THE MILK DOCTRINES: Laying on of Hands All scriptures are quoted from KJV unless otherwise indicated. By Mitch Kuhn The milk doctrines in Hebrews 6 form the foundation upon which our spiritual life is built. We need to learn the truths and then move on by building upon them with the stronger meat of the word. Heb 6:1 (ASV) Wherefore leaving the doctrine of the first principles of Christ, let us press on unto perfection; not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Heb 6:2 of the teaching of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. In this study we are going to discuss the common false teachings regarding laying on of hands, that God has caused us to learn through the churches of the world and also learn the truth of God s word on the matter. It is important to remember that we must always examine our own lives first before we start to judge those around us. The primary application of scripture is within our own lives. Mat 7:3 (MKJV) And why do you look on the splinter that is in your brother's eye, but do not consider the beam that is in your own eye? Mat 7:4 Or how will you say to your brother, Let me pull the splinter out of your eye; and, behold, a beam is in your own eye? Mat 7:5 Hypocrite! First cast the beam out of your own eye, and then you shall see clearly to cast the splinter out of your brother's eye. As we go through this study, you will hopefully be able to see that every scripture applies to YOU. It is common to read the scriptures and start thinking about how all of the evil ways apply to everyone around you and not yourself. Coming out of the false teaching of the church is the just the beginning; there is much evil to be overcome within each of us. When we are in this state of mind, we re just like David being confronted by Nathan about his sin with Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 12. Nathan tells a story and David condemns the man at fault, not realizing that it is a parable being told to him about himself. 2Sa 12:7 (ESV) Nathan said to David, "You are the man! We so readily see evil in others, but so slowly in ourselves. All of the scriptures about evil people doing evil things are parables being told to us, 1

then once we condemn them for their actions, God reveals to us, You are the man! Said in another way, we live by every word of God. Mat 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Deu 8:3 (ESV) that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. For more on this topic, read How Do We Live by Every Word of God. http://www.iswasandwillbe.com/live_by_every_word_of_god.php Keeping this inward focus in mind, let s search out the true meaning of the laying on of hands. Positive uses of hands in scripture: There are three primary positive ways that the laying on of hands is used in scripture healing, giving the Holy Spirit, and commissioning others for the work of God. Interestingly, none of these requires physically laying on of hands to be accomplished, revealing that it s not really about a physically laying on of hands. There is a deeper meaning hidden behind the letters. We ll start with healing. We have been taught that being healed is all about our physical bodies being restored to health. While it is true that Jesus and many of the Apostles did perform real miracles of physical healing, this is just God s way of revealing the true spiritual meaning to us. Rom 1:20 (ESV) For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. By looking at physical healing, we can see the meaning of spiritual healing. There is a proper way to go about studying the scriptures, so please refer to the articles and audios below. The principles contained in them will be applied to the current study. Rightfully Dividing the Word of Truth http://www.iswasandwillbe.com/understandingbible.php How to Try the Spirits http://www.aionios.com/mp3s/mike_trythespirits_p1.mp3 http://www.aionios.com/mp3s/mike_trythespirits_p2.mp3 2

Comparing Spiritual with Spiritual http://www.aionios.com/mp3s/5_mike_salis_p1.mp3 http://www.aionios.com/mp3s/5_mike_salis_p2.mp3 Examples of Healing in Scripture Mar 5:22 (ESV) Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet Mar 5:23 and implored him earnestly, saying, "My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live." Act 28:8 (MKJV) And it happened the father of Publius was lying down, suffering fevers and dysentery; to whom Paul entered in, and praying and laying on his hands, he healed him. Act 9:12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. We have just seen three different examples of healing in the verses above. We know that these physical healings really did happen, but what is really being said? Here is the answer when we compare spiritual with spiritual. What is life? Healing allows us to live life, so what is life? Joh 17:3 (MKJV) And this is life eternal (aionios), that they might know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. See Eternal Judgment for more information on the word aionios. http://aionios.com/2012-05/6th-milk-doctrine-eternal-judgment-part-1/ Joh 14 (ESV) Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Pro 4:20 (ESV) My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Pro 4:21 Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. Pro 4:22 For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. Joh 6:63 (ESV) It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 3

