Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This weekend we have 43 young people making their first communions. It is not a huge figure compared to the parishes around us, but each and every one of them is important. They are continuing a journey that started at baptism and through the sacraments of Penance and Eucharist they are being strengthened in their faith. Jesus has told us that unless we eat His flesh and drink is Blood, we cannot have life. As they receive the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time we encourage them to do so with reverence and faith. The pretty clothes and outfits are symbols of that reverence. This journey of faith continues throughout our lives and is only finally fulfilled when we finally rest with God. As part of that faith journey we are encouraging all of the young people of the parish to try to participate in at least one catholic event during the summer. Totus Tuus will be taking place in the parish and we are always looking for families to host and to feed the members of the team during the week. The Catholic youth leadership conference takes place during the summer along with catholic baseball, hockey and soccer camps. Please check them out. We are Catholics journeying together and as we congratulate our first communicants, we pray that they may grow in faith and become proud witnesses of the Risen Lord in our world. Let the Journey continue Fr Karl K of C Ladies Auxiliary All women of our parish are invited to our next meeting May 12 @ 7:30pm in the lower level of the church. Our mission is to serve as an outreach ministry to support women during the childbearing years from conception thru pregnancy, to birth and beyond, and thru all the joys and sorrows of motherhood. The Elizabeth Ministry will be teaming with Waterleaf in a special fundraiser called "Baby Bottles For Life." All the proceeds will go to the Elizabeth Ministry and Waterleaf, a nonprofit organization that provides practical help; pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, STD testing and treatment as well as continuing education and support for women in our community who would otherwise be at risk for choosing abortion. Please join us Mother's Day weekend to learn about the Elizabeth Ministry and to see how you can participate in this ministry as well as in "Baby Bottle's For Life." The Legion of Mary The Legion of Mary will be saying the rosary the first Saturday of every month @3:45.pm Blanket Ministry These blankets are either sewn, quilted, knitted, crocheted or fleece-tied by volunteers who pray while making the blanket. Once completed, a card is attached to the blanket and then blessed by Fr. Karl. The blessed blankets are presented to the recipient(s), letting them know that they remain in our thoughts and prayers even if they cannot be with us at Mass. We are now seeking volunteers to use their time, talent and material to help replenish our supply of blankets. Some material has recently been donated to the ministry for those who can sew or quilt. For those who knit or crochet, there are patterns available for prayer shawls. Thank you for considering this rewarding ministry and please feel free to email Bernice at blanketmin@gmail.com with any questions you may have.

Daybreak is a time for our Church family to donate of their time and service back to the community, specifically for those temporarily housed at the Catholic Charities Daybreak Cents in Joliet. Our Church helps by serving dinner on the 4th Friday of every month. The food we collect is chosen from a menu that consists of: Milk, Juice, Lasagna/ Mostaccioli, Salad & Bread and Dessert. Parishioners are encouraged to sign up to bring food or help with serving. A notebook can be found in the Narthex on Sign-up weekend; usually the 3rd weekend of the month. This is where we need the help of our Parishioners. Servers generally consist of 2 families (5-6 adults) and children as young as 5 have also helped with their family. Please prayerfully consider donating your time and/or food for use with our Daybreak Ministry. Thank you, Caryl Hayes, Coordinator.
