Thanks again for considering me for your event About Dr. Eric Michael Bryant serves with Gateway Church in Austin as the team leader for the Central Austin region, the South Austin campus, and as part of the teaching team. From 1998-2010, he served as part of the leadership team at Mosaic in Los Angeles, a church known for its creativity and diversity. Prior to his time in Los Angeles, Eric was part of a church planting team in Seattle. Eric coaches church planters and campus pastors, teaches on Post Christian Ministry, and leads a cohort for a Doctorate of Ministry in Missional Effectiveness through Bethel Seminary where he earned his Doctorate of Ministry in Entrepreneurial Leadership. More on these opportunities can be found here. Eric and his wife, Deborah, live with their kids Caleb and Trevi near downtown in Austin, TX. My Story Growing up in a Christian home, I chose to follow Jesus and got baptized when I was 10 years old. At 17 I really began following Jesus on a daily basis when I realized loving Him meant loving others and changing how I lived my life. At that time I felt called into pastoral ministry. I served as a youth pastor while I was studying at Baylor University. After marrying my wife Deborah in 1994, we moved from Texas to Seattle where we helped plant a church while I completed my Masters of Divinity at Golden Gate Seminary. We served as part of the team at Mosaic in Los Angeles for almost 13 years. In 2010 I completed my Doctorate of Ministry in Entrepreneurial Leadership through Bethel Seminary. Since 2011, I have been serving as part of Gateway Church in Austin. I serve as the Geography Pastor for Central and South Austin plus I am on the teaching team. My heart is to see people experience the life-transforming love of God - whether they have been skeptics or following Jesus for years or anywhere in between. What I Do I see myself as an advocate on behalf of those who do not yet believe. I want to help church leaders, pastors, and church planters become more effective in outreach and discipleship in our post-christian world and communicate with audiences who are young in their faith or spiritually curious. My personal mission statement is to catalyze community, communicate Christ, and cultivate change agents. I enjoy speaking (retreats, Sunday services, conferences and breakouts), consulting with leadership teams, coaching leaders one-on-one, and through writing. I have written articles for magazines and websites such as Church Leaders, Catalyst and Gateway Leaders. I wrote Not Like Me: A Field Guide for Influencing a Diverse World (formerly entitled Peppermint-Filled Piñatas) and co-wrote The Uprising Experience with Erwin McManus and Rick Yamamoto.
What does that look like? I often speak on the following topics: Being on Mission and Engaging Neighbors Becoming Who We Are Created To Be Raising Up Leaders (Discipleship and Empowering Others) The first two topics work well as either a stand-alone presentations or they can also be expanded into multi session messages that include Q&A or discussion. Here are some sample messages from those topics that work well as a main session at conferences, retreats, university chapel, or in weekend church services: Title: Main Idea (length of presentation): Not Like Me Learning to love, serve, and reach our post-christian and diverse world. (30 min message up to a 90 min breakout) "Come As You Are" Creating a culture where people can belong even before they believe. (30 min message up to a 90 min breakout) "... But Don't Stay That Way" Creating a community where life change is the norm. (30 min message up to a 90 min breakout) Trajectory Seven ways to make the future better than the past. (30-45 min) *The Becoming series below can be done as either a single 60 min talk or be broken out individually. Becoming who you were created to be and helping others do the same We are designed to be transformed and to transform others. (30 min) Becoming Receptive Learning to hear God's voice and discover your calling. (30 min) Becoming Tenacious Overcoming the trials that keep us from living out our calling. (30 min) Becoming Intentional Discovering how to overcome the temptations that derail us. (30 min) Becoming Proactive Making the sacrifices necessary to become who we are created to be. (30 min) The third general topic is focused on training, encouraging and challenging church leadership (staff and lay leaders) and are best utilized in a multi-session event that incorporates leadership training on a weekend followed by an introduction to the general idea for the entire congregation during the Sunday worship services with examples including: Title: Main Idea (length of presentation): Catalyzing Community Bringing people together to make a difference in our world. (30 min message up to a 90 min breakout) Loving Unlikeable People God's love for others extends far beyond where we would like. (30 min message up to a 90 min breakout) Creating a Better Future Becoming like the early church and overcoming immorality, heresy, and conflict. (30-45 min inspirational talk) If you see something you are interested in for your event, please email me so we can talk through the details based on your audience, desired outcome, requested length, etc. I can also provide training on Myers Briggs Temperament Indicator (understanding your personality), Gallup s Strengths Finder (understanding your uniqueness), or Erwin McManus Character Matrix (understanding areas for growth) as part of an outreach event or for a leadership team. Finally, I also perform stand up comedy for church leaders or as part of an outreach event. If time allows after I speak, I really enjoy interacting with people whether that is through a question and answer session, an informal discussion at the front of the room or in the hallway so if that is something you would like to consider please make sure to note that on the last page of the paperwork so I can plan accordingly.
