COURSE DESCRIPTION This course investigates the Mosaic Covenant in historical, theological, and exegetical perspectives. Grading Schedule. Each student must do all the reading and keep a notebook of notes and basic reflections. Class Participation: The reading notebooks will be brought to class to help the student engage in the discussion. Final Paper: The student will write an 8 page paper on the Mosaic Covenant. The student will choose a position and seek to support it exegetically, historically, and theologically. 4

Significant knowledge of the original meaning of Scripture. Also, the concepts for and skill to research further into the original meaning of Scripture and to apply Scripture to a variety of modern circumstances. (Includes appropriate use of original languages and hermeneutics; and integrates theological, historical, and cultural/global perspectives.) Significant knowledge of Reformed theology and practice, with emphasis on the Westminster Standards. Moderate Strong Mini-Justification Students will read significant texts, engage with them on their own, and then bring what they learn to class to discuss with other students in an articulate manner. Students will focus on the Mosaic Covenant s relationship to the rest of Scripture and its impact on both Old and New Testament. Students will read the breadth of Reformed thinking on covenant theology and the place 6

Students will be given tools to aid them in accurately exegeting Moderate and preaching Scripture in light of the Mosaic Covenant s import. Students will learn how their view of the Mosaic Covenant s continuity and discontinuity affects worship. Students will be more aware of the various views circulating in the pulpits and pews on the Mosaic Covenant. 7

Church/World Ability to interact within a denominational context, within the broader worldwide church, and with significant public issues. Moderate Students will see how various views on the continuity of the Mosaic Covenant impacts various denominations understanding of the church and the work of Christ. 8
