays until starting First Grade. Both classes run at the same pace so no material is overlooked. By such a method, a child would be exposed to two cycles of the Bible story material. Scope and Sequence Creation, The Patriarch and Joseph Moses Joshua, Judges Ruth Samuel, Saul, David Elijah and Elisha Jonah, Daniel and Esther John the Baptist, Life of Christ (Volume 1) Life of Christ (Volume 2) Life of Christ (Volume 3) Life of Christ (Volume 4) Peter and Philip Paul 2 of 13

Typical Schedule of Classroom Time: 15 minutes Prayer, Memory verses, Songs 20 minutes Review of previous lessons, Bible lesson visualized with flannel graph 10 minutes At tables individual catechizing while coloring, helpers discuss lesson and the picture (ideal ratio: one helper /3-4 children) 5 minutes Return to chairs, review lesson, Songs, dismiss to parents The Eshelmans have made a homemade video of a typical class which is available on request. A sample book of four lessons is also available. About the Material: The lessons are based upon the belief that little children can learn. They are designed to teach what the Bible says and convey facts and content. Applications for the children are also included. Review is stressed. The material comes either in print form or CD. If you prefer the print form it will cost approximately $250 (depending upon current printing costs). The print form includes Review Questions, Lesson, and Coloring Pictures in binders. The CD has the same material (at a reduced price) minus the coloring pictures. The print material or CD from which you can print is to give you a master from which you could reproduce as many copies as you need. The lessons are designed to be used with flannel graph. Jane recommends Betty Luken s, Through the Bible in Felt figures and backgrounds. See www.bettylukens.com. Flannel graph material must be purchased separately. The Eshelmans can be of help here as they can get the Luken s flannel graph material at a reduced rate. Also used in Grace Baptist Church s Pre-school program is a children s catechism, which can be obtained from Grace Baptist Church of Carlisle, PA. About the Author: Jane Eshelman has taught preschoolers at Grace Baptist Church, Carlisle, PA for 37 years. Converted in Dickinson College with a degree in English, Jane taught English to Seventh Graders for a year and then married and raised a family. To contact: Mrs. Jane Eshelman 737 W.
