March 2018 Newsletter HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH INDIANAPOLIS Midweek Lenten Series Lent is a time for God s people to reflect with intention on the relationship we have with God and our need for salvation. Some people fast (go without food) during Lent to enhance our hunger for God. We provide worship in the middle of the week to give us some additional time to reflect together on our walk with God. Our theme will be Time in the Wilderness. Join us each Wednesday through March 21 at 6:30 p.m. February 28 A Time for Dependence March 7 A Time of Doubt March 14 A Time for Comfort March 21 A Time of New Beginnings Maundy Thursday, March 29, will be a Christian Passover Seder Meal. Worship Paul Groth, Worship Director Hymn of the Month O Love, How Deep, #544, is our HOM for March. Both the text and tune have been used for centuries, but this hymn has only been included in our Lutheran hymnal repertoire within the last several decades. This song encompasses all that our Savior did during His ministry and His path to the cross through His resurrection. We will use this hymn during the month at various times both in our Lenten mid-week services as well as our weekend worship services up to and including our Easter celebration. Holy Cross Orchestra Looking ahead to Easter on April 1, the Holy Cross Orchestra will be helping to enrich our worship that morning. Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, March 11, at 10:00 a.m. in Room 109 and will be held on Sunday, March 18, and also Sunday, March 25, at the same time and place. If you are a brass, string, percussion or woodwind instrumentalist and are willing to participate, please contact Paul Groth at pgroth@hclc.info, or attend the rehearsals beginning on Sunday, March 11. Passover Seder Meal Planning continues for the Seder Meal to be presented on Maundy Thursday, March 29, at 6:00 p.m. in the Gymnasium. This is a traditional representation of the Passover meal which Jesus and His disciples celebrated the evening before His crucifixion. It will include the actual symbolic parts of the Passover Meal, an evening meal, as well as the celebration of Holy Communion. This meal is traditionally celebrated as families but please know that EVERYONE is invited to attend this special experience. This RSVP event is being held in lieu of our traditional Maundy Thursday worship. Help is still needed in making this happen, particularly in the area of servers for the meal. Information for the RSVP process will appear in the service folders as well as the weekly update. Contact Paul Groth at Passover Seder at Holy Cross in 2009 pgroth@hclc.info if you are able to help or have any questions regarding this event. Continue to watch the weekly announcements, weekly updates and service folders for more information, or go to www.hclc.info/passover. Don t Just GO to Church; BE the Church Easter Baskets Are Here! You can have an impact on a local child this Easter! We will once again be handing out Easter Buckets for you to take home, fill with all things Fun and Easter that a family would be blessed to receive, and return it to the BE the Church corner in The Crossing. These buckets will be given to students at Trinity Lutheran School, as well as families served at The Sharing Place food pantry. Each bucket will have an Easter Story book included. (Note: Last year several families were excited to see a Children's Bible as one of the items in their bucket - but any and all items you put in the bucket will make it memorable) Thank you in advance for your generosity! Buckets should be returned by Sunday, March 18.
