Machalski will be installed as the new Pastor of Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, March 10th at the 5pm Mass. The Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio.

FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Item One: Recently, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on the Liturgy issued a new liturgical book commonly called The Book of the Chair. It is a book used for the opening and closing prayers and solemn blessings by the priest at the chair. It is smaller and therefore less cumbersome for the altar servers to handle than previous books. We have recently purchased book for use in our parish. If anyone would like to offer it as a gift or in memory of a departed loved one please speak with Msgr. Tom. A small plaque will be place on the book. The cost of the book is $150.00 Item Two: The Paschal Candle that will be blessed at the Easter Vigil has been ordered. As you know, The Paschal Candle is lit at all liturgical services from the Easter Vigil until Pentecost and is also lit at all funerals and all Baptisms. Our Paschal Candle is quite large and wide. The motif on this year s Paschal Candle is the Sacred Heart of Jesus--especially appropriate since this is the Patron of our parish and our parish is celebrating the 140 th Anniversary of its founding in 2018. If anyone wishes to donate the Paschal Candle as a gift or in memory of a departed loved one the offering is $400.00. Please speak with Msgr. Tom if you are interested. Item Three: 2018 marks the 140 th Anniversary of the founding of Scared Heart of Jesus parish. I have requested that one of the Bishops join us on a Sunday in the Fall to offer a Mass of Thanksgiving as we thank God for His many blessings on our parish throughout these 140 years. The Parish Pastoral Council and I have also discussed preliminary plans to have a dinner-dance to celebrate this special occasion. Stay tuned for updates! Item Four: As has been announced for sometime, my Installation as Pastor will take place at the 5:00PM Mass on Saturday, March 10, with Bishop DiMarzio presiding. So far, he will be joined by Bishops Chappetto and Mroziweski from our Diocese and Bishop Francis Reiss, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Detroit. Many guest priests will join in concelebrating the Mass. My family, friends, former parishioners and out of town guests ( there are a few people coming from Detroit) will also be joining us for the Installation Mass. I hope that many of you will also be present to pray for me as I am officially installed as your Pastor. LAUDATE SI CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME America uses 500 Million straws per day. A straw is a piece of plastic that will end up in landfills or the ocean for many years and can injure and kill birds and sea life, including turtles. Is it worth it? We don t use straws in restaurants for wine and coffee glasses. This is just an unnecessary habit. Can we give them up? We can let restaurants know that they should not give them to people automatically unless they ask for them. Still not convinced? Using straws will encourage the breakdown of collagen in the face, thereby causing premature wrinkles. Google: 16 reasons you should give up straws. Let s include our children in this goal. Let it be the last straw.
