CHRIST THE KING LUTHERAN CHURCH Dear Friends, Advent is here and Christ the King Lutheran Church starts this joyous season with Pastor Randy Sinn as our Interim pastor, beginning December 1 st. I encourage all of you to be in Church December 7 th to welcome Pastor Randy. Introduce yourself and make him feel welcome. The first Wednesday of December (3 rd ) is our first Advent service. At 6 pm there will be a light soup super followed at 7 pm by our first Advent service. Pastor Randy will lead this service. Sunday, December 14, Pastor Randy's second Sunday with us, is a Special Congregational Meeting to elect our Call Committee. I want to thank the Nominating Committee for all of their work to get a slate of 16 nominees. We will elect nine of them to form the Call Committee. I want to thank you, the fily of Christ the King Lutheran Church, for your willingness to serve on this very important committee. The level of participation is outstanding. This is only the beginning of our journey. The Outreach Committee is again selling coffee with the proceeds going to support additional outreaches. If you are interested, there is sign-up sheet on a decorated table in the narthex. Oh, I almost forgot, our monthly Potluck is December 14 th after the Congregational Meeting. Please stay and enjoy lunch with friends and fily. Take a look at the Baptismal Font. We can thank Dick Renken for his many hours of cleaning and polishing to give it a new look. CTK PRESCHOOL HOLIDAY EVENTS Our students are getting ready for our Holiday Progrs. The Mon-Wed- Fri Class will be performing the annual Christmas Play in the Sanctuary on Friday, Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m. and the Tues/Thurs Class will have a Christmas Sing-A- Long on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. Come join us as we prepare for Our Savior's Birth. Cookies and Refreshments will be available after our performances. Save the Date: Our Preschool Open House and Registration for the 2015-2016 school year will be Saturday, January 24th, 10a.m. to noon. Contact Cathy McLean, Director 503-740-1404 or call the church office. 2 P a g e ADVENT SOUP SUPPERS During Advent, each Wednesday evening service is preceded by a 6:00 pm Advent Soup Supper. This is a time for fellowship and sharing. You are invited to share your favorite soup recipe by volunteering to bring your specialty to an upcoming Advent Soup Supper. The three Wednesdays in Advent include December 3, 10 & 17. Each Soup Supper will be hosted by one of CTK s committees. If you don t have time to cook prior to coming to Supper; there are other opportunities to volunteer such as bringing bread or after dinner treats. We are looking for approximately 4 volunteers to bring soup and 3-4 to bring bread and sweets for each Advent Wednesday. If you would like contribute to the meal, please check the Kiosk for the signup sheet for the Wednesday that fits your schedule. If you need transportation to a service, there is a sign-up sheet for that on the kiosk as well. Thank you and we re looking forward to seeing you Wednesday evenings for 6:00 pm Advent Soup Supper followed by 7:00 pm service. If you would like to donate a poinsettia ($8), please pick up an envelope from the poster in the narthex, fill it out, and place it in the offering plate or return it to the church office. CHOIR CHRISTMAS PROGRAM On Sunday, December 21 st, at the 10:30 worship service the Choir will be presenting a Christmas Cantata. This would be a great time to invite your fily and friends to come with you to worship and celebrate the birth of our Lord. * * * * * * * * * * * THANK YOU We want to give special thanks to Betty Nesvold who is retiring from the Altar Guild after faithfully serving for about 15 years. She has been a blessing to the members of CTK by serving in this important ministry. FELLOWSHIP POTLUCK Everyone is welcome to come to the monthly Fellowship Potluck on Sunday, December 14 th following the worship service and special congregational meeting. If you can, bring a favorite dish to share. This is a great opportunity to get to know your church fily better. Hope to see you there! COMMEMORATIVE BRICKS In the back courtyard, there is a row of commemorative bricks. Several of the bricks have a bronze plaque with individual information of members. They are of births, baptisms, marriages, in memory of, anniversaries, former pastors and adoptions. Any significant event in members' lives have been remembered. You are invited to visit that area and view the various plaques. Orders are being placed for additional plaques. They may be purchased for $20. The order forms may be obtained from the office. Please see Marge Papke if you have any questions. * * * * * * * * * WORSHIP SUPPORT A new worship support schedule will be coming soon that will start January 2015. If you are not already on the schedule and would be willing to serve in worship, please contact Linda in the church office.
