Sunday 9 th December 2012. The Greatest Delight - Al Malik, Al Maalik, Al Maliik Lecture by Sister Eman al Obaid www.alhudasisters.wordpress.com In our life we need to work on La illaaha illa Allah all the time. Nobody deserves the attachment, nobody deserves the magnification and the full love except Allah subhana wa ta'ala. What makes you attached to Allah subhana wa ta'ala with your heart? When you feel you love Allah subhana wa ta'ala more than anybody, when you love Allah subhana wa ta'ala the most and when you hope for everything from Allah subhana wa ta'ala and at the same time you are fearing Him. Love Hope Fear You need this triangle to attach to Allah subhana wa ta'ala. If one element is missing there will be an imbalance. If you love Allah subhana wa ta'ala and hope from Allah subhana wa ta'ala but you don t fear Allah subhana wa ta'ala you will make mistakes because you are not afraid from Allah subhana wa ta'ala. If you are afraid of Allah subhana wa ta'ala but you don t love Allah subhana wa ta'ala you will live and do everything always being afraid and that cannot be the relationship with Allah subhana wa ta'ala. These are the essential elements between a Slave of Allah and the Creator Love, hope and fear. From where can we get the love, fear and hope? We easily love the people infront of us, we easily hope from people and we very easily fear people. Why? Because they are infront of us. No one can see Allah subhana wa ta'ala but your heart should fear Him the most, hope from Him the most and love Him the most. How can I have this in my heart when I cannot see Allah subhana wa ta'ala? It is very difficult. In order to get the love, hope and fear in your heart learn about Allah subhana wa ta'ala through His Names and Attributes. All the Names and Attributes of Allah will put these three elements in your heart. Each and every Name of Allah SubhanaAllah will give you more love, they will give you more hope, and they will give you more fear. This is every Name of Allah. 1

With the name Al Malik Al Maalik we see Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the King of the kings, He Owns everything. Anything that Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave to you is OWNED by Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave it to you without you even asking. This will make you to love Allah subhana wa ta'ala and to hope from Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the Owner LOVE - Everything is in His Hands, so this will make you to love Him, and to hope from Him. HOPE - You hope from Allah subhana wa ta'ala because you know everything is in His Hands. FEAR - At the same time when you know Al Malik, that Allah subhana wa ta'ala, He is the King, He makes the rules, and you need to obey Him, this will make you to fear Allah subhana wa ta'ala. You can have the love, hope and fear when you know each and every Name of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. We mentioned with the name of Al Malik you have a True King. In life there are so many kings, so many owners, presidents, rulers etc. Allah subhana wa ta'ala says in the Qur an He is the King, the real and true King. He is the king in the dunya and on the Day of Judgement. In His hands is the Dominion, in His hands is the Kingdom. That is the real King. Your King, Allah subhana wa ta'ala has three elements of Kingship; - The real King is Perfect, - everyone else is His slave, they need Him - How Allah the King deals with the poor needy servant. You have someone who has authority and the people are needy, generally the person in authority will oppress them. This is the human being, they are imperfect. But Allah subhana wa ta'ala is Perfect, all His slaves are poor, needy and desperate and Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the Perfect King and the relationship with His slaves is perfect. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is so powerful and has full authority over all His creation, He is never unjust or unfair to His Creation. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is able to take their souls, Allah subhana wa ta'ala is able to do anything with them. But imagine your King is so Perfect, this will make you relaxed, your King is so perfect He will never oppress you. How does the King perfect His dealings with His servant? He has the full authority in; 2

1. THE DECREE Whatever Allah subhana wa ta'ala decrees, it will be the best. AlhamduliLlah Allah subhana wa ta'ala did not give you the authority to choose your own decree. You have a will to choose, but if Allah subhana wa ta'ala wills, it will happen. The rahma is that your King will not decree or will not ordain anything for you except that which is good for you, but you don t know. Even the sickness is good for you, if you are married it is good for you, if you are not married it is good for, if you only have boys, if you have a job or if you don t have a job it is all good for you. That will make you to submit and surrender to Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Don t resist the decree of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. This will solve all the problems in your life. Depression and anxiety exist in society because people are never satisfied and pleased with what Allah subhana wa ta'ala decreed for them. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will be more merciful to you than you are to yourself. You see how your mother loves and cares for you, Allah subhana wa ta'ala loves and cares for you even more than the most beloved people to you, even more than yourself. That is why, for you, you flee and submit to Allah subhana wa ta'ala and look at what Allah subhana wa ta'ala will give you, He will give you what you like also. We reject the things we don t like which causes more problems in our life. If any decree happens, just accept it, this is the shortcut. When we don t like the decree, we reject it, then we complain and complain, but it will not change anything, and at the end you will submit. Make it easier on yourself by accepting the decree and Allah subhana wa ta'ala will be pleased with you because you are pleased with Him. When you know all of this will your will be life easier, you don t need to spend money on pills etc. you don t need to feel sorry for yourself. SUBMISSION. All our problems are because we are not submitting. All our problems are because we are not submitting, always we are angry, always we are unhappy, always we are complaining so we are making the problems longer. In your heart you accept it, you submit and you don t know how many blessings Allah subhana wa ta'ala will bring to you. This is all a test. This is the decree. The King, whenever Allah subhana wa ta'ala decrees, He is the ruler and the King and He will decree the best, so don t be afraid. 3