So when the scriptures talk about being healed so we can live, it s really saying that we are healed spiritually so we can come to know God through Jesus Christ and the word of God. 1Jn 5:11 (ESV) And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal (aionios) life, and this life is in his Son. 1Jn 5:12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. So how do we know that we know Christ and God? 1Jn 2:1 (ESV) My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous 1Jn 2:3 (ESV) And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. A healthy physical body functions properly and does what it was made to do. In the same way, being healthy spiritually is doing what God commands us to do. What is healing? Mar 2:17 (ESV) And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners." Luke 5:31 (ESV) Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. Luk 5:32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance." We are sick when we are sinners, breaking God s commandments, so turning away from evil and obeying God s commandments heals us. Pro 3:7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. Pro 3:8 It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. We are first sinners, who cannot see or hear God s words, and we need healing from Christ. Eze 12:2 (ESV) "Son of man, you dwell in the midst of a rebellious house, who have eyes to see, but see not, who have ears to hear, but hear not, for they are a rebellious house. 4

Mat 23:24 (ESV) You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel! Mat 23:25 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. You can see from these verses that people can have physical sight and be spiritually blind; this reveals the meaning behind the letters. Having sight and hearing has a deeper spiritual meaning. So why are we blind and deaf? Deu 29:4 (ESV) But to this day the LORD has not given you a heart to understand or eyes to see or ears to hear. Joh 12:40 (ASV) He hath blinded their eyes, and he hardened their heart; Lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, And should turn, And I should heal them. God made us this way. He hides the meaning of his words from us to keep us in rebellion until our appointed time of healing. Mat 13:9 (ESV) He who has ears, let him hear." Mat 13:10 Then the disciples came and said to him, "Why do you speak to them in parables?" Mat 13:11 And he answered them, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. Mat 13:13 (ESV) This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 2Co 4:3 (ASV) And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that perish: 2Co 4:4 in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn upon them. 2Th 2:11 (ESV) Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, Strong delusion is a key principal to understand as you are coming out of the lies and false doctrines that you have believed. Understanding that God is causing the delusion will help you not to be bitter towards those that perpetuate the lies. 5

For more information refer to the article Strong Delusion. http://www.iswasandwillbe.com/strongdelusion.php Why does God cause us to be blind and deaf? Joh 9:1 (MKJV) And passing by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. Joh 9:2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, Master, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind? Joh 9:3 Jesus answered, Neither has this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God might be revealed in him. Isa 43:7 (MKJV) everyone who is called by My name; for I have created him for My glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. Rom 8:20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Rom 8:21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. Said plainly, God has created all of humanity blind and deaf to spiritual truth, so that he can heal them and reveal his glory in the process. The value of something is only understood in contrast. God needs us to start off as sick and disobedient, so after being healed we will understand obedience and righteousness. Without this process, there would be no understanding or appreciation for what God truly is. When God brings someone out of delusion he heals them and gives them the spirit. Saul, before he became Paul the Apostle, was on his way to persecute Christians in Damascus. He had physical sight, but was spiritually blind. Christ appeared to him on the road to Damascus and struck him blind physically to reveal to him that he was spiritually blind. Act 9:17 (ESV) So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. The gift of the Holy Spirit is how we are given spiritual sight and understanding. Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 6

1Co 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. A paper to help you understand the relationship between God, Christ, and the Spirit of God is called Is God a Trinity? There is no Trinity as many have been taught. http://www.iswasandwillbe.com/trinity.php How is the Holy Spirit given? Act 8:17 (ESV) Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. Physically laying on hands is not required to receive the Holy Spirit. Act 10:44 (ASV) While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them that heard the word. Ultimately it is God who gives the Holy Spirit. 1Th 4:8 (NKJV) Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit. Joh 14:26 (ESV) But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. We simply speak the words and God sends His Spirit to those whom he wills. This is just like the healings in scripture, it is not man s physical hands that heal anyone spiritually, nor is a physical touch necessary. What heals them is the word of God spoken through his messengers. Pro 4:20 (ESV) My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Pro 4:21 Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. Pro 4:22 For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. 1Co 1:21 (MKJV) For since, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom did not know God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe. The Holy Spirit is how God teaches us spiritual things. 1Co 2:11-14 (MKJV) For who among men knows the things of a man except the spirit of man within him? So also no one knows the things of 7

God except the Spirit of God. 12 But we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit from God, so that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God. 13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. See the study Comparing Spiritual with Spiritual, referred to at the beginning of this study for more information. 1Jn 2:20 But ye have an anointing from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 1Jn 2:27 (ESV) But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie--just as it has taught you, abide in him. Receiving the spirit is foundational, because it is the means by which God teaches us spiritual things. We are to move beyond receiving the Spirit and learn through the Spirit, becoming more mature. The gift of the Spirit is only the beginning, just as having sight or hearing are the beginning of learning. Some churches are very focused on being filled with the Spirit, and will dance wildly, scream, roll around on the floor, etc. None of this promotes maturity and is a perversion of the gift of the Holy Spirit. Remember, all of these milk doctrines are a FOUNDATION, not the completion. Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Heb 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. Commissioning: The laying on of hands is also used to commission people to do the work of God. It is essentially an acknowledgment that God is working with a person. We know who to lay hands on, because they are proven by their good works. Act 6:3-7 (ESV) Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will 8

