TAKING NOTE. From this session I take away: I will use my learning to: As An Effective Lay Person, I Will. NOTES: Eight Biblical Principles That Lay Leaders Should Study and Practice As They Serve God 1. Be a Servant Leader, as was Jesus Christ. (Matthew 20:27-28) 2. Serve and Worship God in all things. (I Peter 4:11) 3. Respect those in authority. (I Thessalonians 5:12-13) 4. Do not squander or squirrel away the abilities God has entrusted to you. Instead use them to His Glory. (I Peter 4:10) 5. When necessary, delegate. And once you have delegated, trust your assistants to get the job done; then, express appreciation. (Exodus 39:42-43) 6. Recognize your limitation, avoiding the natural tendency to try to do all the work alone, and the inclination to take on more than you can possibly handle. (Exodus 18:13-26) 7. Cultivate good character qualities, such as wisdom, understanding and respect. And then look for similar traits in those you would recommend for positions of leadership. (Deuteronomy 1:13-18) 8. Be prepared, under the power and direction of the Holy Spirit, to execute your duties, effectively and efficiently. (Matthew 24:45-47) When leaders are faithful, they gain the attention of God and show that they can be trusted. Leaders would do well to remember that there are three spiritual precepts God always honors: Faithfulness, Obedience and Submission to Authority. Page 1

Folks In Heaven I was shocked, confused, bewildered as I entered Heaven's door, not by the beauty of it all, not by the lights or decor, But it was the folks in Heaven who made me sputter and gasp-- the thieves, the liars, the sinners, the alcoholics, the trash. There stood the kid from seventh grade who swiped my lunch money twice. Next to him was my old neighbor who never said anything nice. Uncle Bill, who I always thought was rotting away in hell, was sitting pretty on cloud nine, looking incredibly well. I nudged Jesus, "What's the deal? I would love to hear Your take. How'd all these sinners get up here? God must've made a mistake. And why's everyone so quiet, so somber? Give me a clue." "Hush, child," said He. "They're all in shock. No one thought they'd see you." J. Taylor Ludwig Page 10 Page 7