2. THE LEGISLATION Allah subhana wa ta'ala is dealing with His creation by making the laws. You cannot say why did Allah subhana wa ta'ala ordain that we must pray 5 times a day and not 3 times a day. People argue about the legislation. Make it easy on yourself. Who are we to reject the King? Allah is the King, He is perfect and His rules and legislation are perfect. Whatever Allah subhana wa ta'ala says, even if I don t know the wisdom, this is suitable for each and every human being, suitable for different cultures, different colours, different backgrounds. The halal and haram in Islam suit everybody. Islam is a universal religion. All the rules suit the whole of humanity. Rules from one country cannot necessarily be applied in another country, or even applied in a neighbouring country. Man made laws in countries or even in your homes cannot be exchanged. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is making the laws of the whole Universe, Allah subhana wa ta'ala is Perfect and His laws are perfect. This will make you to submit; don t argue about Allah subhana wa ta'ala s laws, don t oppose or reject what Allah subhana wa ta'ala ordained. Some people reject, but in the end they surrender to Allah subhana wa ta'ala because they discover some scientifically proven benefit. But it is better to submit to your King than to submit to the thoughts and theories of people. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is dealing with His creation through - the decree - the laws This makes it so easy. If you don t like a particular law it doesn t mean that it is not good for you. With human beings, no matter how intelligent a person is, nobody is more knowledgeable than Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Allah Al Alim, the All Knower, the All Aware, He knows exactly what is suiting the human being. 3. THE RECOMPENSE Al Hakam al-jaza'iyya Jaza is the recompense. We have rules and laws in countries or in our homes. One who follows the rules is rewarded. For anyone not following the rules, there are penalties, fines, punishments etc. 4

When Allah subhana wa ta'ala says do and don t do, He is the King to decide what is the reward and what is the punishment. People following the laws, what do they deserve? People not following the laws, what is their punishment? Allah subhana wa ta'ala is in charge of making the reward and the punishment, the recompense. Does anybody have the right to judge people? No. I cannot say she is good and she will go to Paradise or he is bad and he will go to Hell. Our judgement is imperfect. We don t know exactly why someone did something or their reasons behind their actions, or what they have in their hearts. Sometimes someone will appear to you very righteous and doing good deeds but you don t know why they did these good deeds. Maybe they did the good deeds to show off, or because they are proud or maybe they have other reasons which are not for the Sake of Allah, maybe it is for the sake of themselves. When you know that Allah subhana wa ta'ala, He is the only One Judge. He is the only Judge Who can reward and Who can punish because Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the All Knower. Nobody has the right to judge. Maybe there are people who seem bad, but they have goodness in their hearts and Allah subhana wa ta'ala will reward them for what they have in their hearts, you don t know. Maybe it is the opposite, someone is doing a lot of good but their heart has many sicknesses of the heart. Never, never judge anyone because you don t know. One person is always worshipping Allah subhana wa ta'ala from the outside, it will appear to the people as if they are doing good deeds. Those people who witnessed his good deeds will come on the Day of Judgement and they will ask him what he did. He will tell the witnesses what he did, and then Allah subhana wa ta'ala will say to him You are a liar, you didn t spend for My sake. Everyone saw that this man was generous but Allah subhana wa ta'ala will say that he is a liar, why? Because Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows why he did what he did. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will say You only did this to be famous and have a rank in society. This person will be thrown into Hellfire. Another person will say I am teaching the people the Qur an for Your sake. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will say to him on the Day of Judgement You are a liar. From the outside you are teaching people the Qur an, you have memorised the Qur an, you are an alim, you are hafeez. But you did this so that the people will respect you and say that you are hafeez, that you are a scholar, that you are knowledgeable and righteous. This hadith will make you to feel to not judge people. May Allah subhana wa ta'ala purify our hearts. Allah, the Most Rich wants the deeds which are purely for Him. The deeds - the prayer, the fasts, reading the Qur an, learning and gaining knowledge are for the Sake of Allah. He doesn t want that you take a little for Him and a little for yourself or anybody else or for fame or for anything else. Another example is about someone who killed ninety nine people. Everyone considered him a criminal. In the end he killed a worshipper making it 100 people whom he had killed in total. He killed many people but in his heart he was truthful. Nobody in his time new that he was truthful. Prophet Muhammad ṣallallahu alayhi wa sallam narrated to us that this person, he was truly repenting to Allah subhana wa ta'ala which nobody else knew. He wanted to change 5