appoint to this duty. 4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word." 5 And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a Proselyte of Antioch. 6 These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them. 7 And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the Priests became obedient to the faith. Paul was proven before the disciples laid hands on him. Act 9:26-31 (ESV) And when he had come to Jerusalem, he attempted to join the disciples. And they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe that he was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles and declared to them how on the road he had seen the Lord, who spoke to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus. 28 So he went in and out among them at Jerusalem, preaching boldly in the name of the Lord. 29 And he spoke and disputed against the Hellenists. But they were seeking to kill him. 30 And when the brothers learned this, they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus. 31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied. The disciples laying hands on Paul was merely recognition of the good works God was already doing with Paul. After seeing his good fruit they sent him to the people they knew to bring encouragement and teaching. We do the same thing today; we recognize the people God is working with and associate ourselves with them when we see their good fruit. Old Testament Examples: Num 27:18 (MKJV) And the LORD said to Moses, Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand upon him. Num 27:19 And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation, and give him a charge in their sight. Num 27:20 And you shall put of your honor on him, so that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may be obedient. Before God gave Moses the command to lay his hands on Joshua he had been proven. Joshua served as Moses assistant, leading men into battle and faithfully spying out the promise land. 9

Exo 24:13 (NKJV) So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God. Exo 17:9 (ESV) So Moses said to Joshua, "Choose for us men, and go out and fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand." Exo 17:13 (ESV) And Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword. Num 13:16 (ESV) These were the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua. [See his faithful responses in Numbers 14]. Just as Paul had been commissioned by the disciples to strengthen the people, so also did Moses commission Joshua to lead the people of Israel. Their leadership had the same results. Joshua s results Num (ESV) 27:20 And you shall put of your honor on him, so that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may be obedient. Paul s results Act 9:31 (ESV) So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied. The principles we just read about in the stories above are summarized in one simple command in 1 st Timothy. 1Ti 5:22 (ESV) Lay hands suddenly (quickly, hastily) on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure. How do we know who to lay hands on? Luk 6:44 (ESV) Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thorn bushes, or grapes from briers. Mat 7:17 (MKJV) Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit. Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruits, nor can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 10

So what kind of fruit do we look for? Gal 5:22-23 (NIV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Paul s example in Acts 9 shows that he was faithful in the face of persecution, because he preached boldly and was obedient. There is also bad fruit that we can see as well. Gal 5:19 (MKJV) Now the works of the flesh are clearly revealed, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lustfulness, Gal 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, fightings, jealousies, angers, rivalries, divisions, heresies, Gal 5:21 envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revelings, and things like these; of which I tell you before, as I also said before, that they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Obviously these verses are talking about the very obvious sins of physical drunkenness, fornication, etc., but there is also a deeper spiritual application to all of these as well which can be discussed at another time. We do not give our blessing and rejoice when we see disobedience to the doctrine of Christ, either within ourselves or with others. 2Jn 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 2Jn 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 2Jn 1:11 For he that biddeth him God speed (G5463-rejoice) is partaker of his evil deeds. To bid someone God speed is to basically wish them well and rejoice in their evil. We are not to rejoice with evil, nor support it. Php 4:4 Rejoice (G5463) in the Lord always: and again I say, rejoice. (G5463) Evil is not always obvious at first. We can do our best to look at the fruit of our own life and the lives of others to determine if the tree is good, however sometimes it s not readily apparent that evil is present within a person. 11

1Ti 5:24 Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. 1Ti 5:25 Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid. Sometimes there are wolves in sheep s clothing, having an appearance of godliness for a season until their true heart is revealed. Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 1Co 11:19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. Joh 6:70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? Joh 6:71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve. Judas is within all of us, hidden until the appointed time. Lord willing we ll be judged and continue on in faithful obedience to Christ. There will be some among us who do not repent when exposed and will betray us just like Christ was betrayed. Here is what we are supposed to do when we recognize that there is evil within ourselves not bearing good fruit. Mat 7:19 (NKJV) Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. What is fire? Heb 12:29 for our God is a consuming fire. 1Co 3:15 (ESV) If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. Jer 5:14 (ESV) Therefore thus says the LORD, the God of hosts: "Because you have spoken this word, behold, I am making my words in your mouth a fire, and this people wood, and the fire shall consume them.
