REBELLION Satan is the father of rebellion. Rebellion was the reason for Satan being cast out of heaven. Rebellion was the reason that Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden. In Christ, God s children can live in obedience. Eze 28:13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so : thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 16By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. v.13 Satan was created with a glory covering. v.14 He was the anointed cherub. He occupied a place of prominence, possibly guarding the throne of God. v.15 Satan was absolutely perfect: He was moral serving God with integrity. v.17 Pride and rebellion was his undoing. God cast him to the ground. In verse 12 of this chapter God spoke to Ezekial and told him to prophesy to the king of Tyrus. He prophesied to the devil in the king. (Eze 12:13-19) The devil (Satan) showed himself within the king of Tyrus, as one full of wisdom having great beauty. But the king s personal charisma was corrupted by his personal pride. Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. All believers need to study the five I wills of Satan found in (Isa 14:13-14). Satan s judgment will be consummated in the lake of fire. (Rev 20:10) REBELLION 1

Rev 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Rev 20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. Why will God judge Satan so harshly and put him in the bottomless pit? For Satan was responsible for deceiving the nations. There will be thousands of names that will not be found written in the Lamb s book of life. (Rev 21:27) Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father' house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: God commanded Abram to leave the comforts of his present day lifestyle to apprehend the blessings of walking by faith. Abram obeyed, not knowing the certainty of his future. (Heb 11:8) Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. Abram continued in his pursuit of obeying God and looking to God to meet his every need. (Heb 11:10) (Gen 13:22-23) Heb 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Characteristics of the heroes of faith 1) They made a plain declaration. (Heb 11:14) 2) They never desired to go back or retrace their steps. (Heb 11:15) 3) They desired a better country, a heavenly place of worship. (Heb 11:16) Jos 24:2 And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods. 3And I took REBELLION 2

your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac. Note the phrase (V.3) from the other side of the flood This phrase simply means from the other side of the Euphrates river. And (V.2) They served other Gods. God wanted Abram to separate himself from those who did not serve Him. Jos 24:14 Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. The childen of Israel had to discard the tradition of serving numerous gods. Note the phrase Serve ye the Lord. 1 Sam 15:19 Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD? 20And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. 21But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal. 22And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 23For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. Let s look at some of the bolded verses. (v.19) swooped down upon the spoil like birds. They saw the natural material things as priorities, disregarding the voice of the Lord. Also, (v.22) obedience is better than sacrifice. Note the seriousness of rebellion. (v.23) Rebellion was considered as bad as witchcraft. The sin of witchcraft causes great bondage and hinders spiritual life. Witchcraft is divination. Divination is the act of calling on a different spirit. Rebellion results in similar bondage. Rebellion hinders spiritual life. If we are not obeying God then we are obeying a different spirit. God will judge rebellion in the same fashion as witchcraft. Believers who will not obey God cannot grow spiritually. Those who live for themselves cannot serve the Lord. Eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: REBELLION 3

Paul mentions the children of disobedience. They were God s children, but they were living in rebellion. Jesus shows us what we must do with people or with friends that may influence or distract us. The devil can use our friends to delay God s plans for or lives. God s will is always a singular will and purpose to be carried out by one man or woman. Jesus rebuked the devil who was working in the thinking of Peter. (Mat 16: 22) Mat 16:21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 22Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. 23But he turned, and said unto Peter, "Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. When we love (savour) (Mat 16:23) and respect the ways of God, we will walk as Jesus did in obedience to God. All believers must see the benefits of obedience. The end results are not always seen immediately, but God is faithful to His Word. Isa 48:17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. 18O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea: Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. Satan loves to engage himself in accusation. God s children are targeted day and night. Whilst we are obedient to Christ, we have no guilt or shame. The devil s words have no power to those who walk in obedience. Jer 32:38 And they shall be my people, and I will be their God: God wants agreement. We choose to be His disciples, God keeps His covenant to be our God. 1 Sam 12:20 And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD REBELLION 4

with all your heart; 21And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain. 22For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name' sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people. 23Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: 24 Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you. Even when we do wicked things, this doesn t mean we have to forsake the Lord. Vanity is a self-seeking activity it will not bring us to God. God will not forsake us. The fear of the Lord gives us the ability to serve Him with all of our hearts. Those who make a covenant with the Lord will be given the ability to fear the Lord in their hearts. (Jer 38:40) Jer 38:40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me. Deut 32:9 inheritance. For the LORD' portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his Jer 7:23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. 24But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. Disobedience to God causes believers to retreat backwards. The Christian terminology is backsliding. Backsliding is the result of rebellion. Note these two verses in (Eze 1:9,12) All angelic beings have a straight forward movement. Eze 1:9 Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward. Eze 1:12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went. Psa 78:40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! 41Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. REBELLION 5

Hos 7:2 And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face. Hos 7:8 Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned. Satan wants to hinder all believers from reaching there full potential. Let us consider the saying half-baked. Ephraim was a cake not turned. He removed himself from God s hand. The baker of Heaven had not finished His work. Ephraim was found in great wickedness amongst worldly people. His wickedness was an amusement even to the king. God was forced to discontinue His work within him. In essence he was less than half baked, he had not even made it to the oven. Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Note: 1) Christ learnt obedience even though he was a perfect man. 2) Eternal salvation is only given to the obedient. (Heb 5:9) REBELLION 6