his ways so went to a scholar who advised him that the place where he was living was not good for him and to change the place where he lived, but on the way he died. This is a person who was never good in his life. People judged him as a criminal and that he will go to Hellfire. But because he was on the way of good, Allah subhana wa ta'ala forgave him all his sins, and Allah subhana wa ta'ala admitted him into Paradise. What you are thinking in your mind is not always as it is. In this you find that human beings have no right to judge anybody. I cannot say if someone will go to Paradise or that they will go to Hell. I don t know. Why? Because the recompense, the reward and the punishment will be according to the heart, everything is about the heart. Hadith: Prophet Muhammad ṣallallahu alayhi wa sallam said Everything is related to what you have in your heart. According to how pure your heart is, you will get the reward. Why is Allah subhana wa ta'ala the only Judge, the only One Who will reward and the only One Who will punish? Allah is the All Knower, He knows exactly what every person deserves. For example you are the boss of two people doing the same job. Their performance is the same but one has to struggle more, she went through a very difficult time but yet that both receive the same salary. You don t know what each of them went through to get where they are. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the real Judge and King. Two people doing the same deeds, Allah subhana wa ta'ala will reward one of them with more because of; the sincerity in their heart and Allah subhana wa ta'ala will see the obstacles they overcame. For example someone is religious, her environment is good and encouraging. Someone else may face many obstacles, people make fun of her but still she continues to do good deeds. Are they equal? The one struggling could easily quit. But only Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows her struggle. Allah subhana wa ta'ala s recompense is according to your heart, according to who you are, how you did it etc. The only judge is Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Why? Because Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows who deserves the reward and how much, and who deserves the punishment and how much. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the Ruler and He will make all the rules, and with the rules He will give the recompense. Don t judge people, leave the people, if you want to judge, judge yourself. You really need to believe Allah huwa Al Malik. Judging people is like ascribing yourself as a king with Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the only One Who can judge. The Names of Allah will reform the human being. You will behave, even with your words. If I judge it is like I am giving myself a position with Allah subhana wa ta'ala and that I know what the people have in their hearts. When you know the Names of Allah you will question yourself if you find yourself in such a situation judging people. When the questions come and you start judging people in you mind you need to know Allah Al Malik, He is the One Who will judge. Who am I to judge between the people? Someone maybe very cruel, zalim, oppressing people etc. he is healthy and wealthy and you think why is Allah subhana wa ta'ala not punishing him. Your thoughts are negating your belief in the name Al Malik. Even though he is wicked and bad you don t have the right to 6

decide how he will die. Or the opposite, someone is good and something bad happens to them, thoughts come to you. Giving people Paradise and Hell is not in our hands Allah subhana wa ta'ala is dealing with His creation with full justice; - in the decree - in the legislation - in the recompense When Allah subhana wa ta'ala is dealing with the people in this way you need to feel that; can you give an opinion you cannot reject can you give an opinion you cannot give an opinion Because Allah huwa Al Malik. Allah subhana wa ta'ala has the full authority to deal with His creation however He wills because it is not random, it is based on a wisdom and knowledge. Chapter (3) sūrat āl ʿim'rān (The Family of Imrān) 3:26 Say, "O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honour whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent. Say, "O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will In life, who made a person to be a ruler, a king or a president? Allah subhana wa ta'ala. You think people choose their leaders but it is Allah subhana wa ta'ala Who gives the dominion to whomever He wills. Allah subhana wa ta'ala choose your boss, whether they are good or bad, and they will be a test for you. There is wisdom behind why Allah subhana wa ta'ala choose that person and There is knowledge behind why Allah subhana wa ta'ala choose that person. What makes that person to be a ruler even if they are bad, is that they are good for the people. We reject, but whatever Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave us is the best. When we reject and have them replaced, they are replaced with someone even worse. Out test is to accept and to be patient. Why this mother for that child, why this president for that country. Don t always think you want to change your situation, you need to accept it. Allah subhana wa ta'ala He is Malik al Mulk, He is the King and He will give the kingdom according to His knowledge and wisdom. Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows the people will not be reformed and do good unless this person is their leader / boss. This is Allah subhana wa ta'ala s decision. and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. One day someone is a president, and the next day he is an ordinary man, Allah subhana wa ta'ala will lower him. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will give and Allah subhana wa ta'ala will take so never, never judge. Your opinion will not change anything, you are distracting yourself. Your focus is to worship Allah subhana wa ta'ala, to accept and to get more hasanat. If someone is bad, you need to accept this because Allah subhana wa ta'ala put them in this situation and their test is to be good. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. Again this is not random within a day someone will get the honour. Life is like a circle. The poor can be rich. The rich can be poor. There is a wisdom and it is out of Allah subhana wa ta'ala s knowledge. 7

The ups and downs in life are tests, are you accepting the tests? In the dunya nothing is perfect, in the akhirah everything is perfect. In Your hand is [all] good. Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows why He humbled someone and why He honoured someone else. Indeed, You are over all things competent. InshaAllah, to be continued. Ya Rabbi, increase me in guidance and keep me on the way of guidance until the last moment of my life. This is a transcript of a lecture given by Sister Eman al Obaid. We ask Allah subhana wa ta ala for His forgiveness and His Mercy. Anything that is good from these notes is from Allah subhana wa ta ala. Any mistakes & misrepresentations are my own. I ask Allah subhana wa ta ala for His forgiveness and to put forgiveness in the hearts of those who read them. JazakAllah Khairan. 8
