JESUS VICTORY SPEECH 1 Peter 3:19-20c (1 Peter 3:19 don t read) WINNER TAKES ALL I WIN YOU LOOSE! Throughout history when great feats have been accomplished the victory gives a speech. It was even true of Jesus. Scripture gives us JUST A GLIMPS into the historical setting, the event, but no more. In the Bible we are given many events that help us understand that we live in a 4 dimensional world. There is a spiritual realm that is unseen. Scripture clearly states this. The movie and television industry have taken this to the extreme with things as seemingly innocent as the Harry Potter and Disney Movies, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER to the Poltergeist, TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL, TWILIGHT, Ghost Hunters, Ghost Whispers, and Medium. These are dealing with the spirit world. Are you aware that these are very much real, but not in the way the media is presenting them? The seance and channelers are not calling up the spirits of dear departed relatives, no matter how much people are paying them. NOTE: I did not say they were not calling up spirits, I said that they are not calling up spirits of DEAR DEPARTED RELATIVES. THE SPRITUAL REALM. THE SPIRITUAL REALM. 3 KIND OF ANGELS GOOD, BAD, and UGLY. GOOD O.T. appearances Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Balaam, Gideon, Elijah, N.T. Zachariah, the virgin Mary, Joseph, Peter, and they ministered to Jesus. Book of Revelation around the throne. BAD and REALLY UGLY - where did they come from? II. SATAN S REBELLION Ezekiel 28:12-17 (edited) 12 " king of Tyre,, 'Thus says the Lord GOD : "You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering:.. 14 "You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. 15 You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you. 17 "Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground... How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! 13 For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.' 15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit. 1. SATAN S RESUME 2 Thessalonians 2:3c-4; 9-10a the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God * in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. 9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception... Speaking of Satan, Jesus said John 8:44 44...He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. John 10:10 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. 2. SATAN S RECRUITS - 2 KINDS
JESUS VICTORY SPEECH 1 Peter 3:19-22 Page 4 of 10 Jude 6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 2 Peter 2:4 4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; Revelation 9:1-2 and Revelation 12:4 tell of the angels that fell with Satan. Remember in Isaiah we read about the DAY STAR S desire to be like God? Isaiah 14:12-15 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High. Here is Satan s desire: to be God. To do this he must, in some way prevent the Son of God from coming or compromise His mission He must contaminate the bloodline. Did the passage in Ezekiel not start off with Satan... in Eden, the garden of God. TIME TRAVEL WITH ME NOW FORWARD TO THE GARDEN. III. SATAN S REALIZATION. HE WANTS TO BE WORSHIPPED. He must have mankind turn against God. 1. Satan must contaminate man.
JESUS VICTORY SPEECH 1 Peter 3:19-22 Page 5 of 10 Genesis 3:1, 5, 14-15, 17 So the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God... 14 So the LORD God said to the serpent: "Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. 15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel. 17 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it': "Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. 2. Satan must contaminate the blood line. Genesis 6:1-2 Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. 4 There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. 5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 3. SATAN MUST CUT OFF THE BLOOD LINE.
JESUS VICTORY SPEECH 1 Peter 3:19-22 Page 6 of 10 2 Chronicles 22:10-23:1 Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs of the house of Judah. 11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons who were being murdered, and put him and his nurse in a bedroom... hid him from Athaliah so that she did not kill him. 12 And he was hidden with them in the house of God for six years, Nothing but the miraculous intervention of the divine providence could have saved the line of David at this time, and preserved the prophecy relative to the Messiah. The whole truth of that prophecy, and the salvation of the world, appeared to be now suspended on the brittle thread of the life of an infant of a year old. The elder brothers of Ahaziah had been carried away by the Arabs and put to death, and the rest of the closer bloodrelations of the male sex had been slain by Jehu 4. SATAN MUST COME UP WITH ANOTHER PLAN. A. SATAN S ATTACK AT JESUS MIRACELOUS COMING WISE MEN CAME LOOKING FOR JESUS Matthew 2:14 16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. SATAN S ATTACK DURING JESUS MINISTRY A long and relentless war was waged against Jesus by the Jewish leaders, whom He identified as belonging to the family of the devil John 8:44 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. Mark 8:32b-33 32...Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33 But when He had turned around and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, "Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men." Luke 22:31-32 31 And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren." 1. SATAN MUST CONTAMINATE MAN 2. SATAN MUST CANTAMINATE MAN S BLOOD LINE. 3. SATAN MUST CUT OFF THE BLOOD LINE. 4. SATAN MUST COME UP WITH ANOTHER PLAN

At the end of Jesus' ministry, Luke 22:3 "Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve", who then betrayed Christ into the hands of His murderers. Mark 15:11-13 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd, so that he should rather release Barabbas to them. 12 Pilate answered and said to them again, "What then do you want me to do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?" 13 So they cried out again, "Crucify Him!" 1 Corinthians 2:8 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.. IV. THE SAVIOR S REDEMPTION. THE RESURRECTION 1 Peter 3:19-20c by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared... The "spirits now in prison" in the abyss are those "who once were disobedient... in the days of Noah." They are the demons who cohabited with human women in Satan's failed attempt to corrupt the human race... (Genesis 6:1-4). 1 Peter 3:19-20
JESUS VICTORY SPEECH 1 Peter 3:19-22 Page 9 of 10 He went denotes going from one place to another (see also v. 22, where the word is used concerning the ascension)....and PREACHED to the spirits now in prison, it is indicating that He purposefully went to an actual place to make a VICTORY SPEECH to captive beings before He arose on the third day. and preached "heralded" His triumph. Not the Gospel - ("to evangelize"). Christ went to proclaim His victory to the enemy by announcing His triumph over sin I WIN, YOU LOOSE. Colossians 2:15 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. 2 Thessalonians 2:8 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 1. These are the disembodied spirits of men after death, awaiting the day of judgment. Sort of fits the context and vv. 18-22: death, preaching, resurrection, ascension. However, there is no need for the mention of Noah. If the men are those of Hoah s generation, there is no explanation as to why Christ confined his preaching to this one group of dead. 2. These are men who did not listen to Noah s preaching before the Flood. They are here being offered another chance to repent after death. Similar to 1 st view, except it specifies the dead generation as belonging to the generation of Noah. As objection as in # 1.
JESUS VICTORY SPEECH 1 Peter 3:19-22 Page 10 of 10 3. These are men of apostolic times who heard and refused the gospel as preached by Christ through the apostles. They are prisoners of sin. Though it does deal with times after the resurrection, it cannot explain the reference to Noah and the spirits cannot be placed in the apostolic era. 4. These are men of Noah s day to whom the preincarnate Christ through Noah preached. These rejected the preaching and now are in prison. Difficulty, it says that Christ did the preaching, not Noah and separates the preaching of Noah s time frm the imprisonment of Christ s time. 5. These are angelic beings, specifically fallen angels, who have been imprisoned until judgment. Christ s preaching to them following his death was a victory proclamation.
